You’ve already stayed up late texting him for 3 hours before you reluctantly had to tell him goodnight.
When you woke up, you received 3 new messages from him.
And in one of them, he asked, “But like, could we hangout sometime?”
You both decided to go to an arcade which had a roller skating rink, bowling, and overpriced food.
It was your suggestion but he agreed to go nonetheless.
You chose to wear something simple, comfy, cute.
It was just a hangout. Nothing else. At least, that’s what you thought.
Once you arrived, you couldn’t spot him with the amount of people and with how dark it was inside.
Since this was one of the only cool places in your boring town, it was bound to be busy on the one day you were looking forward too.
The arcade had black-light lighting and was mainly light up by the clusters of arcade machines and the disco lights on the roller rink floor.
After looking around for a minute, you texted him, asking where he was, before you went up to the counter to check in.
You paid to enter, waiting for your skates, before feeling someone tap you on the shoulder.
You flicked your head to the side, making immediate eye contact with him.
“Hey, you.” He grinned with that stupid smile you know and love.
“Holy crap, you scared me…”
“Sorry. Didn’t mean too.” He looked to the side and then back to you, leaning back a bit as he stood up straight.
“Are you getting your skates?”
“Uh yeah… have you gotten yours yet?”
You haven’t talked to him in person for a while, and especially not one on one. You had no words to say until...
“I remember you told me about those hobbies you did.”
“Oh yeah?” You asked, suddenly intrigued by his statement.
“Yeah. You said- um… that you were pretty good at all kinds of skating. So, that means you’re good with roller skates and roller blades?”
You nodded. “Mhm and skateboarding too.”
“Yeah, but I’m not too good at it…”
“That doesn’t matter. It’s still cool. And once you get better, I can’t wait to watch you.”
“Of course I do. With everything else too. If you’re proud of what you’re doing, then I’m twice as proud.” He said to you. Genuinely.
You smiled. “Thank you. That means a lot to me.”
“Here’s your skates.” A voice interrupts.
After you both got your skates, you both headed down to the roller rink.
“If you fall, I’ll catch you.” You teased with a cheeky grin on your lips.
“Well I won’t. Just watch me.”
You finished tying up the rollerblades you rented from the counter and stood up, waiting for him to finish tying up his roller skates.
“So you can tie your roller skates and not your shoes?”
“Because I can actually trip in these.”
You both entered the roller rink, which was swarmed with different kinds of people. Adults, their kids, and the ones who kept falling no matter how hard they tried. You watched him slowly skate across the rink, slightly struggling as he moved in his skates. You smiled at him, reminding him you’ll catch him, before you skated off. You made laps around the rink, since it was fairly small, before you finally caught up with him. He was still struggling.
“No… I’m fine. I just- I’m just rusty that’s all.”
“Are you sure? I can get that roller skating aid that’s over there for you.”
“I’m not a kid!” He exclaimed.
You chuckled, “So, just hold onto my hand instead.”
And he did. Hand in hand. In the roller skating rink. Just like the couples you hated who skated too slow.
No words were uttered after that other than sound of occasional laughter. You both skated around the rink. Not as fast as you wanted too, but good enough to get around. He was partially hanging onto you for life and partially hanging onto you because he just wanted to. But you didn’t know that then.
After skating, bowling, gaming, you two were hungry and exhausted. The meals and drinks they sold there were expensive, so you both decided to head over to the burger place nearby.
It was already dusk and the sky hung onto the sun. A beautiful sunset. A view just for the two of you.
You got your food and went to sit down at one of the tables outside. He joined you shortly after.
He sat beside you, but not close enough.
After you took a few bites, he asked you
“If you had to wish for one thing in the world, what would it be?”
“Something global, like world peace or solving world hunger.” You answered.
He nodded at your words, taking a few bites of his burger too.
You both sat there in silence.
He wanted to say something, but didn’t know how, until you asked him,
“I think I’d wish for this day to last a little longer.”
You smiled. You didn't expect that kind of response from him, but you did want to believe him. You looked over to him, with your burger in hand, and with your blushing face.
"I wouldn't worry about today ending."
He looked at you, wondering what you meant.
"There's still tomorrow, and then the next, and then the next day."
"I mean yeah... but what about-" He stammered.
"It's okay if today ends. As long as you're okay going on another date with me."
He reacted quickly to your words, and a small blush formed on his face. He nodded and soon a smile grew on his lips too, matching yours.
"Okay. A date it is then."
