I’m very pleased to say I am now out of hospital finally. It’s been a long road and there’s still a little way for me to go yet until I am completely recovered. I just wanted to say a massive, massive thank you to everyone who sent messages wishing me well and a speedy recovery. I was overwhelmed by all the support and kindness you have shown over the last few weeks. Friends, family, followers and subscribers and not forgetting every member of NHS staff who looked after me you’re all completely amazing thank you. #hospital #operation #pacemaker #heartcondition #dextrocardia #bristolheartinstitute #bristolroyalinfirmary #nhs #surgery #amazing #lucky #britishheartfoundation (at Chippenham, Wiltshire)

Don’t Ignore These Heart Symptoms
Heart palpitations, anxiety, excessive sweating, and unexplained breathlessness may sometimes indicate more than stress or fatigue. Hyperthyroidism, a condition caused by excess thyroid hormone production, can directly affect the cardiovascular system and increase strain on the heart. Over time, this may lead to irregular heartbeat or worsening heart function if proper treatment is delayed. Many patients remain unaware of the connection between thyroid disorders and heart health until symptoms become severe. Understanding these early warning signs can help in timely diagnosis and treatment. Consulting a specialist for proper evaluation can help prevent complications and support better overall cardiovascular wellness.

Lacrosse is a popular sport that requires physical strength and agility. However, it also poses a risk of commotio cordis, a rare but deadly condition. This occurs when a sudden blow to the chest disrupts the heart's rhythm, leading to cardiac arrest. Commotio cordis is more common in younger athletes, including lacrosse players. It is often caused by a direct impact to the chest from a ball or stick. The condition can be prevented by wearing protective gear, such as chest protectors, and by increasing awareness of the risks among players, coaches, and parents.1. Understanding Commotio Cordis: A Fatal Heart Condition in Lacrosse PlayersCommotio cordis is a rare but fatal heart condition that can occur in lacrosse players. It happens when a blunt force trauma hits the chest at a specific time during the heart's cycle. 💔 The impact can cause the heart to stop beating, leading to sudden cardiac arrest. It's crucial to recognize the symptoms and seek immediate medical attention. 💉 Prevention is key, and wearing proper protective gear, including chest protectors, can reduce the risk of commotio cordis. Coaches and players should also be aware of the condition and its potential dangers. 🏋️♂️ Unfortunately, there is no cure for commotio cordis, and survival rates are low. It's essential to educate players, coaches, and parents about the condition to prevent tragic outcomes. 🎓 In conclusion, commotio cordis is a severe heart condition that can occur in lacrosse players. Recognizing the symptoms, wearing proper protective gear, and educating others can help prevent this tragic outcome. Stay safe and informed! 🙏2. Causes and Risk Factors of Commotio Cordis in Lacrosse PlayersCommotio cordis in lacrosse players can be caused by a direct blow to the chest. Risk factors include inadequate chest protection, playing without a chest protector, and playing with a chest protector that is too small or improperly fitted. Other risk factors include playing in cold weather, playing with a hard ball, playing with a ball that is overinflated, and playing with a ball that is too heavy. Players who have a history of chest trauma or heart conditions may also be at a higher risk for commotio cordis. Prevention is key to reducing the risk of commotio cordis. Properly fitting chest protectors, using softer balls, and avoiding playing in cold weather can help reduce the risk. Coaches and players should also be trained in the proper techniques for checking and avoiding chest impacts. Early recognition and treatment are crucial in the event of a commotio cordis incident. 🚑3. Signs and Symptoms of Commotio Cordis in Lacrosse PlayersCommotio cordis is a rare but life-threatening condition that can occur in lacrosse players. Here are some signs and symptoms to look out for: Sudden collapse during play No pulse or breathing Loss of consciousness Chest pain Shortness of breath If a player experiences any of these symptoms, call 911 immediately and start CPR. Time is critical in saving a life! It's important to note that commotio cordis can occur even with minimal force to the chest. Protective gear does not guarantee prevention. Coaches and players should be aware of the risks and take precautions such as using softer balls, avoiding direct hits to the chest, and having an automated external defibrillator (AED) readily available. Remember, early recognition and prompt action can save a life. Stay informed and keep your players safe! ⚠️4. Diagnosis and Treatment Options for Commotio Cordis in Lacrosse PlayersCommotio cordis is a rare but serious condition that can occur in lacrosse players. It happens when a sudden impact to the chest causes the heart to stop beating. Symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath, and loss of consciousness. Diagnosis is made through an electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiogram. Treatment options include CPR, defibrillation, and advanced cardiac life support. Prevention is key, with the use of chest protectors and education on proper technique. Quick response and access to medical care are crucial in the event of an incident. Commotio cordis can be fatal if not treated immediately. It is important for coaches, parents, and players to be aware of the risks and take necessary precautions. Regular cardiac screenings can also help identify any underlying conditions that may increase the risk of commotio cordis. Remember, safety should always be a top priority in sports. By taking steps to prevent commotio cordis and being prepared to respond in case of an emergency, we can help protect the health and well-being of our athletes. 🏆5. Prevention Strategies for Commotio Cordis in Lacrosse PlayersCommotio cordis is a rare but potentially fatal condition that can occur in lacrosse players. Here are some prevention strategies: Use chest protectors that meet NOCSAE standards Ensure proper fit of chest protectors Teach proper technique for avoiding chest impact Encourage players to report any chest discomfort immediately Implement regular CPR and AED training for coaches and players Wearing chest protectors that meet NOCSAE standards is crucial in preventing commotio cordis. Ensure proper fit to maximize protection. Teach players proper technique to avoid chest impact, such as turning their bodies or using their sticks to deflect the ball. Encourage players to report any chest discomfort immediately, as early intervention can be life-saving. Regular CPR and AED training for coaches and players can improve response time in the event of an emergency. Preventing commotio cordis is essential in keeping lacrosse players safe on the field. Stay vigilant and follow these prevention strategies. 👍6. The Importance of Awareness and Education on Commotio Cordis in Lacrosse PlayersCommotio cordis is a rare but potentially fatal condition that can occur in lacrosse players. It happens when a blunt force impacts the chest at a precise moment in the heart's cycle, causing an arrhythmia. Awareness and education are crucial to prevent commotio cordis. Coaches, parents, and players need to know the signs and symptoms and how to respond. Players should wear chest protectors that meet NOCSAE standards and avoid using hard lacrosse balls during practice. Training should include proper techniques for checking and avoiding dangerous hits. CPR and AED training should be mandatory for all coaches and staff. By increasing awareness and education, we can reduce the risk of commotio cordis in lacrosse players and ensure their safety on the field. 🥍💪🏼 In conclusion, commotio cordis is a serious and potentially fatal condition that can occur in lacrosse players. It is caused by a sudden impact to the chest, which can disrupt the heart's rhythm and lead to cardiac arrest. To prevent commotio cordis, players should wear appropriate protective gear, including chest protectors and rib guards. Coaches and officials should also be trained to recognize the signs of commotio cordis and respond quickly with CPR and defibrillation if necessary. By taking these steps, we can help ensure the safety of lacrosse players and reduce the risk of commotio cordis.
