So you know how Ace and Aro people have their rings right? I think we should have that for the rest of the ace spectrum ppl too. Like maybe aegosexual people could have checkered rings, graysexual people could have gray rings, demi people could have striped rings, etc etc! Coming from a demisexual person i think it’d be cool to see the whole ace community have their own unique thingie

Just only recently learned about the concept of ace rings? And I got something super small and cheap for myself and it's kinda silly but it's honestly helped me feel so much more comfortable and confident in myself :)

Ace Rings, A Guide

As someone who has been identifying as ace for about ten years now, I thought I'd put this together to help out my fellow aces with a handy rundown of how to choose an ace ring.

For those who don't know, an ace ring is a black ring worn on the right hand, usually the middle finger, to lowkey signal one's aceness. It can be any kind of black ring, but some materials are better than others, and that's what I want to talk about.

If you're an ace looking for a ring or an ally looking to buy one for an ace, here are the kinds you are likely to find:

Tungsten

The vast majority of black rings you search for are going to be some kind of tungsten ring.

Pros:

easy to find

widest variety of styles

rich black color

won't break

Cons:

heavy

requires special technique to get off in an emergency

Steel

Pros:

can be easily cut off in an emergency, unlike tungsten

has a normal ring weight

not likely to break

Cons:

usually more of a chrome-black than a proper black

less common

not as many styles available

Fiber

Pros:

soft and light

cheap

easier to get the right fit

wide variety of styles available

Cons:

easy to break

will get dirty and stay dirty very easily

seriously, the wet bandaid effect is real

Plastic

Pros:

very cheap

very easy to get off in an emergency

light

Cons:

breaks easily

not a lot of stylish variety

difficult to be sure if it's a safe plastic

Silicon

Pros:

stretchy and light

cheap

very safe

more likely to fit well

Cons:

pretty much only available in plain bands

crud sticks to it and has to be washed off

Do I constantly wear a black ace ring around everywhere in hopes that one day a fellow ace will be sitting somewhere and I’ll notice their black ring so i’ll gesture to them, they’ll look up, then I’ll point to my right hand and the middle finger that also sports an ace ring and they’ll get extremely excited and hold up their hand to point to the same type of ring and we’ll vibrate excitedly and then they’ll come over and we’ll exchange numbers and I’ll have an ace friend to talk to in everyday life and we’ll get coffee and just become all around dragon loving besties? (Because if they don’t like dragons then I’m sorry, we can’t be besties)

Having said that, do I also know that I’m so entirely oblivious that I’ll absolutely never notice someone is wearing rings let alone notice the color, hand, and finger they’re wearing? One hundred percent, absolutely never gonna notice, our future friendship is in the hands of them because if it was up to me we would never meet

If I can ever figure out what my ring size is, I’m definitely going to get one of these. Aces, they have black rings too.

They also sell charcoal grey, which got me thinking: What would you say if we created a new custom for allo partners of aspec people to wear a grey ring? There are so many options for that, and it would go with both the allosexual and alloromantic flags.
