Less than twelve hours after The Kavernacle made is video addressing the fact that ContraPoints, PhilosophyTube, and Hbomberguy didn't adequately address Gaza (if you didn't watch it), ContraPoints did make a response on Reddit, probably not exclusively due to Kav's video, though that may have been the catalyst. Kav had a response to that, as well as some of the criticisms of the video in general and how he had addressed the other two (who I don't follow as closely, so I didn't have as strong opinions).
As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm not on Twitter, so I didn't see the tweets ContraPoints had made on the subject. I do follow her on Instagram and Bluesky and noticed that she was rather quiet on the topic. Early after October 7th, I remember wondering if she didn't talk about the subject was because she didn't want to get accused of antisemitism again like she did after the lizard joke, which was pretty much confirmed to me when she referenced that in an apologetic way in her conspiracy theories video and also made her solitary video reference to Gaza in the middle of a discussion of antisemitism. Seeing her response now really emphasizes not only that point, that she very scared of being called an antisemite again after an incredibly bad faith accusation that hardly anyone even remembered to begin with, but another criticism I had of her even when I was at the peak of being a fan of hers: she approaches everything from this way too hypothetical, academic way - ironic, given the first video of hers I ever watched was that one about how grad school is a mistake and she mentioned that very thing in her experiences in a philosophy PhD program - that doesn't know how to actually approach reality sometimes. Also a bit ironic, the first time I remember thinking that was after her Jordan Peterson video, given she referenced it in the Reddit response, because she was only addressing him and his arguments face on rather than the issue with the cult of personality around him at the time overall, but that was less of a serious issue than this obviously. She may not be a grad student any more, but even after being a broke, grad school dropout, she still suffers from this issue that I, as a current grad student (albeit not a philosophy one, where I hear this issue is even worse and certainly observed it among my philosophy major classmates as an undergrad), see way too often among our ranks (something I'm guilty of myself): some people's inability to escape the idea of everything as an academic mind experiment. Brainrot: grad school edition -_-
Mind you, Kav himself literally has a Masters degree, so I think he is a good example of someone who escaped grad school brain. I'd say it's because he was a Global Studies person instead of a Philosophy person, but I've seen this sort of thing even in my own program, which is shall we say closer to Global Studies than Philosophy.
