a lot of you bitches don’t understand that i’m coming wait for me. i hear the walls repeating. the falling of our feet and it sounds like drumming. and we are not alone. i hear the rocks and stones echoing our song. i’m coming
reblog w the song lyrics in your head NOW. either stuck in yr head or what yr listening to
The new Odyssey adaptation has inevitably gotten people talking about a Muppet version of it, and they’re frequently suggesting Kermit as Odysseus, Miss Piggy as Penelope.
I’m sorry but that’s thinking way too small, hear me out:
We need to have Miss Piggy as Odysseus, and Kermit as Penelope.
Think about it… who’s the more fickle, prideful, warlike one in that relationship? Who is absolutely ready to go ham, at a moment’s notice?
It ain’t Kermit
Miss Piggy tied to the mast while Statler and Waldorf heckle her from the sea
I normally dislike these kinds of takes but this one works absurdly well. Who'd be the kind to brag with their full name to the cyclops? Who'd be immune to turning into a pig because they are already a pig? Who'd want to hear the sirens so badly that they'd tie themsleves to a mast just to ensure the sirens aren't as good singers as them? Who would get brutalized by hubris but still come home ready to kill a bunch of people for trying to get with their partner?
I, a hearing person who likes subtitles just as a preference, shouldn't have to read a subtitle that's obvious nonsense, go back a couple seconds, and listen again in order to figure out what's going on. An accessibility feature should not be the most half-assed part of a professionally made production. Scripted media has absolutely no excuse for not having subtitles or having subtitles that aren't perfectly verbatim. Professional captioning services should be ashamed of the shoddy work that they put out. Captions should be treated as a part of the production, just like filming, editing, audio balancing, etc - and anything that releases with missing or bad captions should be seen as unfinished
Finally, a win
This dumbass stigma that "hick" states are somehow dumber than the more urban ones because they're from poorer areas has to cease...
Hicks are the ones who put us in space.
You know what they changed? What Alabama is doing so different from California and New York?
They’re teaching the kids phonics.
It is legally required.
Turns out, actually learning to read improves students’ skills across the board. Who woulda guessed?
The reason that California and New York don't do it, by the way, is because they fell into the trap of "well, someone bad [in this case George W Bush] supports this, so therefore this must be bad!"
Anyway, that's how they wound up with "whole language instruction" where it's okay if you read "eq" and assume it's "equality" when in fact they're talking about "equity" because ehhh the words are similar enough and it's not like small differences in meaning have ever mattered!
I know that during the height of the harassment campaign against aromantic and asexual people a wildly spread belief was that right-wing conservatives/homophobes etc would actually love aspecs because of [insert far fetched reason based on twisted logic]. but I'm still surprised that so many people bought that argument and still seem completely surprised when it turns out that it's so fucking far from the truth.
Like, everytime there's a new article claiming aspec people are ruining marriage, that we have a sickness that needs to be cured, that we are dangerous to children etc., there are people going "but that doesn't make sense, why would they hate asexuals/aromantics for not doing anything??" and I'm just.. they hate us because we don't fit into their propper heteronormative world view. What's not to get? What's so illogical about that that you have to claim it doesn't exist, that it's just misplaced hatred for some other minority? I guess I'm just angry sometimes that people still think their "ace discourse" logic applies to bigots in the real world.
And like aphobic rhetoric is part of the focus of homophobic rhetoric too.
Gay men aren't just seen as bad because they like men, but because they don't like women
And lesbians are seen as bad because they don't like men, not just because they like women
An intrinsic part of the idealised construction of gender is that men are sexually and romantically attracted to women, and women are sexually and romantically attracted to men.
If you violate that at all, whether it's though not experiencing attraction, experiencing attraction to the wrong gender, or not being the right gender, then you are seen as a threat to society because you are violating the social order.
Aphobia is homophobia is transphobia.
maybe i’m crazy but i’m not actually convinced you care about human dignity and inalienable rights if your outlook on the world is primarily about who should die and suffer
rent-lowering gunshots cause this is getting traction:
YOU MUST LOVE THE VICTIMS OF INJUSTICE MORE THAN YOU HATE THEIR OPPRESSORS.
oh it’s “kill nazis” until the (((zionist))) jew who you believe is an obstacle to world peace and justice shames you for breaking bread with the man doing a seig heil while saying “free palestine"
it’s “free palestine” until the palestinians you claim to advocate for inform you that the shit you put on your instagram story makes their daily lives continually miserable
it’s “protect trans people” until it’s a trans person with a unconventional kink who you’re not attracted to makes you feel icky
“black lives matter” until a black person calls bullshit on you when you say a phrase from aave/ebonics is “new internet lingo”
"Omg! Tumblr its so fun! Full of my favorite media and characters alike! I cant wait to see everything!"

reblog to make prev stop having headaches
I think we need to kill the sentiment that people lose their right to personhood once they do something bad enough
I don't know who needs to hear this but you need to stop dehumanising people even if those people are "abusers" or "creeps" because you need to understand that you are not immune to doing something equally as bad
Abusers and creeps are not some species of especially heinous animal or alien or monster wearing the face of a human. They're people. And you NEED to drill it into your head that they are people because you NEED to remember that people are capable of doingn heinous shit. And you are a person. And your loved ones are people.
By emotionally classifying people who have done heinous things as subhuman filth incapable of thinking and feeling and acting just like you and me, and by using that emotional dehumanization as a reason to deny those people any compassion or support on a systemic level, you risk becoming blind to abuse/violence perpetrated by someone close to you or even yourself. Because if "abusers don't deserve rights", then you won't ever want to admit or accept that you or a loved one is perpetrating abuse, and that makes stopping the abuse or preventing further abuse much harder. This is how you end up excuaing abusive behaviour on the grounds that, since you don't see someone as a disgusting subhuman pile of garbage therefore they can't possibly be An Abuser, Trademark
And here'a the even harder pill to swallow: since the world isn't split into "abusers" and "good people", in the same way you or someone you love can inflict abuse/violence on others, the people who HAVE inflicted abuse/violence on others can, in fact, change and become better people
There is no bottomless chasm of moral uncleanliness that someone can run off and fall into and get stuck in forever. People can do better. Yes, even those people. You HAVE to accept this. Otherwise not only is there no motivation for anyone to try and do better (which is when people become stuck in a cycle of violence and abuse they don't want to escape), but your idea of a perfect justice system doesn't look any different from Literal Christian Hell. And I HOPE you understand that Literal Christian Hell is, to put it very lightly, not a good justice system.
Unchecked and fear-driven dehumanization is the brick foundation for fascism.
you have to get this piercing!
Do you like it?
I have it!
Yes!
yes but I wouldn't get it
No
Wouldn't be worth it

question for the Americans in the room; is this a real thing or just another case of '90% of op/ed writers live in the Bay Area or very specific neighborhoods in NYC/LA'?
how is everyone feeling today
alrighty. lets get this bread
you were almost turned into a vampire, but before you could be fully turned, the vampire was staked. This left you with a vampire weakness, while still being human.
Spin the wheel to find out your weakness!
How much does this effect you?
Nothing changes
It's inconvenient but I can deal with jty
It will be hard to adjust but I'll figure it out
I don't know if I'll be able to live like this
Maybe I can find another vampire to finish the turning?
I might just kill myself
