Percy

When Percy realised you were sick, he got even more protective over you. He wouldn’t let you go fight or exercise and tried to keep you in your cabin most of the time, even dealing with Mr. D’s lectures.

You couldn’t even fight back when you saw his efforts in making you feel better.

He tried making you comforting (blue) food, and he always told you how his mother always used to make it when he was a young kid.

He’d be so annoying, to be fair, but he would also pamper you a lot, getting you everything you’d ask for, except letting you do anything that would tire you out. You were sick! Let him do it instead! You need to rest!

“Let me get up,” you whined as you struggled to get Percy off of you, “no! No training for today, doctor’s orders,” he hugged you tighter, trying to keep you still. You just struggled more, until you eventually gave up. “You’re not even a doctor” you sighed and he just gave you a cheeky grin, “but I’m your boyfriend.”

Annabeth Chase

She’d stay in bed with you, reading a book, even reading it to you, if you asked so. You just loved hearing your firm girlfriend’s voice when you were sick. She’d gently explain everything her book said to you since it was about complex architecture, if you didn’t understand the chapter well.

She’d also request for you not to do much for the day and scold you if you decide to train anyway. She’d ask you to at least let her help you if she really can’t stop you.

She’d hold you and probably make fun of the way you sound and sleep when you’re sick, just to be mean to you and watch you smile and get mad at her comments.

“Did you actually fall asleep?” she asked, as she finished reading a chapter she got particularly passionate about. She sighed as she got no answer before a smile took over her face. “You look like a duck, a very sick one” she chuckled to herself before closing her book and planting a soft kiss on your forehead before drifting off to some rest as well.

Jason

He would try to keep calm and stay collected, but he’s actually worried as hell. When he saw you all sick and weak, he couldn’t help but think you were dying or something. So he would try to stay close to you, and get information about how you were feeling quietly.

Once you told him you’d get better soon, he calmed down a bit, but he was still worried. You could see how he always kept an eye on you and stopped you from doing anything, just telling you he’d “do it for you”.

He would genuinely do anything you asked him to, and when you started to get better, you might have heard him sigh from relief.

“Your face is hotter than usual,” he says, his sight switching from the wall to your face quickly as he adjusted his glasses nervously. “Yeah, I’m sick,” you answered, and he visibly tensed up. You could see him slowly scooting over to you, placing your head on his shoulder. “I’ll be fine a few days.” He just nodded. “Is that so? I’m glad? Oh, stop. I’ll get it for you.” He put an arm over you and you tried to grab the termometer, and got up to get it himself

Leo

Leo would whine a lot about how you weren’t able to cuddle with him properly, or train with him, or spend time with him. Not that’s gonna stop it. If you told him you’d didn’t want him to get close to you so he wouldn’t get sick too, let me tell you… this boy DID NOT care!!!

He wants to hold you and make you feel better. Hell! He INVENTED a special dish to make you feel better, which is inspired by his mother’s special recipe.

He’d make you watch your favorite shows with him, holding you in your cabin, as he completely ignored Mr D’s scoldings (he asked for Nico’s help to get rid of him. Good thing Nico was his friend, kind of).

If you complained about him being too hot, he would loosen his hold on you (reluctantly) and probably feel a bit bad about it. But what do you want him to do? You’re all sick and cute like this;let him cuddle you!

“Hey, what do you wanna watch?” he asks as he puts the covers over you. You mumbled against his shoulder and he chuckled, “Yeah, I understood that.” He teased you as he held you a bit closer to him. “Can you make me some more?” you asked softly, pointing to the empty bowl. He looked at you happily before nodding, “thank you, Leo”. He kissed your hand as he got up and said, “No need to thank me, amor.".

Frank

Frank would definitely panic at first, getting nervous about how to treat you, especially the first times it happened. He didn’t know what to do since he was shyer early in your relationship.

However, that didn’t stop his protective side from showing.

He would probably be surprised by how frail you looked, and felt an urge to protect you like he never did before. You were a pretty impressive demigod after all, and now you looked so weak and in need of care. Of course he was gonna give it to you.

You appreciated it even more, knowing how shy he would be normally, and took all the love happily.

“Here, I got you something. It’s gonna make you feel better” he says as he handles you some medicine. “Thanks, Frank,” you said and you noticed how he didn’t walk out your room. He looked down and his face was red. He didn’t want to leave. You got up and hugged him, and he hugged you back softly. “Stay here,” you asked, and he nodded, “of course.”

Piper

Piper would be extra sweet to you, bringing you treats and offering to spend the whole day with you, to take care of you. She would accept whatever decision you make, secretly hoping you’d choose her company.

She’d ask you to do something with her, to spend time, and find some excuse to take care of you. She’d also ask if you’re just up to resting, if you said yes, she’d hold you softly as you rest against her. She wouldn’t dare to move.

In a modern AU, just know she'a gonna take a lot of pictures just because she thinks you look cute like this.

She’d probably consume some media as your eyes are closed, or read something, and she feels the happiest she’s been in a while, after everything she went through, to have you just relying on her on your sick days.

“You’re really cute, you know that?” he said softly, as you mumbled in your sleep at the sound of her voice. She chuckled as she tried to keep as still as possible. Her quiet laugh filled the room, other than your soft (or loud) snoring. She sighed happily, and gave you soft scratches, putting you into a deeper sleep.

Hazel

She would spend all of your sick days trying to find an healing spell that wasn’t too rough for your simple cold. Or whatever it was.

However, she’d do everything you ask her to do. Like, if you pleaded her to stop searching for a cure, and just spend some proper time with you, she would leave everything she was doing just to make you happy. Even tho she’d still try to find something when you’re asleep or closing your eyes.

She’d also be kind of shy at first, and wouldn’t make the first move to cuddle you if you didn’t ask first, but she was very happy when you did and she couldn’t help from enjoying herself when she got to hold you close.

She also saw you as someone she wanted to protect in that moment, and now she had you all to herself.

“Hazel, come here.” You whined as she repeated some spells silently. “Wait, I think I found the one.” You just sighed and she stopped reading out loud. “What is it?” she asked quietly.“Just spend time with me, please?” you asked, and she smiled shyly. “Alright, I’m coming.” In a few minutes you were in her arms, and in a few minutes you were out. You wondered how you were feeling so much better after a few hours’s sleep, but you quickly got your answer,

Nico

He would try to act like it was not a big deal (and it probably wasn’t) but he also wouldn’t leave your side. No way he would, genuinely. You’re stuck with him. And you couldn’t feel luckier. THE Nico Di Angelo cared about being with you through your illness, your sweet sweet (and kinda emo) boyfriend.

He would be way sweeter than usual, he’s usually pretty sweet, but he would get not only protective, but even sweeter than normal.

He’d stop you from getting out of your bed, and force to move to his cabin, because it was a “more sterilised place” than your room and you would feel better easier.

You complied, because he was right. And he cuddled you when you asked him to, even tho he tried to hide how happy he was about it.

“Hey, what if you get sick because of this?” you ask as you snuggle against his chest, “then it’d be your turn to take care of me,” you chuckle weekly, as you let out a few coughs. “You’d be insufferable,” you complain jokingly. “I always am.”

Will

Will would honestly be the best AND worst option for this. He would make you feel better immediately and be the most annoying one about it too. Gods, he wouldn’t let you do anything. He’d keep saying everything he was asking you to do was “doctor’s orders”, and not only that, you genuinely had no other choice but to do it.

We all know how annoying Will gets otherwise. You just couldn’t deal with that. And he was very proud about it.

He’d take you to the infirmary until you feel better, and trust me, you’re going to get better fast. He’s putting all of his care on you and he’s not gonna stop until you’re 100% healed.

But, if he were the one to get sick instead, he probably wouldn’t let you do much for him. He’d never really say no to some pampering.

“Will, come on, I’m good already!” He shook his head as he stopped you from getting up, “your nose is still stuffy, no way.” “Ugh… Will, come on.” “Nuh-uh, doctor’s orders,” he insisted, before you complied again “doctor’s orders, my ass” you mumbled, “what did you say?” he asked, even tho he heard perfectly, and you just rolled your eyes and said, “nothing, nothing.” He just laughed at you, and gave you a soft kiss on your cheek.

Honestly great at it and it’s honestly not expected but also sort of expected

Hard to explain

But it’s likely that he just brings you back to the apartment he lives in with sally, Paul, and ofc Estelle because even though he sort of doesn’t want to admit it, he needs help

So (imagining you’re super sick) even if you’re a stubborn one, it’s too embarrassing to act up in front of Sally

Someone who is so caring that she makes soup just for you, checks in on you, gives you extra blankets in case, honestly anything really

This transformed more into a Sally taking care of you than Percy but I’m getting there

One day Sally has to go out for an errand and takes Estelle with her, Paul went off to work or something

Leaving you two alone and you basically a burden/j

Also… free to complain all you want

Now if you’re stubborn and make it difficult for him he will fr mock you

Literally why are you being this way when Estelle behaves way better

She knows everything there is to know- hell, if she didn’t after years of being a demigod and suffering from injuries then strike me down

Well- no actually I take that back

Annabeth doesn’t actually know a lot aside from when she gets sick

Which happens rarely and goes away as quick as it comes

So now she’s here with you all bundled up-

Also, if you try to be stubborn and act like a big baby, she’s having none of it

You will rest and you will eat to consume your meds

I don’t make the rules 😭

She will, however, be pleased if you’re happy to comply and get you back to good asap

Although she does bumble a bit at the start- she eventually learns quickly

Which is to be expected

When she first started to struggle with what do to she’s too prideful to ask for help so she settles on asking you how to do well by you

Then she realizes how stupid (or unwise) it was to act that way and decides to just ask any of the Apollo kids she knows won’t tease her

Which is more than half

Only because she knew you’d get worse

I’d give her a solid 7/10

It’s not any longer because she gets to business and gets you healed pretty quick so 🤷

Grover Underwood

I’d say he’s pretty decent at taking care of you too

I mean he probably knows a lot about herbs and stuff that could help you alongside modern medicine that you’re likely taking

Plus when you can’t sleep for whatever reason (*cough*cough* congestion*cough*) he’ll obviously put that humidifier on but also play you a song

Either to help with sleep or just make you feel better

Really depends

Also we all know he’s a saytr

So he’s likely taking care of you despite needing to be elsewhere

And if that duty calls quickly? He feels SO bad 😭 I’m not even exaggerating

He’ll apologize ten times over and try to make up for it

Instead of getting your sleep and rest it just results in you spending that time reassuring Grover

Which, in your opinion, is a time well spent

Anyways if you’re reluctant to let him take care of you then he’s constantly hassling you to stay resting

Literally got to the point where campers would just see you running by, and see Grover not too behind

Or it’d be you sitting somewhere and Grover trying to convince you why going back would be a good idea

Now, if you’re more than happy to rest and take your medicine?

Him being him, he just ends up helping you heal and recover faster than you normally would’ve otherwise

So honestly? You can try to be stubborn all you want but it’s only going to make you suffer 😭

Not much for him but that’s because besides his nervous energy, he’s probably the best here in terms of actually helping you become unsick

Nico Di Angelo

He’ll try his best to help you out 😭

Which he does a pretty decent job at, all he does is rely on books and what he’s heard from others

So it’s time for Nico to rawdog helping you out because frankly, he’s always been the opposite of a normal person

So, why would he ever get sick?

(Bluds body temperature is probably colder than the Antarctic)

He does the basics like making you drink medicine for your symptoms (e.g. cough, sore throat) and making you soup to the best of his capabilities

If you’re the type of person to be whiny and like to be cared after then he’d sort of tease you for it in his strange little way

Now, if you’re super stubborn and insist on him not helping you-

He takes it personally

Like I’m not even joking

He’ll just side eye you

You’re acting like you weren’t just dying of suffocation before he put the humidifier on a few seconds ago

And he lets that known

So, he asks why you’re being so stubborn and let him spoon feed you‼️

(Only because you ended up being bundled in a blanket burrito and Nico didn’t want to go through putting you in one again afterwards)

Eventually Leo makes you take your medicine because even though he’s all about playing around and stuff, he still likes to care for you

Now, because it’s likely snowing, Leo had to resist and refuse to let you out

You’re already sick, it could get so much worse

But you didn’t listen

Hence you running around like a maniac outside the station yelling as Leo chases you

Afterwards he scolds you but when you point out that fact that he was laughing when he was chasing after you- he shuts up real quick

Leo does realize how boring it probably is for you though so after going back inside he tries to be a source of entertainment for you

He tries to find board games and he luckily does

Which ends with you two moving to the living room (?) or common area

By the time emmie and the other residents return, the tower you built while playing Jenga was sky high and skinny asf

Then Leo crashed it and you both obviously yelled at it

Then Leo got told off for distracting you from resting (although it was done kindly)

Later after dinner, Leo snuck into your room at night and once again began to try to rid you of your boredom

you two began giggling and gossiping in the middle of the night

Then went to bed when someone knocked as kindly asked for you two to quiet down

Leo was embarrassed 💀

Frank Zhang

Surprisingly good at taking care of you

Only saying it’s surprising because I’ve never considered it before

He obviously takes care of your basic needs like meds and just covers you needing anything else like rest or water

If you’re stubborn to actually try to get better- then he’s definitely worried but also confused

Why are you acting this way and also, please just let him help you

Which is honestly sad because even if he’d like to stay by your side for more than a few hours- he really isn’t able to due to praetor duties

I mean it’s a surprise you got a pass on your chores/ duties depending on what your role is

Will definitely feel terrible for having to leave to go do his job but eventually finds someone trusted to look after you

Likely someone indebted to him

(He’d feel a bit sorry for whoever it is if you’re particularly resistful)

Let’s say you actually get sick and there’s no outside forces that can interfere

Frank is a pretty top notch- although a bit anxious - doctor

Likely learned a lot about the healing aspect of Apollo back when being his kid was what Frank wanted most

So he knows a lot from that and is really attentive

After giving you some medicine you had seemingly been knocked out cold so it was natural for Frank to turn down the lights

Before he left the room he decided to give you a kiss on the cheek

You were actually still awake and despite your boyfriends more than accommodating care-

You will be teasing him tomorrow using this instance

Overall I’d give Frank a 9/10

Have you seen her lead the other Roman’s as praetor and even before then ? Yea she’s getting you bundled up and fed

No ifs or buts

This is how she is overall but if you try being stubborn she genuinely doesn’t see why you would be

Also please don’t sneak out to the weaponry or something because she literally CANT give you special treatment 😭

Despite her seemingly tough demeanor, she really is a fool for you

Not actually- but miss girl is smitten with you

So she sort of takes it easy, occasionally finding her voice and scolding you as lightly as she can

She tries her best to treat you but eventually gets advice and help from others in camp who know more than she does

She ofc knows the basics: consume vitamin c, rest, drink medicine, etc

But she can’t be too sure

I also honestly think she’s way better than Nico, because I didn’t include it but he definitely got some wayward damned spirit to help him out

But not her

Not that that’s bad, but she’s definitely more capable

I do think she bumbled a bit

She had ordered some other campers who specialized in healing to help her out

Before then, she had been taking care of you herself

So when they get there and see her sort of make shift stuff- she’s a bit embarrassed

Yknow, if the blush on her cheeks are anything to go by

Because we’ve already established that she’s better than Nico, I’ll give her a 8/10

Best way to say how he is at taking care of you is mediocre

He isn’t constantly attentive but just the right amount that you feel like it’s enough

Esprit he’s busy with the school he’s attending- then he’ll have to sneak out just to see you and take care of you

If school isn’t in session then he’s more than happy to go over and take care of things for you

Like doing chores, cooking food and actually taking care of you

Doesn’t mind all that much if you try to resist being treated because it’s likely that he’s encountered people who are WAY worse

Ik this is him supposed to be taking care of you but I think it’d be so funny that you’re just constantly in and out of consciousness that you only remember small snippets

In which Jason has to fill in for you and all you remember is Jason in the distance

Pretty out of place but the idea of it is so funny to me 😭

Imagine being so kind and your s/o not remembering any of it

THE BEST IM NOT EXAGGERATING

The medicine- eating- cooking part is alright

It isn’t much different from the others averages and not much to take note of in all honesty

But what is really the cherry on top is when after having a mind splitting headache- you’ve finally managed to fall asleep

Being a demigod and all- you immediately hear when Piper enters the room

Each creak the floor board gives continued until Piper has reached the end of the bed

Not that it’s disturbing you in anyway

So there you are snuggled in bed and you feel a weight added next to you where the bed is pushing down

You feel hands massaging your scalp and Piper -knowing how you’ve suffered with head pain- starts to sing for you

It isn’t unknown or unheard of to sing for someone to heal (demigod or non demigod wise)

So when you immediately start to feel better you can feel your would ascending into the heavens

Not actually- because that’d be the opposite affect of the singing but you get what I’m going for

Anyway aside from that she’s really attentive and sweet but I just had that idea come to me strongly idk why

Whoever Reader is dating believes that she has betrayed them (making them the broken hearted and her the fated betrayer) through a misunderstanding/manipulation from an enemy and, unable to kill her, they instead abandoned her upon a monster infested island.

Only to later learn the horrifying truth:

They are the betrayer (by abandoning her to certain death) and she is the broken hearted, and Y/N, judging from the final line, is dead. They do go back to search for her, finding her weapon broken somewhere on the island as well as her personal belongings and a small campsite long since empty, and try to reconcile with the fact that they killed the women they loved. Maybe not with their own hand but by leaving her in an unlivable place alone.

But Y/N is alive.

She just doesn't know who she once was.

Something out there is collecting near dead demigods and saving them, wiping their memories, and using them (I think it has something to do with Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory and mother of the muses, or at least some artifact infused with her power). Some have small memories of their previous lives and all recall their "reaper", the person or thing that killed them. Y/N has parted from one life (as the prophecy claimed she would) and now lives another, using a new name and fighting with new companions, having only a few things of her past:

A gift from her once love and small happy memories of them, and what she thinks is a vision of her reaper, unable to realize that her love and her supposed killer are the same person.

Chapter 9

The aftermath of bombing Jeff’s car causes chaos to ensue

There had been an expectation of tension the day after vandalizing Jeff’s house and blowing up his car.

However, and quite fortunately, it was business as usual, though everyone in the fight club was anxiously waiting to suffer the consequences for aiding and abetting Isabelle's revenge. The absence of recognition of the previous night's events didn’t stop everyone spiraling in the fight club meeting after school.

“Some of us have a different definition of egging,” PJ rolls her eyes. “But if we keep our mouths shut and stay calm we will be fine.”

“They are going to shut us down, aren’t they,” a disparaged Silvie points out.

“We don’t know that…” you try to reassure her.

“Principal Myers will believe anything that Jeff and Tim say. I don’t really see how we recover from this.” Brittany sighs.

Silvie groans, “man, fuck!”

“It’s been real guys” Hazel sounds so defeated, it’s heartbreaking to hear.

“Okay, let's not jump to conclusions. With the… goodbyes.” This comes out as an urgent request.

“I'm going to miss you guys so much,” Hazel says, looking around at each and every one of us, though without acknowledging PJ.

Silvie starts to hype Hazel up for her use of the bomb last night but PJ interrupts. “Wait! Stop!”

PJ tries to plead without showing any weakness. “We don’t- wait no. We don’t know that for sure.”

“PJ, don't be sad because it's over,” Annie tries to reason with her. “Be happy that it happened.” She looks towards the rest of us for reassurance and we all smile and nod in agreement.

“Alright, can everyone calm the fuck down? Please?” PJ demands, having only added ‘please’ to save face. “The club is not over. Josie, right?”

PJ looks expectantly at Josie who just looks down to the ground in defeat.

Isabel decides to put a positive twist on things like she always does. “No matter what, this club has brought me so much. I feel so much… powerful and- mmm- protected.” She had been looking right at Josie, as if she were the only other person in the room.

“I actually did! I practically ran this club for you and Josie,” Hazel shoots back with a fire that you’ve never seen in her before, and damn is that fire hot.

PJ looks like she is about to pounce, so Josie pleads for her to calm down in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.

“You really think that you're the reason that we have this club?” PJ sneers, ignoring Josie.

“Is it? No. But I could tell everyone that if you want,” Hazel threatens, implying that there is some sort of secret she is keeping for the group.

Josie attempts to relieve some of tension but is once again ignored.

“You're really ungrateful. You're so lucky that we even let you be a part of this,” the curly haired brunette snears.

“PJ, you're a liar.” Hazel's statement is assured, not an accusation.

PJ hesitates for a moment trying to find the right comeback. “Yeah… well… you have no friends and a skank for a mom, so.” PJ fires at Hazel, shrugging her shoulders.

Everyone is in utter shock.

Hazel runs out in tears and though you want to comfort her, a rage so strong it could only be created by your love for her takes over.

You bound down the bleachers straight for PJ.

“Who the fuck do you think you are?”

PJ crosses her arms, trying to look tough, but you can see the fear in her eyes. It’s a good opportunity to capitalize on that and get up in her face. That only increases her anxiety.

“I was just being honest,” she scoffs, trying to act like you aren’t scaring her. Her lie is easily seen through by everyone in the room.

But now you are mere inches away from her face, and you ignore the fact that she looks a little turned on.

“Honest? You want to talk about honesty? I’ll be fucking honest with you PJ. First of all, I think you are jealous. Jealous of Hazel. Because she is a good person, people genuinely like her. Jealous of Josie because even though you are a duo she’s more likable than you. Jealous of me! Because I’m gay, but not ugly or untalented, and have been with more girls then you will ever be with in your life. And I’m sure you’re also fucking mad that you can’t have me. PJ is at a loss for words and your lips curl into a devious smile watching her try to collect herself. She’s never been so caught off guard in her entire life. When PJ looks like she’s about to say something you shove her to the ground. PJ curls up in pain. You lean down to grab her face and look her in the eyes. “Don’t you ever talk to Hazel like that again. Or anyone for that matter. I’m capable of far worse than this.”

With that you storm out of the gym, leaving an eerie silence hanging over it.

You start to look around for Hazel with no luck until you hear her voice around a corner. As you approach you hear that she is talking to… Tim?

“So you are one of the founding members of the club?” Tim questions with an unsettling friendly tone.

“Yeah. I didn’t want to start it for the same reasons as Josie and PJ. Wasn’t my idea, I just helped bring it to life.” You can hear in Hazel's voice that she has been crying. It feels like a twisted knife to the gut.

“Now that I think about it, I am very curious why they wanted to start a club like this.”

“To get with the popular girls,” Hazel shares after a moment of hesitation.

This catches Tim’s attention, his eyebrows raising. “What exactly do you mean by that?”

“Josie and PJ wanted to fuck cheerleaders,” Hazel sighs, as if embarrassed by them.

“Fuck ch… fuck cheerleaders? That’s so distasteful,” Tim scoffs, though a cruel smirk is on his face.

Hazel's big eyes are like a sad little puppy. “It is, I just wanted to empower the girls at this school.”

Tim crosses his arms with confidence. “I’m sure you did, Hazel. How about I help you with that? What if you fight PJ at the pep rally tomorrow, show the school how powerful females can be.”

That lights Hazels face up a little. “That sounds like a great idea.”

“I’ll be in touch.”

When you hear footsteps you act casual, pretending to scroll on your phone, so that your eavesdropping isn’t obvious.

“Hey,” Hazel calls over when she sees you, relieved by your presence but still distraught. She approaches you with her head hung low and she throws her arms around you and grips you tight. You hold her right back, running your hand through her hair soothingly.

“I’m so sorry Haze. I promise that PJ won’t ever bother you again.” That is an oath you’ll never break.

“I hope not,” she sniffles a little and you squeeze her even tighter.

Hazel pulls away looking confused and you smirk.

“Did you say something to her?”

“And then some.”

“Oh.” Hazel is nervous but intrigued.

Hazel doesn’t want to deal with her mom seeing her all upset, she doesn’t want to explain anything so you take her back to your house.

There is some mild applause before he continues. “Well we have a surprise for you!” He starts to search the crowd in the bleachers. “We are going to bring…” he spots her and says “Hazel down.”

People start to clap and he continues. “One of the founding members, to show us everything the club has taught her!”

What happens next is straight out of your own personal hell. Watching Hazel get beat up and you are powerless to do anything about it.

After Hazel receives the final blow you sprint down the bleachers, with the rest of the girls in the fight club, over to her.

When you get to here you drop to your knees and hover over her. She’s hardly conscious.

“Hey, Haze, can you hear me?” It’s a plea for her to be able to hear you.

“Yeah, hi, thanks for checking on me,” Hazel says in pain, yet sounds so casual.”

That earns her an exasperated scoff. “I thought you might be dead!”

Thankfully you had driven to school today. Stella helps you get Hazel into the car. Before you leave you tell Hazel that you are going to send her mom a text.

“I can text her,” she insists.

It takes a strong urge from you to get her to listen. “You might have a concussion, you should probably stay off your phone.”

“Can I pick the music?” Hazel looks at you with those big angel eyes and you melt a little.

“Of course you can Haze, just let me know what you want and I’ll put it on for you.”

After putting on the music she requests, at a very low volume as not to make her head hurt even more than it already does, you text Mrs. Callahan.

“Hazel got beat up, she’s in really bad shape. We are coming home now, I’ll need some help getting her inside. I’ll explain in person.”

You drive extra carefully afraid that the smallest movement could cause more harm. You keep her talking, you aren’t supposed to let someone fall asleep if they might have a concussion.

Mrs. Callahan is anxiously waiting outside and she nearly starts crying when she sees Hazel’s condition. Together you bring her into the house and lay her down on the couch.

You get her ice and then go to the bathroom for first aid supplies. You deliver the ice to Mrs. Callahan so she can hold it to Hazel’s head and get started on cleaning her up.

After all her wounds are cleaned and patched up Mrs. Callahan tells Hazel she wants to take her to the emergency room.

She groans.

“You could have a concussion! Or internal bleeding!”

“Fine,” she huffs and then looks at you. “Can you come with us?”

Intertwining your fingers you squeeze her hand. “Of course I can.”

You spend the next 3 hours waiting for Hazel to get in at the ER. The two of you share headphones and she leans on your shoulder with your arm around her.

You don’t talk much, she’s pretty dazed. You periodically check that she is still conscious. And breathing. You are a little paranoid.

When she finally gets called you wait while her and her mom go see the doctor. Mrs. Callahan gets the full explanation of what happened, and you explain the context of the fight with PJ but don’t go into detail.

Hazel’s gone for what seems like forever. You fidget in your seat. You count the tiles on the ceiling. You even look at a few magazines.

When Hazel is back she announces that all she has is a concussion and a broken nose.

You go back to her house and Mrs. Callahan gets started on dinner. You help Hazel get into some more comfortable, and not bloody clothes. The deep concern for her wellbeing is strong enough to deter your mind from going in an inappropriate direction.

Hazel lays down with her head in your lap.

You run your hands through her hair and you feel her relax into her touch.

“I’m happy you are here.” She sounds so sleepy.

“I wish you could have been the one carrying my books around for me,” Hazel says softly, laced with vulnerability.

“Me too Haze. PJ would literally trip you when she was helping you.” It makes you roll your eyes at the mention of that punk ass bitch.

“Yeah. PJ. Kind of got me into this whole mess didn’t she.” The betrayal in her voice shows just how kind and forgiving she is, anyone else would have so much more animosity in this situation.

“That’s PJ for ya. She won’t get away with this.”

“It’s fine. I just want all this to be over with. If she apologizes, things can go back to normal. If she doesn’t I’ll just avoid her.” Hazel says it all so casually.

“What do you mean back to friends? You’d forgive her after this?” Fury starts to fill you up from head to toe. PJ doesn’t deserve that from Hazel.

“I don’t see why not…” Hazel pouts a little.

“That would imply she’s going to love to see another day,” you scoff. Not at Hazel, but at PJ being such a cunt.

“Can we talk about something else?” Hazel asks somewhat feebly.

“I will be ending Tim.” It’s not a threat, it’s a promise.

“That one’s fair. Anyone else on your hit list?”

“As of now just PJ and Tim, but I’ll keep you updated.”

Mrs. Callahan comes back with dinner up and you all eat together,listening to music, because there are no screens for Hazel until her concussion is gone.

You notice Mrs. Callahan checks the time every few minutes.

“Is everything ok?” You ask gently, already having been worried about her because of Hazel’s injured state.

“I have a huge presentation at work tomorrow. I need to put a few finishing touches on it and it’s getting late. I also don’t know what to do with Hazel tomorrow. I have to go to work but I don’t want to leave her alone.” The internal conflict is evident in her voice.

“I can stay with her.” That should have been obvious but the statement is still gentle.

“You can’t miss school,” Mrs. Callahan insists.

“Nothing is going to get done this close to the football game anyways,” the reminder is paired with a chuckle.

“That’s true.”

“Why don’t we take Hazel upstairs. She can go to bed, you can get your work done and I’ll come back in the morning.”

Mrs. Callahan squeezed your hand and whispers “thank you honey.”

The two of you take Hazel upstairs and get her into bed. Mrs. Callahan says goodnight and goes to her office.

Before you can say anything Hazel asks “can you please stay?”

“Yes. I’ll text my mom. I already told her what happened. I don't think she will care.”

Your mom tells you to take good care of Hazel and sends well wishes.

“You should probably get out of those clothes,” Hazel suggests.

Your mind goes in the wrong direction at first, it’s hard not to, but then you remember that Hazel’s blood is on your shirt and pants.

“Put on whatever you want.” She tells you and closes her eyes.

By the time you find clothes and change Hazel is already fast asleep. You crawl into bed next to her and give her a kiss on the cheek before dozing off yourself.

You had gone to bed earlier than usual last night, yesterday's events had worn you out, which is a shame, you like watching Hazel sleep. She’s just so damn cute.

What’s not a shame? Hazel cuddled up to you.

Her head rests in the crook of your neck, one arm draped across your chest to hold onto your shoulder, and one leg wrapped over yours.
