Ten Pics that remind me/make me think of Enneagram Type 4s
Enneagram Type 4
An overview of an enneagram type. Not an expert. May change later.
___
Type 4
Center: Heart/Image/Shame
Other triads: Reactive, Withdrawn, Frustration
Basic motivation: Create a unique identity, make personal significance
Basic fear: Being forgotten, not feeling important
Wings: 4w3, 4w5
Disintegration/stress: 2
Integration/growth: 1
___
Traits
- Strengths -
In tune with emotions
Expressive and creative
Have an eye for beauty/aesthetics
Empathetic
Tries to be genuine, be themselves
- Weaknesses -
Can be moody and overly sensitive
Self conscious
Feel defective
Can be self pitying
Focus too much on themselves
___
Wings
- 4w3 -
The 3 wing adds a spit of spark to the typically melancholic 4 core. A bit more outgoing and friendly. May feel envious of others more often. Want to have validation and praise for their unique accomplishments. 3 wing helps them set goals, which are usually aligned with expression and creativity. 4s want to make a mark/influence on the world and 3 wants to be successful in making that mark. They want their uniqueness to be seen.
- 4w5 -
4 and 5 are both withdrawn types, so it's no surprise 4w5s are often introverted and/or private. Independent type who does what they want. Can intellectualize their emotions. Can get lost in their own world as they are focused on building their creativity and skills rather than focusing on relationships.
___
Disintegration: 2
Disintegration to 2 can cause a 4 to lose sense of their independence, instead throwing themselves into relationships. They want to be rescued somehow without putting much effort into building genuine connections. Very clingy and intrusive.
Integration: 1
Integration to 1 can cause a 4 to become more objective and more bold to take actions towards their desired goals and dreams. They learn not to be trapped in their self absorptions. They learn to control/balance their feelings so they are less moody. Integrating 4s have a desire to contribute to the world and make a better difference rather than simply only doing things they want whenever they want.
___
Subtypes of 4
- Sp 4 -
Sp 4 is the most internalized and least expressive about their pain and suffering compared to the typical 4. They learn to deal with it by themselves. They want to be recognized and accepted for being so "tough" for not complaining about going through heavy things. They may instead look for those who are visibly suffering in order to provide empathy and help for them.
- Sx 4 -
Sx 4 is the most expressive and intense. They want to be their most authentic selves and chase after their desires. They are very deliberate in trying to attract others with their unique and genuine character - with the way they dress, act, any sort of self expression, they need people to like their uniqueness. They can be more assertive with their needs, which can be used to cover up the actual sadness they have inside. They have a deep need to prove they are worthy.
- So 4 -
So 4 is the most connected to their suffering and will openly show this. They compare themselves a lot to others and feel shame for not having the traits they envy. They want to be accepted but fear their flaws will drive people away. Inferiority and victim complex. There is a lot of inner conflict of wanting to be original and different but fearing having something wrong with them and longing for others acceptance.

Schitt’s Creek | David Rose: ISFP / 4w3
I’m trying very hard not to connect with people right now.
Judging Functional Axis: Fi/Te
Even though he’s rarely forthcoming with his expression of them, David is the most emotional and sensitive out of all the Roses (he doesn't verbalize his concerns about Alexis travelling all over the world and leaving him behind until years later in Schitt's Creek.) He needs the time to process his feelings at his own pace, refusing to rush them and getting overwhelmed when he doesn't get the time to do this. First, he runs away from Schitt's Creek, when he realizes they can't sell the town. Later, he withdraws from everyone when he finds about Patrick and his fiancée. David has trouble separating feelings from reality—he needs things to be as he wants them to be, refusing to compromise authenticity for commercial success. It affects the business at Blouse Barn, and then, at Rose Apothecary. Sometimes, he takes decisions all on his own and forgets to consider their impact on others (he decides he and Patrick should move back to New York without asking for his opinion.)
Perceiving Functional Axis: Se/Ni
David is all about the aesthetic of things. He has an eye for design and detail that’s unmatched by anyone around him. He even ran an art gallery back in New York that produced the most unconventional art. David has a specific vision for how things should look, and this vision permeates every part of his life: from everything to what he wears, to how he transforms the Blouse Barn to an upscale boutique, and how he designs Rose Apothecary. David goes all his adult life without knowing or suspecting Moira and Johnny were responsible for his success. Occasionally, he can make rather impulsive decisions. For instance, he suggests Patrick see other people without setting ground rules or thinking about what that might entail.

enneagram 4s be like “rip to the rest of the world but im different”
"What, you're insecure so you think you're special?"
@blurple121497 on 6s mistyping as 4s
My grandmother died and I’ve been keeping tabs on my emotions and noting how certain things affect me and:
I don’t know whether it’s an INFJ, 4w3, or Scorpio rising thing, but I’m usually really fine and comfortable being the topic of discusion because I’m hashtag really fucking conceited. But, when people look at me with these eyes of pity, I want to scream at them. I want to yell “don’t fucking look at me like like I’m some limping animal”.
An argument for Tony Stark as an Enneagram type 4
I have seen a lot different typings for Stark, but I truly believe that he is a type 4. Here’s why...
First let’s look at what the enneagram institute has to say about this type.
“Fours are self-aware, sensitive, and reserved. They are emotionally honest, creative, and personal, but can also be moody and self-conscious. Withholding themselves from others due to feeling vulnerable and defective, they can also feel disdainful and exempt from ordinary ways of living. They typically have problems with melancholy, self-indulgence, and self-pity. At their Best: inspired and highly creative, they are able to renew themselves and transform their experiences.”
Tony Stark exhibits a lot of these characteristics. He is an incredibly creative person who literally renewed himself in the first Iron Man film, and continued to transform over the course of the MCU.
This type has a tendency toward self-indulgence and substance abuse. We witness a lot of self-indulgence from Tony in the earlier MCU films, and while it is not as prevalent in the MCU as it is in the comics I feel that Iron Man 2 has the best representation of this aspect of his personality.
At unhealthy phases this type tends to push away people much like Tony pushes Steve away during and after the events of Civil War. It’s hard for him the deal with the guilt he feels and is easier for him to blame another person then push them away.
Let’s talk more positive now. 4s are profoundly creative which Tony shows time and time again with his inventions. They want everyone to see the possibilities that they see which is why he is always living larger than life with tall towers and press conferences and impressive tech. He is very emotionally open and doesn’t B.S. anyone.
Most of all, he has a very distinct personality. He is someone you would never forget meeting. He has created an identity for himself that makes him feel like he has personal value, and any time it wasn’t enough he would adapt and that’s what being a type 4 is all about.
