Something something something - Buck placing the 344j3 cards down in front of Chris and Chris saying “you’re letting me win” meaning “you’re letting me stop you?” Because Buck is more scared than Eddie about another Kim situation. He doesn’t want to be the next Kim situation, for Chris’ sake he can’t be. And Chris is confused as to why Buck would set down those cards when they so clearly show that he and Eddie are already his family. That this wouldn’t be a Kim situation because Buck is already family. Eddie is in the cards, but Buck is holding them in front of Chris, and too scared to play them as a result.

sometimes I wonder how the firefam's development would've looked like if they hadn't changed the tone + look of the show between s1 and s2

Okay but like all of Bucks problems come from the fact that he’s so much like his adoptive parents.

I think chimney was honestly The right choice for captain, and I know a lot of people were hoping for Captain Hen but I don’t think her character arc with it would have meant as much as Chim’s does, at least to me. The best way I have to summarize it is that when the show started she had a family, people to go home to that she loved and he’s there have been issues but ultimately she could rely on the fact that if nothing else they loved her and were there for her. Chimney? Not so much. He wasn’t even a part of the scene with Bobby breaking down and missed a lot of the initial 118 family bonding that hen, Bobby, and Buck had started. For a long time the 118 was the ONLY thing he had to rely and depend on, and I love and adore Maddie to death but she also left him on his own and again all he had to lean on was the 118 (and well the Lees were back in his life by then too but not as often on screen at least) and that wasn’t terribly long ago

So I guess all I’m trying to say is that it really makes sense that the one who became captain was the one who needed to hold that family together the most, for himself yeah, but also because he knew just how important it was
