We are excited to announce that the East and Central Harlem District Public Health Office will be partnering with Grow NYC in hosting a year-round Fresh Food Box site. The Fresh Food Box is a program that makes locally grown fruits and vegetables accessible and available to community members.

Starting this Thursday, September 3 from 3:30- 6:30 p.m., community members can begin to order their Fresh Food Box at the East and Central Harlem District Public Health Office, located at 161-169 E. 110th Street (between Lexington and Third Avenues). 

Participants will receive the value of $25 of fresh produce for only $12! Cash, credit/debit cards, HealthBucks, and EBT will be accepted

Witness Project of Harlem

The Witness Project of Harlem links women with breast and cervical cancer screenings. This Friday, July 17  from 3 to 4 p.m., the Witness Project of Harlem will be at the East Harlem Asthma Center of Excellence. At this workshop, cancer survivors will openly share details about their diagnosis and treatment to help others confront their fears that cancer brings. Connections to breast and cervical cancer screenings will also be provided.

Shop Healthy Harlem is a program that aims to increase access to healthy foods and engage residents and organizations to support sustainable food retail changes in their community. Shop Healthy started in the Bronx and Brooklyn and is now expanding to more bodegas and supermarkets in East Harlem! 

The photos above show how Shop Healthy Harlem is helping revitalize the Viva produce stand at La Marqueta. To find more places that sell healthy foods, look for a “Shop Healthy Here!” sticker in a bodega near you!

¿Cuida de un niño de 5 años de edad o menos?

El Departamento de Salud de la Ciudad de Nueva York ofrece gratis grupos de apoyo para ayudar a los padres y encargados del cuidado a entender y responder a los sentimientos y conductas de los niños. Estos grupos le ayudarán a:

• Entender y responder a las necesidades emocionales de su hijo • Entender la importancia del apego en el crecimiento y desarrollo de un niño sano • Ayudar a su hijo a controlar sus sentimientos y conductas En cada reunión de grupo se ofrecen MetroCards, refrescos y cuidado infantil.
