remus identifying a lot with maren . he’s a late bloomer Eater who struggles to accept himself for who he is , especially after the consistent trend of people leaving him behind for it — his father , and his mother .
after lyall abandons him with nothing but a note , a tape bidding him farewell and some cash , remus sets off to locating his mother , hope , instead , someone he remembers scarce fragments in his childhood before she’d fled shortly after his first eating episode .
of course given remus’ personality , he’s all denial denial denial of who and what he is . he resists the lifestyle , the hunger that calls him , the cravings that intensify , all to desperately and stubbornly hold onto what remains of his own humanity and himself .
he sets out to a lone journey on the road, aimed for godric’s hollow — his mother’s hometown & encounters several people and instances on the road that test his own judgment and strength .
fenrir greyback , for example , the first eater he’s ever encountered akin to his own shameful features . a mentor , a guide , and he teaches him the ways of their kind , takes him under his wing , until he’s confronted by the reality it means to accept what he is . to eat is to kill , and to kill is to shed the layers of his barricade you from doing so .
he flees at the realisation that this isn’t who he wants to be — a trophy collecting murderer justifying the long tally of slaughter as a means to survive , until it becomes second nature and no remorse is left .
on the road alone again , he stumbles upon another boy (siriussssss .’ ) who recognises him by the strong scent of his own hunger . dark long hair weaved into braids and features moulded by god himself , but remus is repulsed by being categorised with the very monsters that drove his own parents away and messed up his whole life ro , and shoves back the offer the boy makes in a befriending attempt .
of course , it’s only a matter of time before his cravings grasp his better senses , and the hunger catches up to him , taking it out on someone he’d thought he could have a good connection with . his first kill after years of abstinence , landing him in a blood of his own victim curled to the bathroom floor in fear of himself and what he’s done .
and to top his luck , someone (can you guess who?) finds him . opens the door and witnesses the very state of his distraught self , with a devious grin that says ‘i told you so’ .
sirius , on the other hand , is a representative of lee . he’s a survivor of his own kind and the consequences it unravels , and his perception on who he is is the very reason why he clashes heads with someone like remus constantly .
he’s fought long and hard to be at somewhat peace with what he is and the burden it weighs.
having been on the road for quite a while after a detrimental incident that landed him in azkaban ( jail jail jail !! ), sirius becomes enthralled by the other eater he finds , even when he resists him .
thankfully their worlds align , and after finding remus bathed in the blood of his own ravenous hunger , sirius adamantly insists they journey together on the road towards godric’s hollow .
several instances occur where remus & sirius butt heads (because i adore a LOWKEY rivals / enemies to lovers arc with wolfstar always) , and the two fight like a married couple practically all the time .
remus motivates sirius (indirectly of course) to visit home again , which is on their way to godric anyways . he introduces him to his closest friends , and finds out that remus already knew james’ wife , lily evans (what a coincidence , when small worlds collide) and helps learn a kind of kindness for what he is , that being an eater doesn’t have to correlate to monstrosity , even in the eyes of other humans . he doesn’t have to necessarily let go of who he is as a person because of what he can’t help be .
at some point they even visit regulus , which is a huge point in the story given how long sirius has gone out of contact with him .
ugh i adore them , i have such cute scenes for them in store w a lake day , a festival , road shenanigans , and then if you’ve watched the movie you can kind of see where this is headed <//3
