I'll start: Kovu would be That Guy that you want to hate because he's beautiful and popular but then you talk to him and, goddammit, he's actually really genuinely nice. And he's popular because he's genuinely nice so eventually he wins you over. Then you find out that even though he comes off a bit ditzy he has a 3.8 GPA and always does his homework on time

Stella would smoke weed under the bleaches and wear winged eyeliner and probably talk back to me a lot. She would slack on assignments but do well on tests so it'd pretty much evens out most of the time. She would be really strong in science and quite good at math but mostly just interested in being an edgelord

Evangeline (Eva): friendly to everyone, naughty, pranks all of the students and ESPECIALLY the teachers, confident, but also goofy. She has a chronic health condition but she doesn't let it stop her "criminal activities", and she is also decently popular and can make people laugh even if she didn't mean something to be funny. Has no grace and falls off surfaces constantly, definitely sleeps in class. Her grades are so-so because she doesn't use a lot of brainpower for school.

I often see posts about curating your own online experience that make the point, “content creators aren’t your parents.” And, yes, that is absolutely true! And I try not to be like “as a parent,“ but as a parent…

EVEN PARENTS ARE SUPPOSED TO ENCOURAGE RESPONSIBLE READING/VIEWING BEHAVIOR. NOT filter everything ahead of time for their kid.

When my kiddo was 5, his pediatrician was asking him the usual Well Child Visit questions (“What are your favorite foods? What do you do to get your body moving? Do you know what to do if you get lost in a public place?” Etc.) and she asked, “What do you do if you see something on TV that scares or upsets you?”

I piped up like, “Oh, he doesn’t watch TV without one of us in the room,” which was true at the time and is still largely true now. She said, “Yes, but that won’t always be the case, so make sure you’re talking to him about what to do if he sees something that upsets him.”

So we started talking to him about that, and the answer is simple: “Turn it off or leave the room, and talk to someone you trust about what you saw and what you’re feeling.”

The answer is NOT “Ask your parents to make sure you never see anything upsetting again,” because that’s just not possible — and ultimately that would be doing the kid a disservice, since sooner or later he’s going to be out in the world where we can’t control what he watches or reads. That doesn’t mean we don’t try to make sure he’s watching/reading age-appropriate stuff, it just means that’s not the only safeguard he has — and that’s a good thing.

So yes, content creators aren’t your parents and aren’t responsible for making sure you never see anything you don’t like — but also, your own parents should have taught you what to do when that happens. So if they didn’t, take it from me, your internet mom:

Turn it off.

Walk away.

Talk to someone you trust about how you’re feeling.

And leave the person who created the thing that upset you alone.

There's an assumption in a lot of pre-modern religious literature (particularly Christian but by no means limited to Christianity) that assumes that virtually everyone loves themselves way too much to the detriment of their relationships with other people. And I don't know if this means there's been a drastic shift in self-perception in Western society or if it's another case of people assuming something about human nature and making it foundational to their theology.*

*"Punishment is a good deterrent" is an example of this. Almost completely wrong but also foundational to the eschatologies of the Big Three Abrahamic religions.

There are people who could probably put it in better words than I (though I did try with a lesson!) but one thing I love about being Black and Queer is that once you reject all of the internalized hate that your society has forced onto you, that being Black and being Queer are aberrant, sinful, inferior, something to abhor... It's really fucking awesome. Go together like whipped cream and a sundae fr. I love being me.

I haven't loved myself more than I have accepting myself and how my experiences cannot be separated. I'm not just Black and just Queer, the way I think many queer white folks struggle with (how Whiteness affects even your queerness and understanding of gender experience).

I'm both, they're together and inseparable, they make for something that frankly, is clear everybody Wants because otherwise we wouldn't be the queer pop culture creators and innovators we continue to be.

Idk, I just love it. I love knowing that I'm an existence that was meant to die out or be crushed or wilt under pressure and I'm still standing (ha!) I want that for all of us, fr. Self love won't stop systemic oppression, but it sure helps when you're sure of who you are when you're fighting.

Visitors worry wind, rain and sunlight in the farmland will wear them down. The director explains:

first you gotta do the build up and then the actual fucking and the fucking is pretty easy but you never know how long the fucking should last, and eventually you're like "okay I'm tired of this" so the characters cum, but you're not done yet because you can't just end it at "he fucking nutted everywhere" you gotta keep going, and the characters have to chat a little or cry or think about how horrible they are or something and then you kinda don't know when to end that either so now you're 2k words in and you might have put too much self hatred and not enough sucking dick. so you wrap it up, and think well it's done now.
