This sign? :)
This person is containing their gender as a private string, which would be a line of plain text contained on their own machine which would be free to edit, and not as a public constant Boolean, which would show on everybody's machine, would be read only without possibility of edit, and would be a binary true false statement.
So basically, "It's my gender, it's not a binary, and I'll do what I want with it!" 🤍💜💛🖤
Are you watching the 100-hour climate and weather livestream?
Yes, currently.
Not right now but I have watched part of it.
No but I plan to.
No and I don't plan to.
I didn't know it was happening.
For context, a bunch of climate scientists and meteorologists are currently doing a 100-hour long livestream of scientific talks to protest funding cuts in the USA (it's being cut into segments due to youtube stream length limits). All the science discussed so far has been really cool and you should check it out!

Hello, science fiction writer. Before you is a word processor and your vice of choice. You have 3 days to write a 10,000 word story with a racism allegory. However, if you write a justification into the story where the marginalized group was historically dangerous, i will light all your hair on fire with this cigarette lighter. Clock is ticking.
Make your own fucking post.
This is not a writing prompt please take a remedial literacy class.
#beside the point but isnt 3 days a really short time for 10000 words regardless of other requirements maybe for you. I'm built different
#tumblr users engage with the point the post is making challenge impossible honestly tho
Analysis
First, we address the framework of the post. It is written in the style of a monologue by the puppet known as ‘Jigsaw’, the main antagonist from the Saw movies.
This is important, as this format of post is often used to parallel the way the person puppeting Jigsaw has a grudge against he person caught inside the titular “Saw Trap”. The trap is designed in such a way that a flaw the trapped person has, the same one that sparked the puppeteer’s grudge, will make the trapped person unable to escape the trap.
Keeping this in mind, the trapped person here is “science fiction writers”. Due to the format of the post, it is safe to assume that original poster (OP) has a specific grudge against science fiction writers.
The challenge is to “write a 10,000 word story with a racism allegory”. Given that a science fiction writer would likely be able to write relatively easily, we are left to assume that the crux of this challenge is the implementation of a “racism allegory”.
Additionally, we can assume that the successful implementation of a racism allegory is the fatal flaw that the original poster is ascribing to science fiction writers.
The failure condition of this challenge is writing “a justification into the story where the marginalized group was historically dangerous”.
We can then assume that this failure condition, due to the context of how Saw Traps classically operate, is one that is almost guaranteed to occur.
The consequence the OP states at the end, for failing the challenge, cannot be literal, as the OP has, to our knowledge, no ability to kidnap every science fiction writer on the planet and put them inside a trap that allows their hair to be lit on fire should they fail the challenge.
Thus, synthesizing what we know from the post and the context of the format it is in, we can assume that the drastic nature of the stated consequence serves as an expression of the frustration the OP feels at science fiction writers’ inability to write a racism allegory without also including a justification to the discrimination the marginalized group experiences.
Any deviation from the point the OP is attempting to make (racism allegories in science fiction stories often include justifications for the treatment the marginalized group experiences) serves to distract from the subject at hand.
Where One Can Go Wrong And Why
Discussing whether or not the time constraint is realistic focuses on the wrong point. It treats the arbitrary time constraint as the subject of the post rather than the issue of poorly written science fiction racism allegories.
Adding additional conditions to the challenge’s success dilutes the point being made in the post. It makes the post about BOTH poorly written racism allegories AND the additional condition. This diverts attention away from the specific point being made, and makes problem being addressed wider in scope than it initially was.
Treating the post as a genuine challenge fails to recognize the frustration expressed by the OP. The point made was that the OP does not want to see another poorly written racism allegory in science fiction writing. When the post is treated like a challenge rather than an expression of frustration, a well written racism allegory becomes a novelty to achieve only within the challenge and not consistently outside it.
PERSONAL HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Choose a work of science fiction that contains a racism allegory that depicts the marginalized group as dangerous, and answer the following questions.
1. How is the fictional marginalized group depicted as dangerous?
2. When and where was the work written/published? What were some of the major global conflicts during that time? What were some of the national concerns at the time?
3. What parallels can you draw between the fictional marginalized group and real life marginalized groups associated with the conflicts or concerns of the time period?
How do they rise up?
See how they rise up! Wishing you all Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love, and a Hard Boiled Egg.

"Do you ever dream of land?" The whale asks the tuna.
"No." Says the tuna, "Do you?"
"I have never seen it." Says the whale, "but deep in my body, I remember it."
"Why do you care," says the tuna, "if you will never see it."
"There are bones in my body built to walk through the forests and the mountains." Says the whale.
"They will disappear." Says the tuna, "one day, your body will forget the forests and the mountains."
"Maybe I don't want to forget," Says the whale, "The forests were once my home."
"I have seen the forests." Whispers the salmon, almost to itself.
"Tell me what you have seen," says the whale.
"The forests spawned me." Says the salmon. "They sent me to the ocean to grow. When I am fat with the bounty of the ocean, I will bring it home."
"Why would the forests seek the bounty of the oceans?" Asks the whale. "They have bounty of their own."
"You forget," says the salmon, "That the oceans were once their home."
Last year I finally had an excuse to illustrate this simple little Tumblr story I've had bookmarked forever for class.
I hope you like it :]
how many libraries could you get to from where you live now without looking up directions?
none
one
two
three
four
five or six
seven or eight
nine or ten
eleven to fifteen
sixteen to twenty
twenty to thirty
more than that
You can use any travel method you like, walking, public transport, so on. You can get an uber but their map has failed so you'll have to give directions. You can travel to other countries and count those libraries but you have to be able to completely navigate from your home without assistance. So you can catch a plane but must be able to travel to and from the airport. No limit on how long it takes. If you know which block it's on or which tram line but aren't sure precisely, but you feel sure you'd find it once you got there, count that as a yes (if you're not sure maybe google it now and see if your plan would work). You cannot rely on asking for directions though, this must be all your knowledge
Did you have unrestricted internet access when you were 10 or younger?
Yes
Limited/monitored access
No access at all

If the reboot goes ahead, and SMG plays an older, wiser Buffy who shows up a few times to give advice and encouragement to the new Buffy (named after her, of course), I hope they keep her romantic life as vague as possible. The original Buffy didn't want to know too much (if anything) about Giles' dating history, or her own mother's, and why should the new one?
I hope the most we get about the last twenty years of our Buffy's life are some scattered hints that she's in a long-term relationship with somebody who used to be a vampire -- "a vampire with a soul?" the show's new Buffy can scoff -- but who became human again "decades ago" after fulfilling the terms of an ancient prophecy. I hope they have the original Buffy let slip that she met her partner when she was a high school student, but it took her a while to realize that they were the one. That they used to be evil but have since reformed and help her fight against evil and save the world. That they're the most important person in her life after her sister and her nieces. I hope the Bangel and Spuffy fans spend hours refighting old wars about which character Buffy is "meant to be with", both convinced that the show is building up a cameo by their preferred (now older and in-universe human) leading man.
I hope that, in the last episode of the first season of the new show, our Buffy's phone rings during a key bit of exposition -- in the library, ideally, because it won't be Buffy without one of those -- and she apologizes, saying that she has to take it because "that's my wife". I hope as she walks out of shot, phone in hand, we see her smile and we hear her say "hey, Harmony". And I hope the show never, ever expands on any of that again.
Fuck it. Unhinged smash or pass. Spin the wheel.

I can’t quite recall if it was you asking but yes, the Capitol switchboard is on fire thanks to so many outraged calls to Congress so now people can’t get through.
Remember: if you can't reach their DC office, you can call their local offices.
Also remember: You don't need Serious Political Discussion Skills to call your representatives. You don't need to be able to make an argument that would sustain a 250-message reddit thread.
You can say "This thing here, [name of whatever], I don't like it. It's a bad policy being pushed by rich men for their own benefit. It is dangerous to me and bad for America. I want you to oppose it, as any decent person would."
Or
You can say, "This thing here, [name of whatever], it sucks. It's terrible and I hate it and if you support it than you're terrible and I hate you. I am going to tell all my friends that you are an evil scumbucket and they should never invite you to their birthday parties. You should feel bad about your whole life and then you should go to hell and wish you had been a better person. In case you missed it, you suck and I hate you."
Or
You can say, "This thing here, [name of whatever], is the WORST FUCKING THING I HAVE EVER HEARD OF, YOU RATFUCKING BASTARD. YOUR HEAD IS SO FAR UP TRUMP'S ASS YOU CAN SMELL ELON'S DICK BEING SUCKED. DID YOU BURN INSECTS AND SLAUGHTER KITTENS AS A CHILD OR DID YOU JUST GO STRAIGHT TO TRYING TO KILL YOUR FELLOW HUMAN BEINGS? OH WAIT, THEY'RE NOT YOUR FELLOWS BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT ACTUALLY HUMAN; YOU'RE A SHIT-SUCKING SLIME MOLD. I HOPE YOU NEVER GET LAID AGAIN IN YOUR LIFE."
They have to listen to you, either way. If you're talking to a machine, just keep talking until it cuts you off. You don't have to be eloquent or even coherent.
There are people who are persuasive, who offer all the relevant facts, who have the up-to-date statistics and the names of media influence orgs to drop. And they like doing that. Let them do their part.
Your part is: Jam the damn phone lines until the the interns are terrified to work in any Republican politician's office.

[Survey] Content Management on Archive of Our Own
Carol Zhang, a second year Masters of Digital Arts and Humanities student at the University of British Columbia Okanagan is doing research on Archive of Our Own under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Cinnamon. This research is specifically examining how users interact with the archive’s tagging system and how their wider Internet usage could impact that. Part of this research is the survey - available on this link - for which Zhang is looking for participants.
The survey is anonymous and it takes 10-15 minutes to fill out. It will be available on the above link until January 20th. Participants must be at least 18 years old. More information about how the responses will be stored can be found in the consent form and if you have any further questions, you can contact Carol Zhang at the email address [email protected].
The results of the research will be available through the university’s thesis archive, cIRcle.
If you are interested in talking about content management tools and your experience navigating the archive and you are eligible, consider contributing to the research by filling out the survey.
