1703. Febr. - den 22. Berlin Den 22ten geschahe die Ankunfft zu Berlin gantz glücklich nachdem Sie vor dem Einlaß scharff befragt, und um Dero Coffers visitiren zu lassen, angehalten wurden, welches letztere in Ansehung Dero Hohen Standes, jedoch nicht ohne vieles Wortwechßlen, unterblieb, wovon sonsten um des Zolls, und Accises wegen, welchen man von allen neuen unverarbeiteten Leinwands-Zeugen etc. abtragen muß, keiner ohne Ausnahm verschont bleibet. Sie nahmen Dero Quartier in Cölln, dem andern grossen Theil der Stadt, über der Spree, welche diesen Theil von Berlin, und denen übrigen wegen anwachsenden Innwohnern neuerbauten Theil, nämlich Friederichs-Werder, Dorothea-Stadt, und Friederich-Stadt, scheidet, und vermittelst einer Brücke, welche mit der Statue des Grossen Friderici Wilhelmi pranget, miteinander conjugirt. Hier sahen Sie eine Abbildung der Frantzösischen Residence Paris, nicht zwar in Ansehung der Grösse, als worinnen ein grosser Unterscheid, sondern theils wegen des prächtigen Hofes, welcher gäntzlich nach jenem, doch nach Proportion eingerichtet seyn solle, theils wegen Einrichtung des Staats, Ordnungen, treffliche Manufacturen etc. indem es alles, womit biß dato Franckreich vor andern Ländern gepranget, und der Ausländer Geld an sich gezogen, überflüßig, und in gleicher Vollkommenheit dargeben kan. Und damit sie in keinem Stuck jener etwas nachgebe, hat dieser Preißwürdigste König auf die Art der Frantzösischen Academie, so Ludovicus XIII. und der Societät, so sein Nachfolger daselbsten angeordnet, auch eine Academie aufgerichtet, in welcher sich sonderlich Mathematici befinden, deren Verrichtung ist, daß sie die Künsten perfectioniren, neue Experimenta machen, und allerhand Machinen erfinden.

Herein they saw a depiction of the French residence Paris, not in view of the size at that, as for which there is a great difference, but partly because of the splendid Court, which was supposedly furnished entirely according to that but in proportion, partly because of the institution of the state, orders, excellent manufactures etc. as it can offer everything with which until now France had boasted before other countries and pulled the foreigners' money to it, abundantly and serve in the same perfection. And so they don't concede anything in any way to it, this Most Praiseworthy King has erected in the manner of the French Academie as Ludovicus XIII. and the Society as his successor had mandated, an academy as well, in which there are especially mathematicians, whose task it is that they perfection the arts, perform new experiments, and invent all kinds of machines.
