i havent watched the video but from what i know of joinery and cultural differences rooted in majority religious beliefs (i.e. western christianity where the material world is inherently sinful and does not matter bc you spend eternity in heaven when you die VS eastern animist practices where the material world is inherently holy and therefore worthy of the respect you'd offer to any divine entity) i feel like this is quite possibly less about the race science and more about. yknow. what it says on the tin. the way that the culture you grow up in fundamentally distinguishes how you view and interact with the world and culture(s) around you, and how that reflects in design

but also i may just be entirely wrong bc i havent watched the video as said. maybe it is gonna be some orientalist bullshit. but yeah the history of japanese joinery and architecture and its priorities being radically different to western architectural practices due to a different core of beliefs about many things is actually quite a cool one if you decide to investigate into it further

Also, if I was going to make an argument towards a video about "east vs west" not being racist, I would not do so by implying that Shinto beliefs are inherent to the East. There were literal wars and guerilla struggles fought with Shintoism being forced upon the people of Asia as one of the many points of grievances.

Eastern and Western are common terms to delineate different philosophies. Philosophy is part of culture. They explicitly call out culture.
