I genuinely didn’t see myself doing this today but I figured better get it out of the way now rather than mull it over for gods know how long. So here it is, the first chapter of my TTA AU fanfic. As the title somewhat suggests this is going to be a retelling of TTA with the benefit of hindsight in mind, a few additions on my end that I think will make the story better and just me having fun with a story I deeply love. Without further ado, please enjoy the first chapter. And yes I’m still working on Merged Destinies, it’s just taking a while.

I genuinely wonder if people realize how many projects get abandoned because the readership "wasn't there", when in reality, the readership just stayed silent. It's a big thing in trad pub that book series get discontinued because readers pirate the books or wait until the series is finished to buy a copy, leading the publisher to think that nobody actually wants the book enough to continue the series, but it happens with indie creators too.

I've discontinued a lot of free, online series because it's not worth putting 3-5 hours a week into posting a project for no readers. Sometimes I finish the series for me but just never post it again, other times I don't finish it at all because it feels more worthwhile to put my time into other things. Sometimes I hear from readers who are sad or upset that I didn't finish something they were liking, but the *reason* it never got finished is because I didn't know anyone liked it. If you like something, tell the creator, tell your friends, make some noise about it. If you would be sad if a story never finished, make that interest known because one of my biggest considerations before discontinuing a series is "will people miss this? Will I be letting people down" and 9/10 times, I come to the conclusion of "no, it doesn't even seem like anyone's reading this" only to learn after I've moved on that apparently someone was.

I've said this before in a different way, and this post said it so well. With real examples. If you like something, tell people.

If you want more content from an artist or author, if you like their stuff, tell them. It will give them creative fuel to keep going. And often it gives them other resources as well. Recommend a work to other people. Leave a comment or a review. It doesn't have to be long, just genuine, a sentence or two. Not many people know that a book's success is judged by book reviews as well as sales. Review the book on Amazon or another site to help it pass the metric of success and be recognized by publishers and retailers.

Potential TTA AU incoming???

dear god I have not posted art in FOREVER.

so for a while now I’ve been ruminating as one does about a slight rework of the original TvTome Adventures because while I love it, it does have some rough edges.

I’d work mostly on the actual game design, smooth out the lore a bit, rework a couple characters either because I felt like it, to reflect their irl counterparts or to suit the story a bit better.

in order to give you a little tease of what I might be working on, here’s a few quick character drawings and miniature bios. I won’t do everyone yet (because I haven’t finished Flamey’s).

Starting off with the four main characters.

Mike Lucien/Alpha. 16. Born in New York but moved to California sometime after 5th grade. His best friend Kris suggested they could keep in contact via a live subscription MMO RPG game called “TOME”. Mike lives with his mother after his father left and his sister went to join the army but went missing soon after. The Dog-tags, Jacket and camera he wears used to be hers

Kris Nelis/Kirbopher. 15. Born in New York. Best friends with Mike. After Mike moved away he introduced his friend to TOME in an effort to stay in contact. He’s not too well known but he’s a member of a very popular samurai themed guild in game and is long time friends with Gamecrazed.

Nathan Kessler/Gamecrazed. 17. An insomniac from Vancouver, Canada. Plays the game often at night due to his inability to sleep. Long time friends with Kirbopher after the two began fighting off Hackers.

and finally Colin Zabiel/Nailock. 16. Nailock is one of three rather legendary users that once defeated an extremely hard to beat raid boss. For it he gained a favor from the netkings though very few know what that is. As for his life outside the game.. I’ll keep that a secret until I actually start writing.

As for the setting. The story still takes place in the period of 2020-2022 which means that thanks to the benefit of hindsight I can actually include the pandemic into the story as a major plot point. There’s a few more very interesting changes coming and once I finish drawing Flamey I’ll do some more quick Bios. If all goes well, I might even start writing sometime this year. very much depends on how I’ll continue Merged Destinies.

I wanted animation to have a warm feeling of imperfection, so every detail on each character in every frame was colored by the “brush” instrument.
