Prompt 6 - Ball
@wolfstarmicrofic March 6, word count 345
Sirius had the ball, and he dribbled it past the other dads easily. He and Riley hadn’t practised for nothing.
“Come on, Sirius!” Remus yelled from the side of the makeshift pitch. That had been surprising. Remus had never been into sports before, but something about this little charity match to raise money for a trip for the kids to Scotland had awakened something in him, and Sirius had been reaping the benefits all week.
The goal loomed before him, James grinning toothily at him as he tried to anticipate where Sirius would kick the ball. Technically, James shouldn’t even be playing as Harry had moved up to secondary school, but he was so beloved by teachers and parents alike that he’d been the first called to help set this match up.
“Come on, Pads, I’m getting old here waiting for you to kick the damn ball!” James taunted him. Sirius took a breath and kicked.
He soared too high, and Sirius winced as he was certain it wouldn’t go in, but James had made a mistake. He was in the right spot, but thinking Sirius was going to shoot low. The football soared over the top of his head, ruffling his already dishevelled curls and hit the back of the net.
“GOAL!!!!” Remus screamed from the sideline. “THAT’S MY HUSBAND!” He declared proudly, while Riley quietly moved away from his dad and went to hide behind his Aunty Lily. Sirius smirked, poor Riley.
He was suddenly picked up by the other members of his team as they celebrated his goal. It would be his only goal of the game, and they lost 3 goals to his 1, but the way Remus told it, you’d think he’d scored every goal of the game. One plus of Remus being so proud of him was that they found themselves alone for the night as Harry had wanted to show Riley his new console, and both of them had happily thrown their son at James and Lily and gone home to finish their night off with a bang.
