Once in a while I dip into like fashion and fashion history YouTube and the things they talk about as if theyβre common problems is insane, frankly.
I saw someone was doing a βchallengeβ to not buy any new clothes for 40 days.
I have bought like three shirts in the past year and all of those were because I got gift cards from my family who noticed that I keep my shirts for so long that theyβre falling apart.
god's weakest soldier is scrolling tumblr instead of being productive or participating in any of their hobbies
my general opinion on what people should be "allowed" to portray and what topics they should be "allowed" to explore in fiction is that you can make whatever art with whatever themes you want but i'm also allowed to think the way you handled it was tasteless and should've been done differently. my negative opinion on your handling of sensitive topics is the price of admission for publicly showcasing your work. this is not a pro-censorship stance because i am not The Government
this is getting really popular so iβd like to add the important caveat that your criticism of a work is no more unassailable than the work itself. just as one is entitled to be critical of something someone else is entitled to disagree with that criticism. i add this because some of you pretend to give a fuck about thoughtful analysis and then when someone points out flaws in your argument you declare that all criticisms are valid. this is untrue. the status of a hater is no more sacred than that of a liker. get off your high horse and engage in the thoughtful discussion you pretend to believe in or perish by my blade

Please keep interacting with this post because when I come to tumblr to procrastinate, this shows up again in my notifications and guilts me into writing again
I never thought I would be siding with the popeβs involvement in politics and cheering him on. I will say that.
I watched some videos by that guy who set up a fake ICE hotline to get people to snitch on members of their community. Not only is this very real and useful praxis- he's preventing these ghouls from reaching the real ICE- he also handles the calls in a really amazing way.
For the most part, he doesn't make accusations or insults people, he just repeats back the appalling shit they're telling him. And they get fucking furious. The example that went viral was him fielding a call from a kindergarten teacher who wanted to report one of her student's parents.
This absolutely disgusting piece of shit thought that the parents were "illegals" who were "taking up resources" because they weren't born in the US. The child was a US citizen because he was born here, but she wanted the "ICE" agent to "look into it."
So this dude just starts repeating stuff back like "so you want me to load the parents of the 5-year-old child you teach into a van and deport them, right?" and this bitch has the gall to say "you make it sound terrible π " in a self-conscious way. And then when he finally makes a more direct insult by nonchalantly saying that the 5-year-old "must be a major threat to national security," she demands to speak to his supervisor (which he agrees to and then makes no effort to change his voice for lmao).
This is far from the only call where the whole "repeat their rhetoric back to them" tactic pisses the caller off, too. As rotten, immoral, and disgusting as these ghouls are, I believe there's a tiny part of them that is aware of how fucked up their beliefs and behavior are. Being forced to confront that leads to painful cognitive dissonance and they'd rather lash out at the person who criticized them than look inward and do some self-reflection. Forcing people to confront their own cognitive dissonance of "I'm a good person" clashing with "I have objectively gross and harmful beliefs" is useful, even if it will never go anywhere.
Something that also got me was how the teacher kept looking for OP to soothe and assuage her ego/conscience and got progressively more agitated when he wouldnβt. This is someone who desperately needs to think sheβs a good person who is doing good things when what sheβs doing is objectively heinous.
She thought she was in the right because she was trying to tear apart this family in a βpoliteβ and indirect way. Sheβs not the one holding a gun and herding people into an unmarked van, after all. The fact that her call would have directly led to that outcome doesnβt register as culpability to her until OP makes her connect the dots. THATβS why she got upset, because she was forced to acknowledge the blood on her hands.
The notes I've taken during a work related training lol
I hate ai so much. what do u mean I have to question the material reality of every image now. this is no way to live wtf

The thing about radical kindness (or any kindness, for that matter) is that there are going to be times when someone or something makes you regret it. There are going to be times when you show someone empathy and grace that they don't "deserve". There are going to be times when someone takes that kindness and uses it against you. The world doesn't magically transform into a perfect place when you decide to choose kindness and people will take advantage of it. People will continue to be shitty.
But the thing is...that's not a flaw of kindness. That's not a you problem. That's a them problem. People who are happy with themselves and their lives don't go out of their way to misuse someone's kindness or grace. The "normal" response to kindness or empathy is not to find a way to exploit it. People who are happy with themselves don't look for ways to hurt people for no reason. Kindness will never be the problem. No matter what some shitty person decides to do with it. It should go without saying not to be a doormat, yes. Don't allow people to treat you badly just for the sake of being kind. But also don't let shitty people make you bitter because of how they treated you when you were kind.
"cigarette" implies the existence of a much larger "cigar"
i recovered by the time i hit post but when i first had this thought i had genuinely forgotten cigars exist
There is literally no circumstance where I support age verification to access a website. As I've said before I'm very much the "there's nuance here" person on almost everything but on this issue there's no nuance for me, it's awful and horrible in and of itself and it also sets an awful and horrible precedent
I'm fine with "click here to confirm you're an adult" because it keeps people from finding it by accident.
I do not give a shit if the people checking the box are actually adults, and oppose any effort to confirm that they are.
Also, regardless of your feelings on human nature or anything, I think that a world where children can go to school without fearing being bombed from an ocean away is a world worth aspiring to and worth fighting for. Okay we might never abolish war because the inherent human nature or whatever mighty idealism you have. We could at least try to stop these wars, though?
Again. Everybody get more anti war right now.
