Stranger Things/ Bible Symbolism
This is gonna be weird, but I was reading an AU fic and it got me thinking about how much Stranger Things likens to the bible. MAJOR spoilers for Stranger Things (duh), Stranger Things S5 leaks and The First Shadow play (The Bible too ig???). Also S5 theories.
Brenner is referred to as Papa, a paternal name, like how Abrahamic religions refer to God as Father. He watches over all of the children in the lab and is an older man (like how God is depicted).
Henry/001 was the first, strongest, and well liked by Papa, much like how Lucifer Morningstar was a Cherub (a high ranking angel), guarded the mercy seat and was God's right hand man. Not to mention how both are depicted as attractive blonde men.
But then, temptation (in Henry's case Patty and in Lucifer's case pride [or Lilith]) struck and they both wanted to escape from the grasp of their higher powers, become their own master.
They were then thrown off their high chair and made weaker, Lucifer cast out of heaven and Henry had Sotaria planted into his neck to limit his powers/ when he was sent to the Upside Down by El and the children [devils] were also gone. They were both mutilated, no longer the beautiful creatures they once were, and given new names (Satan and Vecna).
They both saw their new territories as purgatory, before realizing they could use the new place as a way to gain power and influence.
Lucifer then tempts Eve to bite into the apple, much like how El was tempted to get Sotaria out of Henry's neck. Both women commit the act and are immediately punished, Eve cast out of Eden and El blamed for the death of all the children and seen as a monster in Brenner's eyes (or maybe Patty being thrown off the stage??). I also feel it's important to point out the similarities in their full names, Evelyn and Eleven.
But this raises the question, what role does El and the others play with this story line of the bible? Obviously, El plays Eve in the lab and maybe the Archangel Michael because of her banishment of Henry, but after that, what?
Well, I believe that either El or Will (or both) are going to be filling in the role for Jesus. Considering both story lines, I feel like it would make sense for these two to fill in His role with the ultimate sacrifice.
El is seen as Brenner's child (seeing as she refers to him as Papa) and is marketed as the 'hero' of the story. Will is seen as a 'lamb' of sorts, quiet and small. Both have been paralleled to each other a countless amount of times in the show, being referred to as two sides of the same coin (Jesus???).
They both have a father that steps in and takes care of them in place of their real father (Hopper/Joseph) and a kind mother (Joyce/Mary) that cares deeply for them (maybe i shoudlve put joseph and mary first, eh). They are both seen in multiple self-sacrificial scenes and have deep empathy for others. Not to mention the visual parallels, brunets with Jewish features.
In the leaks, we see El fighting with Vecna and Will getting Vecna'd. Vecna also seems to tempt Will with the "We will do great things together, William." line (I think that's the quote idk im not checking). I think we'll see a parallel of when Jesus was tempted in the desert and Will being tempted by Vecna.
This has been said before, but Will could join Vecna's side for a while, or at least consider it, considering their hatred of time and similarities (both being 'different' and never fitting in because of the UD). Obviously (or not maybe the person reading this have a life), Henry and Will are going to parallel Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker. Both having similar backstories but one turned out bad and the other good.
Also another thing, Holly could also play the part of Eve (or maybe Jesus?? unlikely but yk) in S5, as we have seen in the leaks with Henry/001/Vecna taking on the role as Mr. Whatsit (holy moly this guy has too many names).
idk maybe i'm tweaking but I thought it was pretty cool, I might go back and rehash some things when i'm not high and during a reasonable time. Hopefully this hasn't been said before lol.
