Whump Prompt #29
Not really a prompt, just some good information for any whump writer.
Typically, humans run on a 24 hour internal clock, which is why we feel hungry/tired/etc around the same time every day. It's why it's hard when we go to a different time zone.
This internal clock can be reset by bright lights. When you get off the plane at Boston when you came from Denver, flash a light in your eyes for a moment and it'll help reset your clock. Maybe not as good for whump, but maybe it'll help you personally.
Now, for the cool stuff.
If you take away all light cues and remove all devices to tell time, the 24 hour clock is replaced by a 25 hour clock. We don't know why, and you don't notice it, but it happens. There actually was an experiment where this guy lived in a cave with no natural light and only a small head lamp for a long time. Paychoogists remotely tracked when he slept by remotely checking a heart rate monitor. He thought he woke up at 8 am daily, but really the hour was changing daily.
Considering whumpees tend to have no light or time devices, I thought this could be of use.
I learned about it in AP Psychology, so it's a real thing.

re: pantsless anon i was wondering if maybe it has to do with the time of day the poll is posted? i’m not sure if that affects when people are seeing it and voting on it or not. maybe it evens out over time. can we run a poll for what time of day it is for people

a while ago i switched my phone to military time/a 24 hour clock and while it looks very nice it makes me lose concept of all time, like it'll be 17:00 and I'm like "geez it's so late!!" but then 18:00 rolls around and I'm like "its only like six"
