Shining World Compassion and Hero Award Recipient: Damien Mander (vegan) – A Valiant Animal Defender

Damien served in elite #Australian special operations military units when he was young. Exploring a number of occupations after completing his service, he arrived in #Africa, where he discovered he could put his #militaryskills to good use. Using his life savings, Mr. Mander founded the International Anti-Poaching Foundation (#IAPF) in 2009, to protect and preserve #wildlife in many regions. #Repost @skylands_sanctuary with @repostsaveapp · · · We got a call today asking for help with a calf that was flat out on her side and barely alive.. Someone was driving by a local “family farm” and saw a bloated cow from the road, she called police and then called us. We called a vet and drove out immediately, arriving on the scene less than 15 minutes after getting the call. On the scene we found the bloated cow had been dead for some time. Ten feet from was a dead calf. We then found the woman who saw her and a police officer with the other calf. She was barely alive. She was nothing but bones.. The vet arrived. We took blood and administered meds and IV fluids. Her temperature was only 86 degrees, instead of the 102 I was hoping for.. The farmer showed up and signed Minnie the calf over to us.. We took her back to the sanctuary and put her in a warmer to try and get her temperature up.. Sadly beautiful Minnie passed away.. We buried her.. She was a beautiful little Hereford girl and only a baby.. SHE STARVED TO DEATH BECAUSE NO ONE CARED ENOUGH TO FEED HER OR HER HERD... This sucks.. You shouldn’t be able to “own” someone..
