Ever thought about tiny 5 year old Remus, who has just been bitten, watching his parents cry whilst he stands there unsure why they are sad.
He runs up to his mummy and gives her a hug and tells her 'don't cry mummy! Look! It's healed!' and she just smiles at him through her tears and calls him her 'big brave strong boy' before bringing him into her arms to give him a hug, and he's happy because mummy gives the best hugs even when she's sad.
Tiny Remus aged 5 during his first full moon. He's cold and scared and he doesn't know why mummy and daddy would leave him in the cold cellar alone. They said it was to keep him safe but it was dark and cold and monsters lived in the dark, didn't they know that? Last time it was dark he got hurt and that scary creature that left the now-healed mark which made mummy cry and he didn't want mummy to cry again.
And then the moonlight starts to glow around the room casty dark scary shadows around the room like the night he got bitten by that scary monster and the pain starts. And he sobbing, calling out to mummy and daddy because it hurts, and he doesn't know why, and he wants it to stop. It's the most pains he's ever felt in his life and he doesn't understand why mummy and daddy won't come to stop it because they've always kissed him and hugged him when he was hurting, and why weren't they coming this time when he was hurting the most?
Tiny Remus aged 5 who transforms back and is still in pain, and he doesn't understand why mummy and daddy would leave him alone in the cold cellar alone to deal with such pain. He cries and cries calling out for mummy and daddy weakly because he has no energy but surely, surely they will come and stop the pain from hurting. And sure enough his Mummy runs in, tears gathering at the bottom of her lash line whispering 'I'm sorry, you're ok Remy' over and over again as she hugs him as he sobs, healing his cuts with her wand that he liked to steal because it makes pretty sparkles.
Little Remus aged 7 finding a page about wearwolves in his library book, and breaking down into crying wailing sobs because he's realised that he will be locked in that cold cellar dark cellar every month for the rest of his life. That little spark of hope that he had had that had slowly dwindled into a flickering piece of ash with each transformation had been completely sniffed out when he realised he will never get to be the same again and he will always have to be alone and cold and in terrifying pain for the rest of his life in the cellar. His mum comes running and scoops him into one of her magical hugs, but it doesn't feel magical because it doesn't stop the pure fear and terror that he feels nor does it stop him from having to go through to transformation in the cold dark cellar, alone, every month, for the rest of his life.
Remus aged 11, cutting up his toast into four slices and covering each one in a different spread as him mum looks on smiling, sipping her tea. Remus aged 11 convinced he would never get his letter to Hogwarts dispite his strong magical abilities because he was dangerous and would kill someone. His dad said he wouldn't because he was a- a monster and he was dangerous to people. He knows he will never get that letter but he oh so wishes he could get it because he is so so lonley.
Remus aged 11 looking up from his toast at his mums gasp, following her eyeline to see an owl with a letter addressed to one 'Mr Remus John Lupin' written in cursive black ink ontop of brown parchment paper. Remus staring at the letter in shock, freezing where he is sat before the owl let's out a "hoot" and flaps it's wings impatiently. He runs over to the owl, not daring to hope but it had to be? Didn't it?
Remus aged 11 receiving lecture after lecture from his dad reminding him how dangerous he was. Reminding him that he has one chance, that no-body can find out his secret because werewolves are hated and feared and he will have to leave if anyone figures it out. It hurts being reminded that he's a monster but he nods and takes notes in his mind studiously reminding himself to study and work hard because maybe, maybe he will have a chance at life after hogwarts. It hurts but hes so excited to be normal. To have normal friends. A taste of normal life since he was 5.
Remus aged 12 closing his eyes as his friends corner him in their room towards the end of the year because he's seen their eyes and he knows. He knows they've figured it out, learnt the monster he is, the vile creature he becomes and so they won't want to be friends with him anymore, they won't want to live with him around. And that's ok, he knew it would happen one day, happy things don't last for monsters after all.
But if he closes his eyes, then he doesn't have to see it. Maybe...maybe he can hold it off. Pretend it hasn't happened. Breath in a taste of normality that he's never gotten to have before. Seeing means looking at thier knowing faces, so he closes his eyes, because he's always wanted to be normal, so maybe he can pretend for a little longer that he is.
Remus aged 15 staring at a rat a dog and a stag where his friends used to be in their dorm room, eyes filled with confusion, terror and most importantly awe. Confusion as to who would want to try relieve a monster of their suffering, confused as to the lengths his friends are willing to go for him because he doesn't deserve it, he's dangerous. Terror for what this could mean in the future but the tiny spark of hope that had been snuffed aged 7 raging in his stomach once more with the idea of not being alone in that cold dark cellar or freezing broken shack any longer. Awe for what his friends are willing to do, hell what they did is illegal, and they did it for him. A monster. A creature of shadows and darkness. A dangerous being. And yet they still did it for him. He doesn't deserve his friends, he never will, but merlin is be eternally grateful for them.
Remus aged 15 breaking down in his bed after the prank because he's just a weapon. A monster. He was so stupid to think anyone would see him as anything different, Sirius was proof of that. Sirius his closest friend, Sirius with his loud laugh and grey-blue eyes that shine silver when he is happy.
Sirius, the boy he loves.

Remus aged 16, birthday as uncelebrated as he could convince James (which, let's be real here, still wasn't that uncelebrated) because he's just a monster. A creature. Dangerous. Who wants to celebrate a monster continuing to live, especially when the monster themselves doesn't want to?
Remus aged 16, found by the one he should hate the most but can't help but keep loving but will never be loved by, sobbing on his bed, begging for it to be over, for someone to kill him before he hurts someone or worse, kills someone, because he can't live with himself if he does that, and he just wants it to be over. He's tired, he doesn't want to do it anymore, and will someone, anyone, please just kill him?
Remus aged 18, day before graduation, sitting under the great oak tree next to the lake, his boyfriends head on his lap as he reads, playing with sirius long strands of hair. He turns his head to see James and Regulus next to him, teasing and making sarcastic comments about the other respectively. Peter and Evan playing chess, which is more like Peter utterly demloshing Evans standing on the board at every move as Evan sits with his head in his hands. Barty sits next to them, transforming in and out of his animagus form, cheering 'Rosie! Rosie!' and then laughing when Evan inevitably loses. Those two haven't figured it out between the two of them, but Remus gives it 2 months max until one of them implodes. Probably Barty. Remus has a feeling Evan would keep ahold of his feelings forever if he could, Barty still being in denial and taking a girl into the dorm at every party hasn't helped.
He looks up at the sky where a full moon had hung not 3 days before. The sound of his friends chatter full his ears, greetings as Dorcas, Mary, Marlene, lily and Pandora join them from whatever shenanigans they where up to. He smiles.
