Call me weird, but once I got out of school and into adulthood I started to enjoy public speaking. I've had a few great experiences, and it's a nice change of pace to feel 'heard' and get a short time in the spotlight.
My husband was invited to do a presentation for a two-week forestry course that's going on in our county. When he was asked if he knew anyone else who could present, he asked my son's roommate if he wanted to talk about falconry, and my son if he would bring his drone to get some group photos.
Tuesday, while they were waiting to begin, Son asked for a piece of paper and a pencil. He started scribbling a few notes. Then he gave a full presentation about drones and drone photography, instead of just taking pix. The whole shebang; taking questions, audience participation, all polished and engaging.
I am laughing so hard. I actually did the same thing once, taking over last-minute for someone who did not want to speak at an award ceremony. He really enjoyed it, and told the event coordinators that he would be available in the future to talk about various subjects. I fully understand why many people dread public speaking, but it can be so wonderful to be seen and heard. To teach, and reach out.
