I love this story, and am happy to have it in my collection. That said, I can tell you that this binding was very eventful.

I think I will change my name to Not Perfct bindery. The two volumes of this book took me a long time, because I was buried in workload. It seems that every day I picked up this binding project, I made some mistake. The worst one was sewing the signatures too tightly so it was impossible to round the spine. Another mistake I made while cutting the fabric, as can be seen, the covers were in different proportions. This is my 60th binding; and I must learn that in excess of confidence lies the danger.

My edition of Modern Love by Tacky Tiger- This is an amazing Drarry story that can be read for free on AO3.

What did I achieve? I accomplished several things with this binding, the one I'm most proud of is that I managed to rounded and backed the spine. Also, I used linen to make the book cloth and I think it turned out well. It's the first time I applied HTV on linen, and I liked the result. I haven't placed the title and the author on the spine yet, I think I will do it by gluing a label. What can I improve? The end paper didn't look good, in fact, I'm thinking about reapplying it.

I must improve the backing, as I think I hit the block too hard with the hammer. Oops! What should I learn? I'm not sure when to guillotine the text block so that it looks good when I curve the spine. I sew it's before curving it, but since I use a looser stitch, I don't know if it will be alright.

The book feels good in my hands, the texture of the linen is nice, and the size is comfortable. The curved spine looks beautiful on my shelf.

Another addition to my "not perfct" collection. As always, I like it with all it's imperfections.

I read this story in Ashwinder eons ago and have always liked it. (If you know what Ashwinder is, you've been in this fandom a long, long time).

Bound in the south of the world. Cardboard cover, exposed spine with French stitching.

I liked the idea of using shells and stones slowly worn by the sea. I wanted to place them as stepping stones, as a way to make reference to the time jumps Hermione makes in this fic. The photos are not very good, but they show the beautiful place where I was able to make this book. The shells and stones were collected by me in an area where pre-Hispanic people used to shellfish (obviously, I did not collect stones from that time, but newer ones).

During the weekend, I bound Pride or what goeth before a fall by Toodleoo. Tood's pen is witty, smart and funny, with a good use of irony and humour. I miss her, we were friends for long, and we have the opportunity to meet each other when she travelled. We lost contact during the pandemic. That's why I want to have one of her stories on my bookshelf as a way to honour her.

Toodleoo has always been a lot of fun to read, and this story is no exception. In this one, Hermione Granger, considers herself an excellent evaluator of the character of others. Guided by a series of stereotypes, she decides that Snape is gay and wants to support him. Thus begins this amusing comedy of errors.

Summary:

When it came to reading people, Hermione Granger was almost always right. How did she miss the fact that Snape was gay?

The binding process: It took some time to bind, as I was rusty from being away from my tools for so long. I had to re made the cover a few times, but I'm happy with the result. The fic is very tongue in cheek and I wish to show that in the design. I didn't have any rainbow like stuff, so I chose a cheerful yellow book cloth. The title had a complicated an imbricated font (the one I for chapter titles), and screwed I up badly while weeding it, so I humbly restarted with a conservative and safer cover design.

ATYD was one of the first books I wanted to bind. It took me two and a half years to finish this typeset. I would abandon it for months, then pick it up again only to realize that I had learned new things, so I would start redoing things I had already figured out. I tend to forget how much I have learned about the craft of bookbinding since 2022. I tend to focus on my mistakes and what I don't know, and I don't see how far I've come.

This weekend I made the book cloth (brown linen, “Carmelite nun” shade, my mum would say). My head cannon sees Remus using it.

I started printing the first of five volumes, but halfway through, the printer started to print the copies with black stripes. My luck! While I'm learning what's wrong with the machine, I've started to foliate the titles and title pages. I hope to finish everything by September! It would be a nice way to start spring.

Working on another fic book! (I'm waiting on a new printer or a trip to staples to print the last 4 pages - bc they're in color, my laser printer is monochrome, and our inkjet monstrosity refuses to use the magenta ink) I haven't sewn the signatures together yet bc I want to add the artwork pages at the end first, but I am making the cover and mocking it up to see how it'll look :)

I haven't really done a square (and rigid) spine outside of a sketchbook and that was still thinner cardstock on the spine, I've mostly done curved cardstock, so this is kinda fun to try ^^

I've had to do a rearrange but now have all my fandom-related paper in one place and room for more. The fact I can now add buddie novels to my physical reading log when I reread them is making me very happy too :D
