Look, I agree that perhaps the Witch-king should have been less assured of his own invincibility in a world where elves, dwarves, hobbits, wizards, the undead, and women are all real things, but I think he would have still been screwed even if Glorfindel's prophecy had been less exact in its wording. Consider the following scenario, for instance.
Witch-king: "Hinder me? Thou fool! Nobody may hinder me!" Odysseus of Ithaca, very lost:

Does anybody ever hate a character not because there's anything wrong with them, but because it feel like they represent something the creator is trying to do? For e.g I was never quite able to warm up to Zoe from Miraculous Ladybug when I still watched, because of how transparently she was meant to be the "better chloe", a character I was actually invested in before they butchered her

honestly not uncommon thoughts on Zoé Lee. Between her being written in as the Good version and (half-sister) of one character, and her getting more screen time/larger roles than more other more established characters I feel like a large proportion of the reaction to the character is based on her structural position in the show versus the character herself (see the very popular post, "I like Zoé but why is she here.")
"character deserved better" (but they were never going to get it that's the stuff great tragedies are made of) vs "character deserved better" (but the writers really blew it)
love an online trad influencer who is like "men don't care about your career or degrees! They don't care about you as a person! they only want a caricature of a wife so make sure that's what your pursuing!" all while actively running a business and attending higher education
watching a fictional character stop being the same age as you is fucked up
whenever I confess to people that i feel like I am just roleplaying as a normal person they're always like noooo you don't strike me as someone who's roleplaying as a normal person at all!!! :) and every time internally im like well yes that's because I am excellent at it

tumblr user Anonymous has been saying some very rude things to various bloggers for many years now
there's something just amazing about john gaius being all "i saved the world, but not for me", blatantly riffing off of lord of the rings, which no one will ever call him on, bc he's the only person who remembers lord of the rings. to make matters worse better more, he's not even quoting the book. he's quoting the movie. so lame, you think, and then you remember where the movies were filmed and about the hobbit tax and the maōri stuntpeople who only ever got to play "evil ugly" orcs and easterlings and all of that and oh boy it's all connected here isn't it
but it also is unambiguously hilarious of him to compare himself to frodo. it's like if frodo set out to destroy sauron but orcs kept trying to arrest the fellowship and call him a charlatan on the middle earth news or whatever and also halfway through he gets hit up by gondor and they tell him that denethor just died and they need him to use the ring to reanimate his corpse and he just does it. and in the end frodo loses it and destroys all of middle earth except sauron who runs away on a spaceship
wait hold up i'm back. i was going to be all "how dare you stand where he stood" but then i remembered what actually happened, famously, to frodo: he failed at the last step. he claimed the ring. (he just was lucky gollum happened to be there and disaster was averted.) he tried very hard, but in the end, he just couldn't do what he'd set out to do. sure yeah i can maybe see how jod would relate to that
Unfortunately instead of Gollum he has the world, which you think would be good but actually it's just a huge enabler

but ykw at least i'm not on mount everest. at least i'm not paying tens of thousands of dollars to slowly suffocate in a 300-person line at the gates of hell. never in my life will i have to be steered in a hypoxic stupor through the maze of poop and corpses atop mount everest. on this earth a lot of horrible things can happen to you without your permission but there are a few that you have to opt into. you can just say no thanks! and be guaranteed never to have to be on mount everest. much to be grateful for actually

it's so wild to me that you absolutely cannot force a hyperfixation to happen. like you'll watch the most perfectly tailor-made-for-you content that everyone says you'll love and feel absolutely nothing, and then the thing you watch on a whim to fill time will reach through the screen and put its damn fingers in your brain and start rearranging the neurons right in front of you and every single time you're like THIS??? THIS??????? and this happens like every 6-12 months forever
