Grimaldi: Growth Progression

Exploring how Grimaldi’s development progresses.

Finished this at like 4:30AM so there are probably some errors but this is more design exploration.

I’m handwaving the visual differences from the standard Grimmchild by just saying that the uniquely high concentration of nightmares and negative emotions that make up the red Flames that Grimmchildren collect/consume have altered normal development simply through exposure to high levels of what they need to grow. This is also the cause of Grimaldi’s eyes developing that particular red gleam early.

Explanation of Development below the cut.

From top to bottom:

1) First form, standard teeny grub Grimmchild, harmless and more or less defenseless but able to fly. Has a couple of little horn nubs along the back edge of the jaw.

2) 2nd form, after the first round of Ritual flames have been collected for a normal charm!Grimmchild. Grimaldi managed this by traveling alone and hiding in crevices that enemies couldn’t reach. Now he at least has flames to repel foes, but he’s wary of approaching bugs since. Yanno. He’s a child, still, and doesn’t have the life experience needed to tell the difference between a Friendly Bug and... All the Radiance zombies, really. He’ll get it eventually, but “spit fire at anything that can get at me” is currently his modus operandi.

3) Trying his Theater Bug Best to look like a Normal Bug after he sees Ghost going around smacking Radizombies and saving people. He found a discarded Vessel shell and since his horns fit in it he opted to wear it as a disguise along with that ragged scrap of cloak. He essentially floats everywhere even like that, though. And the shell keeps him from easily breathing fire, so it puts him at a combat disadvantage.

4) And then there was a metamorphosis, courtesy of the abundance of ‘food’ around. This is the first time he’s ever picked up a nail so he’s a bit awkward with it. But Legs!! Arms!!! Hands!!!! A new and novel experience - even for Grimm, since this has never happened in the memory of any of his predecessors.
