So I’ve decided to not only learn fluent medical Hebrew for Aliyah in a few years, on top of the Japanese I’m still learning and clinging to, I’ve also decided to learn at least some conversational Arabic because it’s the second most common language in Israel and also I’m a huge masochist who keeps hoarding more and more hobbies

ANYWAY this is a long shot but does anyone here on jumblr/jewblr/Israelblr know good resources for specifically Levantine/Palestinian Arabic? I read somewhere that there are completely different dialects.

(And any resource on specifically medical Hebrew would be a plus)

to any hebrew learners:

watch ארץ נהדרת (eretz nehederet)!!! it’s basically a show that makes fun of everyone and everything (including our prime minister)

some of it’s benefits:

1) it has subtitles (in hebrew)

2) you get to learn about israeli culture and a bit more about how things work here

3) almost all the videos are free!! they have a youtube channel and a website where they have the videos

4) it’s a very very very very well known show (for hebrew speakers and israelis)

5) there is a lot of slang, so that can help you when speaking with natives, since half of our speech is just slang and slurred words

Learning Hebrew

Hey guys! Lately I've grown an interest in the Hebrew culture and I would like to study a bit the language as well. So I'm looking for gals who wouldn't mind spending some of their free time on teaching me the basics. I'm trying to learn Hebrew (just modern for now) but I'm really having a hard time with it. Currently using duolingo but I feel like I'm making a lot of mistakes the app isn't catching. Are there companion/other resources people would suggest? (No real FOR, but those with a convert's perspective would be especially helpful, since part of my frustration at Not Getting It All Right is because I'm a convert and thus not trying hard enough to be Jewish)

hey!

this is my introduction post, i guess, so i will start off by saying i am studying modern, not biblical hebrew. unfortunately though, not yet completely proficient (my spelling skills are terrible, forgive me)

but, i am pretty high level! i would say i am conversationally fluent, but i dunno about other stuff

i’m hoping to post some of my progress on this blog and some resources that i use, and maybe some other things that relate to hebrew or language learning

I'm highly considering/planning on converting to Judaism. But bc it's not really safe or possible for me rn, I have to wait a few years. Is it ok to start learning hebrew now, even if I haven't started the process, or is that more in the area of cultural appropriation?

Hebrew is a living language, and people learn it for a variety of reasons. If you’re interested, go for it!
