I've been mulling this over all day and I don't... think I have any?? I have opinions that I may have thought were unpopular in the past but I've since posted about and had people agree with. also atm the fandom is so small that I can't really say what's popular vs unpopular, it feels too much like singling people out 😭
um. I guess the one thing is I don't think Charles is totally irredeemable?? I've never really hated him like some have, I guess because I don't put too much weight on the timeline; its all over the place & has been since the beginning. also I'm just not a fan of how his character is treated by the narrative overall. I hate his relationship with Alastair but I don't hate him if that makes sense.
also I have to this alternative version of his relationship with Ari rattling around my head lol. essentially early on they're both very hesitant (especially Ari) and consider calling it off but instead find out the other is gay too and both go "hang on, this is great!" and develop a like 30 year life plan on how they're going to become The political power couple of the Clave. everytime they're on a romantic stroll looking so in love in reality they're actually debating in depth some obscure policy (or alternatively, being the world's worst wing person ever). idk it's a fun little headcanon of mine.

Alastair flopped down head first onto his bed and screamed into the pillows and mattress. He could hear his roommate Ari start laughing. "This isn't funny, Ari, I'm having a crisis."
"I told you not dump that milkshake on Charles."
"He fucking deserved it."
"And now you're stuck rooming with the most boring guy on campus." She snorted. "It's actually really funny how ironic this pairing is."
Alastair sat himself up, "I am not a goddamn feral dog, alright? I don't need to be 'rehabilitated' and 'chaperoned' like some wild animal who attacks people!"
"At least now, Charles can't corner you again."
"I don't know if it's worth the trade."
"Anything's better than dealing with Charles."

His mom knocked on his doorframe as he put the rest of his clothes and linens into boxes. "Hey darling, how's packing going?"
"I can't believe you and dad are doing this." Thomas said softly. "I didn't do anything!"
"Tommy, we're really worried about you. You don't talk to anyone outside our family and close friends. You barely even speak to your teachers." Sophie walked over and sat on the edge on his bed. "Your dad and I talked it over, and we think rooming with this young lad ought'a do you some good. Meet someone new, learn to share a small space, live independently."
Thomas shut his eyes tightly, opening them before moving to sit next to his mom. "I'm happy where I am, mama."
Her hand covered his and she squeezed. "No, Tommy, you're not happy. You're content with what you're given and you never ask for more, even when you deserve it. And we had hoped that being friends with the boys would help you over the course of all these years, but you're still stuck in this loop of waiting for something that's not there."
"I don't even know this guy, mom. All I know is that my friends and half the school and faculty hate him. And that's he mean, and blunt, and he smokes, and he's violent." Thomas didn't mean to whine, he was an adult, and adults don't whine when they're frustrated, but it slipped into his voice near the end of his complaints.
"People say shit all the time, Thomas, and that's all it is. Get to know the boy before you start insulting him as if you've walked in his shoes." Sophie said sternly, a tone she rarely used with her youngest child, one she always found herself slipping into when it came to her two rambunctious daughters who seemed determined to make all her hair go grey.
"Yes mama."
"And I don't want to hear you complain about this until after it's over."
"Yes mama."
"And you will not hide in your room all day and avoid him during school."
Thomas hesitated before sighing, "yes mama."
She patted his cheek. "Good boy. Now finish up, we leave in an hour."
