Advice for Remy, Day 110. Keep fit and exercise lots - even if it’s the last thing on Earth you want to do. Joe Wicks. Bloody Joe Wicks. Him and his loveable attitude and eagerness to make all of us fit for free. Damn him. While everyone’s kids across the nation are showing their parents up by easily carrying out his morning PE lessons, while their middle-aged mum and dad are left wheezing in the corner of the room, we’ve also jumped on the Wicks bandwagon and are doing some of his HIIT sessions once a week. Now, of that acronym, three of the four words put me off immediately - ‘high intensity’ and ‘training’. Interval I can take or leave to be honest. However we started his beginners HIIT sessions, which he’s at pains to remind me all the way through are “extremely basic” and for “absolute beginners”, which doesn’t do my self confidence much good as I’m wheezing through the first repetition. But, in all honesty, they’ve been great, and the fact he’s doing so much for the nation at a time like this (from the comfort of our own living rooms as well) is something to really be applauded. It’s so important to keep active - now more than ever while we’re all being forced to stay at home - so this kind of thing is massively helpful right now. I can’t say I’ll be taking him up on his offer of graduating up to the more intense sessions any time soon, but for now, he’s doing us a lot of good, and seemingly doing a great deal for millions of people every day. So take a leaf out of his bouncy-haired chiseled-calved chirpy how-is-he-not-even-breaking-a-sweat book and always try to keep active no matter what your circumstances - your ageing body will definitely thank you some day.
