A drabble of Hiccup and Astrid welcoming nuffink into the family? :-
Little Brother
Zephyr was hoping for a little sister. "Boys are yucky," she'd say, sticking her tongue out.
"Hey!" Hiccup laughed, tickling his daughter, "You know, I'm a boy, and I'm not yucky."
Her giggles filled the Haddock hut, her little hands trying to push his away. "Daddy! Stop! You--you're not yucky, only stinky sometimes."
"Stinky?!" He exclaimed, lifting her up. She squealed, clearly having a great time with her father. "Well, we can blame Toothless for that."
"Or those long days in the forge," Astrid stepped forward, her hand resting on her stomach. "Especially in the middle of summer."
"I always wash it off!"
"You do, but that doesn't mean you didn't stink in the first place!"
Now they were all laughing, and after Astrid lowered herself into a chair, Zephyr wriggled out of Hiccup's arms and ran over. "Is my baby sister coming yet?"
"Not yet, but soon."
She pouted, "What's taking so long?"
The Chieftess sighed heavily. "Only Thor knows."
"Your little sister, or little brother, will be here when the time is right. No sense in getting impatient, Zeph." Hiccup knew full well it didn't help anything, though he was excited for the arrival of their newest family member too.
----
It was only a week later when Astrid alerted Hiccup that it was time. Zephyr was put in the care of Valka, while the chief tended to his wife and the healers came to their hut.
It wasn't until the following day that Hiccup came to pick Zephyr back up.
"How are they?" Valka asked.
"Both are doing well, they just needed extra rest," nothing could wipe Hiccup's smile from his face. He knelt in front of Zephyr, "are you ready to meet your little brother?"
She wrinkled her nose. "Brother?!"
"Aw, come on. I think you'll like him. You know, your mother has been asking for you."
"...Okay, I'll go."
----
Zephyr peeked her head into her parents room, her blue eyes wide. Sitting propped up in the bed, Astrid waved her over. "It's okay, you can come closer. He won't bite."
She looked up at her father, who gave an encouraging nod and placed his hand on her back. Tentatively, she stepped forward. "So...I have a brother?"
"You do," Astrid adjusted the bundle in her arms as the newborn yawned. "Zephyr, this is Nuffink."
The little girl took a long look at him. He was fully bundled up, so she could really only see his face and a single hand that was poking out. "He's awfully wrinkly."
"It takes a few days. You looked like that too, when you were born," Hiccup pointed out with an amused grin.
Huh. Zephyr tilted her head, reaching a finger towards his hand. Nuffink's fingers closed around hers, and she came to a decision.
"Well, I guess having a little brother isn't so bad."
