My Mum used to tell me to bloom where you’re planted. I didn’t really understand what she meant because I was a kid with some ambitions. Sometimes my world felt tight, and ever tightening. People said “the world’s you oyster” and I thought jeepers, oysters spend their life in a prison of their own making. There’s got to be some other something. I found the 8-fold path speaks of a tight means of making a living. I wasn’t slaughtering animals or being forced to violate others. Mum was probably at least inspired by 1 Corinthians 7:20-24 which talks about a calling within slavery. I’ve never found my niche. There’s things I love doing that pay nothing, and I’ve been paid for things that are ultimately futile. Don’t judge me, how you doing with your job? What I’ve come to understand, to really feel in my heart is, if I lock on doing my humble job as though it was important I’ll feel ok. We have no art, we just do everything as well as possible.
