🔹 Betekenis : Als men een gelegenheid voorbij heeft laten gaan, keert deze niet meer terug. / Niet zeuren over gedane zaken !

🔹 Varianten : Als hadden geweest is, is hebben te laat. / Gedane zaken nemen geen keer.

🔹 Literal translation in English : When "had" comes, "have" is too late. / traduction littérale en français : Quand "avions" arrive, "avons" est trop tard. / wörtliche Übersetzung auf Deutsch : Wenn "hatten" kommt, ist "haben" zu spät. / traduzione letterale in italiano : Quando "avevamo" arriva, "abbiamo" è troppo tardi.

Some Dutch proverbs and their meaning for you:

Het oog is groter dan de maag

The eye is larger then the stomach

Meaning: To get/take more food then you can eat  

Een sloddervos zijn 

To be a ‘Sloddervos’

Sloddervos does not have a translation. Slodder does not even have a definition in Dutch. Vos means Fox. 

Meaning; To be messy / a messy person 

Uit je doppen kijken 

To look out of your “caps” 

The word ‘doppen’ means (bottle) caps, but in this proverb it means eyes

Meaning; To look out (watch it!) (often yelled in traffic)                      

Wat u niet wilt dat u geschiedt, doe dat ook een ander niet  

What - you (formal)- not - want - that - you (formal) - happen (to) - , do - that - also - an - other (someone else) - not

“Geschieden’ is an old, rarely used verb, meaning “to happen”

Het geschiedt u > It happens to you 

Meaning: What you do not want happening to you, don’t do that to someone else
