I didn't receive a proper education, and my English is very weak, so is it wrong to use artificial intelligence only for translation?
Please note that everything is my own work. I don't let AI write for me. The words are mine and the story is mine. I write it in my native language first and then translate it into English. So, should I classify my stories using AI-specific tags?
Do the smear campaigns also include me? 🥲
my opinion on what counts as ai-generated fic is when the fic in question was created from start to finish by ai, without any human input (except for the prompt).
if a human writes the work themself and only uses ai as a tool to help them with grammar or translation then, even though I may not personally agree with their choice — if we are not talking about the ethical aspects of it — it’s the same as asking google (which is basically ai now) or a human beta reader for help. (some may argue that ai is unethical and unreliable, and that’s true, but what you choose to do is your business and something you can decide for yourself.) overall, as long as you write the fic yourself, the work is still something you create. as a human.
I’d say there may be other ai-free sites that offer free translation, but I don’t know where to find them or how accurate/reliable they are, or if they are able to smoothly translate the entire fic. I also unfortunately don’t know where to find a human beta reader that can translate from your native language to english for free (beware of scams if you ever want to consider asking strangers you don’t know for their help with this, fandom and writing space are unfortunately full of scammers who claim that they beta read or translate works for others, but they’re actually scammers; so I don’t blame people for resorting to other ways of getting help with their fics, even if it’s ai). so if you want to be honest, you can say “translated to english by ai, but the original version in my native language is human-made by me”.
as for your other question, “does the smear campaign include me?” I believe that depends on how each person views what counts as ai-generated fic. and I won’t lie that some of them will harass anybody if they think a fic looks ai. (and while I don’t let ai write for me and while I am not a fan of ai-generated fics, I’d never condone harassment.) so like, if I’m being honest, the real question that you should ask yourself is “do I care about what strangers think?” there’s no right or wrong answer. some people are gonna be bullies. (not talking about people who are against ai fics — I am against ai fics — but people who think they can freely harass other people.) so if you decide to let ai translate your work for you, post it and tag “translated to english by ai, but the original version in my native language is human-made by me” and then get harassed or attacked by someone, then my advice is to block them (or report their comment to ao3 if it’s outright harassment, which is against ao3’s terms of service).
