1) Letters
When the pink plane touched down in the Mushroom Kingdom, Luigi wasn’t sure what he was going to do.
The world had moved forward while his mind was back in the kingdom they’d left hours ago. The last place he’d laid eyes on the beanish prince that had caught and held his attention. Where a rather awkward and heavily emotional failure of a handshake was shared between the two.
Luigi could have sworn that Peasley had more to say than a simple farewell. But it was even more clear that something else was holding him back.
So Luigi had returned home with a heavy heart and a dazed head. The next few days caught in his memories, slowly moving around in a numbed state of his confusion. Leading to his least favorite pastime: his mind running through every bad situation that could have led to that outcome.
What if Luigi had looked too far into what was happening between him and the prince?
Peasley was a prince, he no doubt had to be nice to everyone.
How in the world could a plumber impress someone of royal status?
Why was this so confusing and painful?
Luigi flinched slightly when there was a sudden tap on his shoulder. His dusting cloth dropped from his hands as he turned, causing both he and Mario to follow its descent. Hearing a small ‘plop!’ as it landed on the wooden floor.
“I didn’t mean for you to do that.” Mario said.
“I know.” Luigi mumbled as he reached to pick the cloth back up.
“Are you doing okay? You’ve been out of it for a while.”
The younger twin gave a weak smile, “I mean, nothing so major that you need to be worried about it. Or me. I’m fine.”
“Uh huh…and this wouldn’t have anything to do with the adventure we just had in the BeanBean Kingdom?”
Luigi let out a low hum. Pausing in his cleaning when Mario wrapped an arm around his shoulders. “It’s nothing…”
“You don’t mindlessly clean for nothing.”
“I’m just thinking.”
“You mean overthinking.”
“...Maybe.”
“Do you want to talk about it?”
The cloth was intentionally put down this time, now resting on the shelf, so Luigi could give his full attention to Mario. “Do you think it’s stupid to think that there was something between Peasley and I?”
“Stupid? No. Why would you say that?”
“Because, for all the interactions I had with him, it all built up to basically nothing. Even to the moment we were leaving, I thought he would have said something. But he didn’t, so…”
Mario gave a gentle smile, “Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Because I didn’t know what to say! And I didn’t just want to assume. I’d like to avoid situations where I put my foot in my mouth.”
“Well, maybe Peasley felt the same way but didn’t make a move because you didn’t do anything? There wasn’t a lot of down time while we were there for you two to talk.”
“So it might have just been a fleeting moment?”
“Can’t really be fleeting if you’re still focused on it a week later,” Mario gently poked Luigi’s nose, “Do you feel like that flame of interest is dying down?”
“No. But I also worry that it’s now a panicked forest fire that seems to be lighting all the worries I kept hidden before.”
“Wow, okay, slow down there poet. If you’re so sure about this, why don’t you reach out to him now? Snail mail is better than nothing.”
Luigi bit his lower lip. “I could try that… Writing a letter might even help clear my thoughts about this.”
“Yeah, there we go! Now you’ve got a plan to work with. A much better way to use your time.”
The well crafted plan wasn’t as helpful as Luigi had originally been hoping for. With the hours that passed, and the piles of crumpled up paper growing larger at his feet, the very slight hint of bravado disappeared seemingly faster than it had arrived. Eventually reaching the point where his forehead was pressing against his desk in silent defeat. The green-dressed hero letting out a low groan.
“So,” Mario cautiously peeked into his brother’s room, “how’s it going?”
“It’s somehow so much worse.” Was Luigi’s muffled reply.
Walking closer, Mario picked up a few pieces to read over. “Well…how about you get some sleep? You’re still stressing over this too much, a new day will bring new perspectives.”
Luigi’s head rolled over to rest on his side, better to face Mario as he gave a weak, “Why is this so hard?”
“Because you clearly want this, and great things need to be worked for.”
How painfully true that was.
The following morning wasn’t met with much success either. At the very least, Luigi had stopped trying to use overly flowery words and just focus on the straightforward facts he could use. Which turned into a worry that he was now writing too dull.
Love confessions shouldn’t be boring.
Relief arrived late in the afternoon when Mario carried in the daily mail. Going to Luigi’s room, finding his brother throwing away another piece, panic set in his eyes. Placing a letter down on the desk, where Luigi had planned on putting a new piece of paper. Only to pause at the new item appearing before him.
“What’s this?” Luigi weakly asked, picking up the rather thick envelope.
“A letter.” Mario replied back.
“A letter?”
“Addressed to you. From the BeanBean Kingdom.”
That got Luigi to perk up. Eyes wide as he scrambled to flip it over and tear open. Mario leaves at this point to allow his brother to read the perfectly folded letter in peace.
‘Hello Luigi,
I do hope this letter is finding you well.
I would first like to apologize for how, no doubt, strange this letter will be written. Full honesty on display, I wasn’t really sure how to write this. Emotions are rather fickle things, aren’t they? Even more so when it’s put on paper, when written words can’t really deliver the feeling you’re wanting to convey. There’s also a struggle when they involve someone new.
It’s such a confusing rush, isn’t it? A rather confusing event.
Apologies, I warned you this would be a strange letter. I’ll attempt to not ramble further in this discussion.
I’m sure my attitude towards you during our farewell was a little strange. I’m aware I was standoffish towards you, and I’m sorry for that. As truthful as I can be, I was grappling with some of those pesky emotions. I probably wasn’t as collected as I’m sure you could tell.
If I’m allowed to bare my thoughts where, I do believe I developed deep feelings for you. Ones that have only seemed to steadily grow now that we’ve been separated.
You have been the only person I’ve been able to think about for the past few days.
It took me far too long to figure out what that truly meant.
If you’re feelings
I very much hope this rather weak confession has not turned you away.
If my view of our interactions were not widely off, as I hope they’re not, I ask that you return your response. However, if you don’t reciprocate, then I do wish you good health and prospects for your future.
I would
I can’t remain in this
Your letter would provide some comfort no matter
I look forward to your letter.
At Your Service
Prince Peasley
Luigi wasn’t sure how long he sat at his desk. Re-reading the letter over and over again. His look of surprise slowly turned to a wide giddy smile. Feet tapping against the ground as he pulled the parchment close to his chest. Allowing a few more minutes of silent excitement before placing the confession aside to write his own.
From the kitchen, Mario turned his attention to the stairs as his brother practically flew down them. Getting a brief glance of a sealed green envelope in hand before Luigi was out the front door. Shrugging his shoulders, Mario turned back to the paper. Not looking up when the front door opened once again, nor when there were quick footsteps drawing closer. Smiling softly as Luigi’s arms wrapped around him.
“Lots of emotions happening right now?” Mario asked calmly, Luigi silently nodding into his shoulder.
It only took a few days for Peasley to send another letter. Words seemed to overflow with so much affection it was almost too much to Luigi. Almost, because the human seemed to keep him afloat by the absolute joy he was feeling. More than happy to spend a few hours that day reading the reply over and over again.
Only able to pull himself away from the beautifully written words when he started to write his own letter.
So began the exchanging of letters, with each exchange alleviating Luigi’s worries.

2) Holding Hands
Peasley didn’t turn away from his reflection hearing his bedroom door being knocked on.
“Prince Peasley?” Lady Lima’s voice called out from the other side, “Our guests are going to be arriving in the next few hours.”
“I’ll, um, be out in a moment.”
“You’ve been in there all morning.”
“Just…” Whatever excuse Peasley was about to give, it caught in his throat. His hands that had been fusing over his hair fell to rest on the vanity.
Peasley paid no mind as the bedroom door was slowly opened. Lady Lima made her way in, placing a hand on the prince’s shoulder to offer comfort. Giving a small smile in the mirror.
“You look wonderful as always, my dear.”
Flushing softly, Peasley’s eyes turned downwards towards his hands. “My hair’s not lying correctly today. It’s…annoying me.”
Lady Lima’s brow rose at that comment. But she kept her initial thoughts to herself as her own hands gently pulled at the yellow strands. “You seem perfectly put together, just as any other day.”
“But this is not just any other day.”
The quiet words caused a chuckle to escape from the lady-in-waiting. “I’m sure Luigi is just as excited to see you.
That got Peasley’s face to fully erupt into a deep blue. Said prince standing quickly to properly face the other. “I- No- It’s just, the royal and esteemed members of the Mushroom Kingdom will be arriving. This will be the first time where they’ll just be visiting. No dangerous missions. It’s important we’re our best.”
“Alright, well, let me offer you a few comforting words.” Lady Lima started, wrapping an arm around Peasley’s own. Slowly leading him away from the mirror and out of his room.
“First off, this is only their second time visiting. You’re making it sound as if we’ve had them over numerous times to fix some issue. Building from that, we have a strong enough connection that ‘appearing perfect’ means nothing to them. They’re all very reasonable people, wouldn’t you agree?”
Peasley frowned softly, “...Yes.”
“And lastly, they are here as our guests to enjoy themselves in our lands. It will do you no good to worry about the smaller details as they’ll be more enamored with the whole experience. Being in the presence of wonderful people to deepen our connection. Wouldn’t you say that sounds more reasonable?”
Biting his lower lip, Peasley reached up to run a hand through his hair again. “...Do you really think Luigi wouldn’t mind?”
“Of course not. He’ll just be excited to see you. Brilliant hair and all.”
“Messy brilliant hair…”
“Oh, hush you. Now, come along, we need to make sure we’re ready to meet them at the airport.”
Peasley’s nerves returned tenfold upon hearing that. “H-How close are they?”
“A few hours away, but there are some things we should check on. Majority of the work has been handled, but it’s good to double check.”
“Oh…I was supposed to help.”
“Your mother was able to handle everything just fine, this wasn’t her first visiting kingdom to prepare for. Nothing to worry about. I will add, it would be best to now show up empty handed.”
Flustered, Pealsey turned to his caretakers with a frantic look. “W-What? What should I do? What do I bring?”
“...Peasley, my dear, your roses.”
“Oh! Oh, right, I-I can handle that.”
Lady Lima couldn’t help but shake her head as Peasley raced off towards the garden. “That child…I thought I was done with romantic drama.”
Even with Lady Lima’s words and a bouquet of roses in hand, Peasley still felt nervous. Thankful that the large array of flowers was somehow able to hide how his hands were shaking. Heart racing as he watched the pink plane with the Mushroom emblem on the side land on the long runway.
Peasley couldn’t help but smile when Luigi descended the steps last. While his mother greeted Peach and Mario, the prince went directly to the younger brother. Who offered his own excited smile to the approaching prince.
“Hello, Luigi.”
“H-Hello, Peasley. Thank you for the invitation back to your kingdom. I’m excited to see what’s here without any dangerous threat attacking us.” The human sheepishly laughed.
“Well, I’m very happy you agreed to return. I have enjoyed exchanging letters, but having you here in person is far more enjoyable.”
“R-Really?”
Peasley smiled softly at Luigi’s look of surprise. “Of course. Oh, before I forget, these are for you.”
Probably with more force than was necessary, Peasley offered the bouquet of roses to the other. Luigi was a little taken aback. But the surprise quickly fell away when the hero in green let out a gasp of glee. Taking it with a wide smile, being cautious as he did so.
“P-Peasley…these are beautiful.”
“Yes, well,” the beanish prince cleared his throat, “I was told it was important to bring a gift. Bring you a gift, especially since…”
Both had their cheeks deepen in color, eyes turning away in slight embarrassment from the situation hanging before them. Peasley recovered first, clearing his throat and whispering out, “Um, I know we’ve discussed this through letters. But…would it be bold of me to assume that… Are we…”
“Dating?” Luigi whispered, shoulder rising up to his burning red ears.
“Yes.”
“I would like to be with you. Like, we’re- you know.”
“Like we’re dating?”
“Yes, because we are, right?”
“Y-Yeah.”
There was a pause between the two before they both started laughing. Peasley quieted his own behind his hands while Luigi hid in his bouquet.
“G-Goodness, we are hopeless, aren’t we?” Peasley eventually breathed out.
“Yeah, guess so,” Luigi beamed, “Have…you told anyone? About us?”
“Only Lady Lima and my mother. What about you?”
“Mario and Peach… But I think Daisy and Toadsworth know, Peach had been more than a little excited when I told her. She might have spilled it to those two. Considering Daisy practically tackled me in ‘congradulations’ a few days ago.”
“Well, I don’t want to put pressure on you with this. We can tell my kingdom when you’re fully ready to.”
Peasley felt himself tense up when Luigi, rather easily, wrapped a hand around the prince’s own. Even going so far as to intertwine their fingers. The beanish prince looked over with wide eyes as Luigi partially hid behind the bouquet.
“I don’t mind telling everyone now, if you’re okay with that?”
Peasley’s look of surprise shifted to one of an eager smile. Stepping closer to press his forehead against Luigi’s. Both ignoring the rather loud cheers of approval from the surrounding citizens.
“I’m perfectly okay with showing you off.” Peasley sighed happily.
Luigi offered a small chuckle back, beaming.

3) Cuddling
It had been a stumbling progress forward the first few months in their relationship. A clear attempt from both to not cross any unspoken boundaries, trying to find even ground, and finding a workable balance between their personal and work lives that ran parallel with their partnership.
Even if Peasley wanted to spend every second of every day with Luigi, he knew that would just be selfish. He couldn’t keep the hero to himself.
Due to their vastly different lives and the miles between them, Pealsey was thrilled whenever they could find moments together. Granted, far and few in between, but wonderfully special nonetheless. At the beginning of their relationship, they both tried to squeeze in as many activities as they could.
Which eventually became a troubling task. Something Luigi caught quickly. Even with how thrilled they were to see each other, there came a point where there was nothing new to show off to the other. A new unspoken worry of ‘what are we supposed to do next?’ hovering over him. With Luigi wondering if there was nothing exciting to provide, would the prince become bored with him?
It was Peasley who made the suggestion of just remaining ‘home’ to relax.
“A-Are you sure?” Luigi asked, “I just…I don’t want you to be…”
“Bored? Luigi, I’m not saying I don’t want to go see more of your home and kingdom. But I also wouldn’t mind a day, or even a few days, where we can just…sit and talk.”
“Really? Just…stay?”
“Just stay and enjoy each other. Our time together doesn’t need to be jam packed with so much in order for it to be interesting or important.” Peasley didn’t miss the way Luigi became flushed. The prince reached out to gently take the other’s hands. “We can enjoy each other’s company without other outside stimuli.”
“...You sure?”
“Absolutely.”
After that, it became a common scene to find the two claiming the largest seat in the living room or in one of the many resting chambers the BeanBean castle had to offer. At first, sitting together on the same piece of furniture with some space between them. Said space shrinking as time passed to eventually reaching the point of comfortably laying against each other.
The more time they spent together, the more together they became. Soon finding their favorite set up was Luigi acting as a full body pillow and Peasley laying across the human. Legs tangled together, arms warped around each with Luigi running fingers through Peasley’s hair with the prince tucked under the human’s chin. Their time spent talking about everything and nothing, or having the radio or television on to provide some comfortable background noise.
While it wasn’t anything to grand of a gesture, Peasley knew this was his favorite activity.
_____________________________
After a large mission for the Mushroom Kingdom heroes, Peasley made a visit as soon as he could. Frowning softly upon seeing the numerous bandages and bruises covering Luigi, who was clearly in a small amount of pain. No matter how much the human tried to wave the concern away.
Peasley didn’t miss how Luigi flinched, ever so slightly, when the prince reached out to brush a thumb over a wounded cheek. “Oh, my Sprout… Come on.”
Luigi didn’t argue as his wrist was grabbed and pulled back into his house. Directed to the long couch. Going to lay down, only to be stopped by the prince.
“What-”
“Let me take care of you. Just worry about relaxing, okay?”
Peasley didn’t wait for a reply. Turning to click on the television to find something quiet to have as background noise. He practically flopped down onto the couch, shifting to get himself comfortable before patting his legs. Arms out as a silent invitation to the human.
Luigi hesitated slightly before moving to lie down. Sliding up to lay comfortably across the other. Peasley practically clinging onto the other, gently removing the green cap to he nuzzle onto the top of Luigi’s head. The human laughed softly as he buried into the crook of Peasley’s neck, eyes closing.
“You good?” Peasley whispered.
“Mmm…” Was the quite reply.
“Would you like me to talk about my day?”
“Please…”
So he did. Discussing the newest farming issues, the production of some new crops, diplomatic discussions, what other citizens were up to. Anything that came to mind, Peasley would talk about it. Rubbing Luigi’s back with one hand while the other brushed through his brown hair.
He wasn’t sure how long he’d been talking, but during a pause for a breath, Peasley heard gentle snoring. Looking down to find Luigi fast asleep. Cheek squished against the prince’s chest with his left arm hanging off the side.
Smiling softly, Peasley pulled the dangling arm up so it would become numb. Gently pushing back Luigi’s hair back to place a kiss on his forehead.
“Sleep well Luigi…”

4) Sharing a Kiss
Peasley wasn’t sure how they got to this point, but he really wasn’t going to complain.
It had started out as a typical visit. One where Luigi seemed to be a little more nervous than usual. But assured Peasley that, in fact, everything was fine. No matter how many times he was asked. The prince had no reason to truly doubt Luigi, so he tried to push the concern away.
They had spent their morning just discussing whatever topic they could think of. Sharing a few pots of tea until the morning became the afternoon and the conversation switched to lunch. The worry from before came back when Luigi suddenly couldn’t keep eye contact. Peasley putting down his glass with a small frown.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” The prince asked gently.
Letting out a heavy huff, Luigi gave a nod. “I just…wanted t-to show you s-something.”
“Of course, I’d be happy to see. What is it?”
Luigi didn’t reply. Merely stood and offered a hand to a bewildered but amused Peasley. Who took it without question. He was led outside to the home’s backyard, the prince beaming upon seeing the garden once again.
“Luigi, it’s coming along wonderfully. I believe it’s grown a little since the last time I was here.”
“Y-Yeah, I was able to f-find some new produce to grow.”
“Hopefully human friendly?”
“T-That’s what I was told. B-But that’s not what I-I wanted to show you.”
Peasley’s curiosity only grew as he was led towards the back of the garden. The emotion quickly changed to absolute surprise finding a row of rose bushes. Not only that, but they were yellow roses.
“Luigi,” Peasley’s voice was breathless in absolute joy, “Did you…grow these from the rose that I gave you?”
“Y-Yeah, I had t-to get some help from Waluigi and P-Professor E. Gadd. But, yeah, t-they’ve been growing w-well.”
“This is amazing.” Peasley reached out to brush his fingers over the bright petals. He didn’t look away from the full flowers when Luigi joined him. “You never cease to amaze me. You have so many wonders hidden in you Luigi. I can’t even imagine what else you’re capable of-”
As he stood, turning to face the human, Peasley’s words were cut off when lips were quickly slammed against his own. Both parties let out small noises of pain from the sudden sting. The prince was a little confused while Luigi, clearly more flustered now, covered his mouth.
“I-I’m sorry!” Luigi squeaked out, “I’m s-so sorry! I didn’t- That was p-planned out better in m-my head!”
Still a little stunned, Pealsey could only whisper. “You kissed me.”
“W-Well, more of a-attempted to…”
“But…you still…” Peasley laughed softly, practically giddy as his cheeks turned a deep blue. “You kissed me! I can’t believe you- Luigi you are such a surprise!”
Luigi smiled back weakly, still a little nervous. “I mean…I don’t think bashing mouths together really counts…”
“If that’s not a description of a kiss, then what is?” “Peasley.”
“Come on, I admire your bravado! How about we try that again? Taking it a little slower this time and with both of us prepared, yeah?” Peasley smiled at Luigi’s look of shock.
“Really? You…want to try again?”
To prove his part, Peasley reached up to gently caress Luigi’s cheeks. Allowing a momentary pause before pulling the human down. Lips meeting once more, gentler this time, Peasley wrapping his arms around the other. Said prince feeling hands being placed on his hips.
Yeah, not a bad point to reach that day.

5) Date Night
Bring something nice to wear. I’m taking you somewhere on our next visit!
When he’d read that line in Peasley’s last letter, Luigi had frantically run to Mario. So overwhelmed and desperate that he couldn’t find his voice to explain the situation. Eventually handing over the letter for Mario to read over.
“A date?” Mario smiled softly, “Haven’t you two been going out for awhile?”
Luigi whimpered softly.
“Okay, deep breaths, you’re okay. How about we take a seat and you can explain.”
After a few minutes of deep breathing, Luigi was able to squeak out, “I haven’t been taken out on a date before.”
“What? Yeah you have.” Mario frowned as his brother shook his head.
“No, I’ve taken people out. No one’s ever asked me out.”
“Oooh, okay, I see the situation here. Kind of. Are you worried that Pealsey is planning something bad?”
“No, of course not! I just…I feel unsure- No, that’s not right. I…I don’t know…” Luigi frowned at Mario’s laugh, “What’s so funny?”
“You just don’t know how to let others take care of you, do you?”
“What?”
Mario reached out to ruffle Luigi’s hair, pulling him closer to place a kiss on the younger twin’s forehead. “You’re ridiculous. Pealsey cares about you, really cares about you. Let him show you how much. Just relax and enjoy yourself.”
“...Think you can help me pick out something to wear?”
“Of course.”
A few days of panic and overthinking, Luigi was back in the BeanBean Kingdom. Standing before a floor length mirror in the dimmed bedroom. Staring at his pale reflection while he tugged nervously at his dressier outfit. Really wishing he could wear his glove to hide his sweaty hands.
Luigi couldn’t hold back a nervous squeak when the door was knocked on. Attempting to calm down as Peasley peeked his head in.
“Hey, you ready to go?” The prince asked, flickering down to Luigi’s hands.
No doubt noticing they were trembling.
“Um, y-yeah, I think.” Luigi flushed softly as he fully took in Peasley’s outfit. “You look…amazing.”
Giving a small laugh, Peasley walked in to run his hands along Luigi’s shoulder. “As do you, where have you been hiding this little piece?”
Peasley’s smile dropped slightly when he took Luigi’s hands. “Are you alright?”
“O-Of course.”
“Luigi.”
The human sighed softly, shoulders dropping a little. “I’ve…never been taken on a date before. I don’t know why, but I feel…weird about this.”
“We’ve been dating for awhile, I thought-”
“No, no, it’s more of I’ve never really been…Mario says ‘taken care of’. But I don’t know if that fits. It’s just, I’ve always seemed to put the other person first and it was never reciprocated. So…now I’m in a position where the roles are kind of reversed, and I’m not sure…”
Features softening, Peasley pulled Luigi down into a gentle kiss. “You’re…so silly. Only you would be worried about others caring about you.”
Luigi flushed softly, but pressed his forehead against Peasley’s. “I’ve just never had anyone care about me like this.”
“Then allow me to fix that, starting with this date.”
“...I would like that.”

6) Caring for Them
Not every adventure ended with a cheery wave and fond reflection over what they had survived. Sometimes, the farewell was quick so the brothers could be rushed home to heal. As Mushrooms could only be counted for quick solutions, anything further than that needed traditional medical treatments.
Unfortunately, this was one of those adventures. The brothers sent to the medical wing of the castle the moment they arrived back.
As wounds were wrapped and broken bones placed into casts, the overseeing doctor gave their final assessment. “We’ll be able to provide some Mushrooms to help with the pain. But overall, these wounds need to heal on their own. Rushing the process could leave some lasting damage. So they’re going to need to relax and do nothing strenuous until they’re better.”
Upon hearing this, Peach immediately put her foot down on the twins going back to their home. “You’re both down a limb! And you’re not supposed to strain yourself- No, absolutely not, you’re remaining here until being completely healed.”
“We’re just down an arm,” Mario weakly argued back, “We can still move around.”
“Mario, be that as it may, it only takes one of you to get the brilliant idea that two single arms on different bodies can make a whole person. Then we have you both injured with your house on fire because you two tried to cook.”
“...Well.”
And that’s where the argument fell apart.
They were each given a separate room, directly next to each other. But allowed their own space to rest and heal. Eventually Luigi’s brain reminded the healing hero that he was supposed to be visiting Peasley in a few days. Something he was told no, he couldn’t go, the moment he informed Peach. Being told that traveling of any kind was out of the question. The younger twin only relaxed when Peach promised she would send a letter to the BeanBean Kingdom.
While happy that Peasley wouldn't be left to wonder where the human was, it did leave Luigi with a bit of a sour mood. Not liking he wouldn’t be able to see the prince as soon as he wanted.
Said mood disappeared a few days later when Peasley, as casual as ever, entered Luigi’s room. Beaming as he carried in a food ladened tray towards the stunned human. “Good morning.”
“P-Peasley? What are you doing here/”
“I received Peach’s letter about you being injured, and there was no way I was letting you deal with this on your own. So, I decided I would come here and help. Or at least stay for as long as I can and smoother you. Either way, here I am!”
Luigi was still staring in surprise as the tray was placed over his lap. “Y-You didn’t have to. It’s been pretty boring. I’m just…lying here.”
“That’s because you’re not supposed to be moving. But now that I’m here, I’ll help make it less boring.”
“Peasley…”
“Hush you. We’ll get you fed first and then we’ll go for a walk. Or well, you’ll be in a wheelchair while I walk, but you know what I mean. I’ve been wanting to see Peach’s garden.”
Luigi smiled softly as Peasley placed a kiss on the human’s forehead. “You really want to spend your time like this?”
“Caring about you and giving you my full attention? Without a doubt.”

7) Reassuring Your Partner
With both of their public positions, Peasley and Luigi knew they had to be prepared for anything. A calm day could take a sharp turn at any moment. Pealsey attending to his princely duties to Luigi being called away to another adventure. They had to live their lives on the whim.
Which led to Luigi’s current situation. Being left in one of the more private wings of the BeanBean castle to wait for Peasley to come back. The prince needed to leave suddenly when a soldier informed of a rather delicate situation involving trade with a visiting kingdom. Peasley had promised to return as quickly as he could.
That had been in the early afternoon. Now, the door to the library was opening once again as the sun was beginning to set. Luigi pulled away from the book hearing the movement.
“Luigi? Are you in here?” Peasley’s voice weakly called out.
The human quickly put the book away to rush over. Meeting Peasley just as the prince closed the door behind him.
“Are you okay?” Luigi asked nervously, “You sound…tired.”
Peasley merely let out a low hum, melting into Luigi’s hand as it was pressed against his cheek. “I seem to forget how much customer service skills are needed for this role.”
“What happened?”
“Can I collapse onto the sofa first before I start?”
Luigi couldn’t help but laugh softly as he led the way over to the requested furniture. Laying down first to allow Peasley to bury himself into the human. Arms wrapping around the clearly exhausted prince. “So…feel awake enough to tell me what’s going on?”
“Had to explain that size does not equal better.”
“...Which means what?”
Peasley shifted so his chin was resting on Luigi’s chest. “The representative argued that the vegetation has shrunk in size and that we were skimming them off of produce. Completely forgetting that we provide everything by weight and not by size. But they were adamant that we were giving what we promised.”
“Wow, that does sound annoying.”
“I still can’t figure out the mental tactics they had to go through to figure something to be annoyed about. I really wish we could have just kicked them out. But that wouldn’t be ‘princely’ of me, apparently.”
Luigi laughed at Peasley's mocking tone “But you do carry yourself well, no matter the situation. I’m sure you did a wonderful job handling that situation.”
Peasley huffed, “I wish I could feel that confident… I really feel like I’m making it up as I go along.”
“But you make it work! When Mario and I are in a tough situation, where we don’t know a clear way out, we have to make things up as we go. Even when we’re in a fight, which I’m so used to at this point in my life, I can feel a little shaky. I can’t imagine having to talk to someone in a situation you find yourself in daily.”
“I wish I could just fight to a solution.”
“No you don’t.”
“Okay, maybe I don’t. But I do worry what will happen when I do take the throne.”
“You will do just fine,” Luigi gently assured, “You’ll be a natural, and whatever you can’t figure out, you’ll have others to help you. Like Peach, Mario, and me. But I also know you’ll be able to handle anything that comes your way. If anything, today shows you’re willing to work towards a solution. No matter how aggravating it is.”
Peasley smiled fondly as he listened. Letting out a contentful sigh, nuzzling under Luigi’s chin. “You’re too good to me.”
“I’d argue against that honestly. How are you feeling?”
“Better…so much better.”

8) Saying the Positives
Not only did their titles call for their attention to some high stakes situations. But it also puts them in the public eye in a way for everyone to watch their lives. Leading to situations where, sometimes, opinions that had not been asked for were shared.
“Luigi, are you alright?”
Hearing his name, Luigi nervously attempted to hide the magazine he’d been reading from. The human flashing a nervous smile. “H-Hey you! You’re looking great, cozy even.”
Peasley gave the oversized sweater a casual change before giving a confused, “Yeah…sure…”
“Y-Yeah, you ready for our movie marathon?”
“Yeah…” Peasley eyes flickered down, brow raised in concern seeing said magazine poking out from under Luigi’s leg. “Were you reading a gossip magazine? ”
Luigi’s already tense form grew more stuff, smile very strained. “...No?”
“Luigi.”
“I-It’s fine, it’s nothing to worry about. Why don’t we just…” Luigi’s shoulders dropped when Peasley held out a hand, the prince looking expectantly. Letting out a sigh, Luigi handed it over.
Peasley took it carefully, said magazine opened to a particular article. Frowning softly upon reading the headline.
‘Has the BeanBean Prince Settled for Second Best?’
It took everything to not tear that magazine apart the further he read. Having to take deep breaths to keep himself calm as he finished. Casually looking over to see Luigi pointedly turned away, shoulders slumped in silent defeat. Without a second thought, Peasley walked over to the large fireplace. Tossing the magazine into the crackling fire.
“P-Peasley?” Luigi squeaked out.
The prince only turned away when the article started to curl up. Looking back to Luigi with a warm smile. “You don’t really believe that garbage, do you?”
Luigi shrugged weakly, eyes lowering again. “I mean…”
Peasley let out a playful huff as he walked over, plopping easily into Luigi’s lap. Not allowing the human to recover before being pulled into a soft but deep kiss. Luigi gives a small squeak before melting into it. Arms wrapping around each other, staying like that for a few minutes.
Peasley broke away first. Smiling softly as he pressed their foreheads together. “Never, ever, believe that I ‘settled’. I’m over the moon that you chose me.”
“W-Why wouldn't I be? You’re a prince, you…could do better.”
“You’re a hero! You’ve saved other kingdoms, worlds, even the actual universe. You’ve battled against turtles, ghosts, literal gods. You’ve accomplished so much, more than anyone could have ever imagined. Those trashy tabloids will write about anything to stir up drama. Don’t read into it. You’re perfect just as you are.”
Luigi flushed softly, but his smile did grow more confident. Pulling Peasley closer to nuzzle into the prince’s neck. “You’re too good for me.”
“Could say the same about you.” Peasley whispered back, beaming.

9) Wrapping Arms Around Waist
When Pealsey was younger, he dreamed of what it meant to be a prince. Learning about the importance of the role given to him and how he would be able to help his kingdom. Being able to meet new people and visit different kingdoms. He took the potential role very seriously. Truly wondering what he would be able to do once he was older.
Now, however, Peasley craved the moment when he didn’t need to worry over his title. When he could just be ‘Peasley’ and learn more about himself past being a royal title. While he could never fully experience the life of a ‘normal’ citizen, Peasley appreciated the quiet times more than when he was a child.
Peasley was broken out of his musings hearing Luigi’s gentle humming. Sitting at the small kitchen table, the prince looked over to the sink. Where Luigi was clearing up from their dinner, head swaying from side to side in temp with the song he was humming. The window shows a brilliant night sky, a deep black with numerous shining stars, acting as a perfect backdrop. The only light in the home being that overhead, leaving the rest of the house in quiet darkness.
A pleasant warmth grew within Peasley, the prince letting out a contentful sigh. Loud enough for Luigi to hear. Causing him to pause in his cleaning.
“You okay back there?” Luigi asked, voice low so as to not ruin the comfortable quite.
“Yeah…” Was the gentle reply back.
“Okay.” And Luigi went back to cleaning.
Suddenly, Peasley deemed the distance between them too great. He got up and made his way over to the other. Luigi was a little surprised when he felt arms wrap around his waist. Peasley pressing close to nuzzle into the human’s back.
“Hey you,” Luigi whispered, “feeling a little neglected?”
“Hmmm, no, not really. Just needed to hold you right now.”
“Fair, I kind of wanted to be held at the moment.”
Peasley let out a soft chuckle as he closed his eyes. Silently soaking in the warmth as Luigi went back to cleaning.
“I love you.”

10) Saying ‘I Love You’
Luigi paused in his cleaning again, caught in surprise. Eyes wide as his mind caught up with what he’d just heard. “Peasley…”
There was a pause. Pealsey shifted to nuzzle into Luigi’s again before answering with, “I love you.”
Trying to take the rubber gloves off quickly with shaky hands, turning once free. Looking at Peasley with wide eyes, the prince’s cheeks a deep blue. Nervously looking up to Luigi. Shaky hands gently caressing Peasley’s cheeks.
“O-One more time?” Luigi whispered, eyes shining.
Peasley laughed softly, his own hands covering Luigi’s. “I love you, and I will say it as many times as I want.”
That caused both to giggle, wrapping arms around each other. Sharing a few kisses before Luigi lifted Peasley up. The prince laughing softly twirled around before being brought back down to be pulled into another kiss.
“I love you too.” Luigi breathed out.
Both beamed in absolute glee.
Swapping those three words for the next hour, no space left between them.
The day ends by laying on the couch together, falling asleep with the words being whispered.
