Someone asked me recently how I stay humble. My answer—all the mistakes I’ve made and the ways I’ve gotten it wrong in the past. _ I know what it feels like to look at your life and only see the problems and what has gone wrong, the mistakes, missteps and miscalculations. It can feel like a weight that drains life of meaning and pushes the heart to despair. The search for happiness can sometimes feel like learning how to swim through a sea of regrets. _ But, there is a hope even amidst the what feels like hopelessness. There is potential at each and every breath. There is joy, ever present and undying, in all our hearts. And there is love, the vast promise of existence, which never gives up on any being no matter how lonely it may seem. _ Sometimes I feel like we aren’t here to prove anything to anyone, that the big world doesn’t need us to rise up and fight for this or that. Instead, sometimes I feel like we are here to realize the impact of kindness at it lives and breathes within the fiber of our being, that by embodying kindness, compassion and love, we unlock the real magical mystery within, like a glorious melody that plays through the symphony of our life.
