like okay. fan literally doesn't know what he wants either. when committing to ii it's because he hasn't found "meaning" anywhere else and he is VERY clearly unsure of even ii. like i feel like him clinging to ii is like/similar to a candy june egbert hsbc situation. they were both literally made for the game and they were basically programmed to find purpose in it but it's all fake and they barely feel like actual people and they both still feel detached and frozen in time from everything else. both fan and test tube are hard steering into ii thinking the other one truly wants this and they just want to make each other happy but they don't realize that actually they're both just trying to mutually satisfy the other and both are too scared to prioritize themselves even if they can be extremely selfish in other ways.
they both also struggle to express their feelings a lot and they're both terrified of being "bad people." if they learned to actually communicate that better and be better at setting boundaries and try to move past their own desire for conformity to their coded standard they would be so much healthier.
ii is more so seen as the thing that "fixes" everything. the thing that fan can use as an escape so he can avoid trying to actually confront his own repressed emotions. and logically he knows he doesn't want it to be like this (and that's the excuse/reasoning he uses to go through with it) but it is literally just mephone4 all over again. for tt it's the potential way to get her friends back and lift the need to grieve and the guilt she pins on herself even if realistically it was never her fault (particularly with mepad). they both want good days but literally don't think there's a future for either of them. almost like. the future they assume they can only realistically hope for. is yesterday. basically they just want to die
DAMMIT i forgot to make my bfdi x ii tour recommendations/expectations because i know i had no clue what to do last year. here’s it anyways for the people going to the rest of the tours
- if you want to get a good seat, you should arrive at least an hour early. the line gets long QUICK and they usually sign in early (check for emails about when the door opens vs. when the screenings start!)
- the seats didn’t fill up instantly but it can get Packed the closer it is to the start time
- if you live in a hot area— Bring Sun Protection. from where i was at there Was a shaded area but since the long was so long a lot of people were left in the sun 😭
- from where i was at, the tour exclusive items were Always in the lobby. get in line if you want any items asap just so you dont walk into a packed theater!
- BRING HEADPHONES OR EARBUDS. ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY PEOPLE ARE LOUD. BRING EAR PROTECTION.
- from when i went to the tour— clear bags are the ONLY bags allowed in the theater. they also usually have size requirements so look at the rules of the theater you’re going to so you’re not stopped by security
- from what i recall— food and drink is not allowed! i would still bring some just to snack on in line and then throw them out as you get inside the lobby
- a lot of things vary by theater— be sure to check their regulations to see if there’s anything different! (i.e. maybe some theaters allow certain drinks)
- the preshow often has a series of songs from each show that you can sing along to!
- once the show actually starts, some crew members will come on stage and either a video will play or a crew member will explain the etiquette of the theater.
- speaking of etiquette… screaming & cheering is actually encouraged! however, try to keep it at an appropriate volume (like. don’t be louder than the episodes themselves)
- don’t ask a question about whether or not a ship will be canon. just don’t. ignoring the fact that they’ll reveal it in due time— it’s 100% been asked before LOL
- speaking of frequently asked questions— i’d HIGHLY recommend looking at the previous QnAs the II updates account has posted to see if your question is a repeat (if someone has the same for BFDI PLEASE let me know)
if anyone has any suggestions for anything that should be added feel free to comment or reblog 🕺
i think we should start openly mocking male creatives who can't figure out how to write women. like actually i think it's embarrassing that it took elliot page transitioning for christopher nolan to give him a good role. why did it take like ten years to get the first female lead in a marvel movie? why is it a Known Fact that stephen king can't write women? why is 50% of the population omitted from large ensemble works? i asked my friend to name a movie directed by a man with a majority female cast and he said ghostbusters 2016. ghostbusters. ghostbusters. g
Elliot Page also starred in Inception before transitioning, and from what I’ve heard is in The Odyssey for less than five minutes, so that’s a really weird example to use. Like, I don’t disagree with the overall point, but why is that the first example? Kind of feels more like criticizing Nolan for hiring a trans actor than actually being about men not able to write women.
Elliot Page is such a good example of how when trans men transition people automatically read privilege into their experiences—them specfically, in a way that singles them out among the sea of cis men they are surrounded with living their lives uncontroversially—when all evidence suggests they are actually experiencing the exact opposite of that. Elliot Page has gotten nothing but hate and scrutinity from the general public and the media and his career has taken some serious damage since coming out.
the very first thing that happens in the movie is Elliot Page's character dies. I understand the confusion, but typically when a minority dies in the first 5 minutes of a movie we consider this to be a Weird Choice and scrutinize people for making it.

letting myself have a fandom moment here, please forgive me. like. when I'm interested in a fictional relationship, I'm interested in the dynamic between them and interested in how a romantic aspect could change or REVEAL further aspects of their dynamic. the want for that relationship to be romantic comes from a place of engaging w the plot of the story and the personalities of the character. it has never come from a place of "I want these characters in a healthy monogamous relationship with one another where they get married and have kids together" like ur all out of ur mind for this
they complement eachother so perfectly, even if their mindsets and thoughts don't align i feel like the other doesn't mind. i miss lightbrush so most of my impressions of them rn are fed from what i wanna see LOL bring them back...
i think theyre a beautiful example of how two people dont have to be super similar to love each other and be compatible. paintbrush really didnt understand (or, as some may argue, hardly even liked) lightbulb very much pre ii12, but eventually they realised the person lightbulb truely was and she influenced them in positive ways. i think they really ground one another
