Lolol people who hate fake disorder cringe hate it because they know they're the type of person who belongs on there. What's so fucking bad about a community calling out and correcting people who are badly faking a disorder to the point of misinformation being more widely accepted than real facts? DID is probably has the worse end of the stick in recent years. Even though depression was widely faked and people still don't understand it, that wasn't good enough for some people. Not special enough because well everyone has it now!! But look how history has repeated itself lul
First, TLDR; most people don't even know what goes on there and since the narrative is "you'll get posted just for being disabled" even people who do have the disorders will feel sympathetic and rally against groups like fdc because "if my community members get posted simply for being disabled, it could have been me. How long until it is me?".
Some people do ignorantly post things that shouldn't be there but the narrative surrounding fdc/sc magnifies that 300x and extends it to the entire groups to paint them as oppressive cartoon villains and monsters who are incapable of reason.
I actually don't think most are looking at it like "they're posting people who act 'cringe' like me"- because most aren't looking at all. Some inevitably hate on these groups to validate their presentation despite it possibly being inconsistent with (insert disorder). But most of the hate towards fdc/sc seems to be due to how communities (not just cdd communities bc fdc is more broad than sc) play telephone about it and use emotionally charged language and sometimes anecdotes that are very much not true. Like before I'd ever looked at the sub to see what it was like, I'd heard so much and they were painted like cartoon villains- like the degenerate cringelords of 4chan lolcow kiwifarms miserable cheeto dust fingered neurotypical ableist sadistic assholes that live for other peoples' suffering. Stereotypical bully redditors. A few are, the rest hate and clown on those ones.
But it's framed in such a way that you feel inclined to take peoples' word. The shitty part? Sometimes, they're right- sometimes people are ableist to be ableist and ignorantly post someone on the basis of something that's literally fine and not a red flag. I think in those cases, fdc/sc can look and go "yeah if we claim to advocate for people who are legitimately disabled, we need to do better". But the most believable lies and false narratives have some truth to them so it's easy to say every member eat sleeps and breathes ableism. I remember someone's seizure getting posted because it "looked weird" and the post was eventually removed but not before MANY people were like "hey seizures actually don't always look like having spasms on the floor" and the op ignored them. Like EVERYONE was defending the person being posted. That is not what most outside of fdc would expect, they would expect them all to point and laugh at how "dumb and fake" it looked. But people went to bat for them.
I remember being horrified by some of the things I heard about fdc/sc initially. I heard multiple times that they "encouraged and celebrated suicide" (if someone killed themselves because they were posted there, I guarantee you it would never be celebrated, that's fucking insane), went out of their way to track down, dox and harass people (that is highly frowned upon, also against the rules and why the mods take censoring usernames very seriously), and most egregiously, someone more recently told their followers that the community is full of human traffickers (I made a post about it at the time). Their reason was that they were told that someone there once offered to pay someone with a cdd to post there. I don't know how that would have worked or what they would have possibly had to offer that was worth monetary reimbursement. However I'd like to know who is paying people to make content there because my dumb ass has been doing it for free all this time.
They said it was exploiting disabled people and is considered trafficking on that basis which I can only see as intentionally twisting the narrative to smear people and weaponizing trauma (categorizing people in a literal subreddit as the same types who cause DID to develop)- especially when they admitted never looking at fdc/sc and going by word of mouth. So people just tell each other "these groups are full of sick abusive fucks who WILL hurt you. Stay away for the sake of your mental health" and then the rest of what you hear is whatever narrative anyone wants to push. They'll just say "a friend of a friend of a friend said they were sent to the hospital by fdc" and people will take their word. After all that's your community, and you struggle with (insert condition) too so you're gonna believe them when they say they were unjustly targeted.
But most members genuinely don't fit that villainous caricature and a lot of them have one or more of these disorders or enough proximity to them to feel personally affected. In fact I'd say most of fdc/sc appears to be neurodivergent, mentally ill, and/or disabled in some way or another and most aren't able bodied neurotypicals. You don't know at first glance, because it's against the rules (in fdc) to explicitly state "I have x disorder" or "my friend has x disorder". You can say "some people with this have said" or just state your opinion like "I'm concerned because this doesn't make sense, and this is why and what it normally looks like to my understanding" and people have an unspoken understanding that you can't say it's you or a friend or family member etc. But since that understanding is unspoken, from the outside it does look like hundreds of neurotypicals telling disabled people how to live because they're uncomfortable about disabled people existing. Again, sometimes it is that, and when it is nobody's really rallying with them, I see a lot of solidarity against people like that. It usually isn't as simple as people want it to be. If people there are just people, not trolls or lolcows, some even having these disorders, then you're not talking about a symbol or just a villain anymore.
That said, the narrative is that fdc/sc "hates disabled people". When really, while some take it too far, most don't like the misrepresentation of disorders, the way that people bastardize it when it ruins lives. Sometimes it goes too far where it becomes "they said they were happy and that's against the rules of being disabled" but we can acknowledge when it goes too far and also that it's often not coming from a place of oppression, but rather shared frustration by those within or with proximity to those communities.
And I wouldn't be shocked if a number of the horror stories come from people who want to smear everyone there because when they're all Disney villains, nothing they say is credible. And if nothing anyone there says is credible, then if you get posted it's a targeted attack on your condition (or what you believe/claim to have) and disabled people as a whole by people who are miserable and incapable of reason. I can't stand by or condone everyone there, in fact I started posting because I shared a lot of similar grievances with the misrepresentation of disorders and didn't agree with how many people conducted themselves and spread ignorance. But I don't think either side should be flattened into a one-note caricature. Because there is valid criticism against fdc but shit like "they celebrate suicide!" is an unfair mischaracterization.
I would say that similarly, (not saying you said this or are being unreasonable) "they're all spoiled brats faking for attention!" is also an unfair mischaracterization that a lot of people throw at the other side though. Both sides tend to flatten the other into a caricature because it's easier that way. It's easier if these are all rich white kids that grew up in a loving home but even when someone does fake, that behavior has documented links between trauma and attachment so those are often at the center. Attention seeking indicates an emotional need that isn't being met. It's easier if fdc and sc are hate groups (actual term I've seen used to describe fdc/sc) that want disabled people dead
