Inspired by the @npfl combine I decided to try out a few of the tests. One of which is a conditioning effort with five rounds of 12 power cleans and 6 shoulder to overhead. Each at 165lb. There is no one best way to train for such an event. However here are a few… 1. Simply perform the effort, as I did, as written. The athlete learns if nothing else the intensity needed to complete the effort. 2. Perform the effort with a heavier or lighter weight. Making the workout more anaerobic in one instance and more aerobic in another. 3. Break the effort into component parts to create a series of highly intense intervals (HIIT). This has even greater potential than the first two methods in preparing the athlete for the effort as it's been shown HIIT produces both aerobic and anaerobic improvements superior to those of sustained efforts.
