Well, I have a theory, you know how lion cubs have spots?

even into teenage years? Well you’ve probably connected the dots by now so, yeah toothless was basically a teenager when he met hiccup which is why he still had spots

HTTYD/RTTE AU/headcanon/theory/idea thing

Okay okay so we know Ryker and Viggo right? How Viggo inherited the business from their grandfather? Because of that, we don’t actually know who their father or mother is, let alone if they have uncles or aunts. Though in assuming they do because they have a canon cousin whose name I cannot remember. This leads me to the idea of what if Grimmel was their uncle?

Not father or grandfather (that wouldn’t make sense since we’re assuming their grandfather died well before RTTE).

I say this because he kinda reminds me of Viggo. Even Hiccup when Eret told him how Grimmel hunts said “we’ve dealt with his kind before” definitely referencing Viggo. But he reminds me of Viggo because of how much of a strategist he is. Though how he is also kind of like Ryker in a way. Like Viggo, he focused on drawing Hiccup out and estimating everything, even trying to be at least one step ahead. But he also pushed things like Ryker. Viggo never went as far to threaten Hiccup’s friends (too much anyway) and focused on getting to Hiccup himself while Ryker would use any means necessary. Grimmel did both of these things.

A couple of other theories/ideas that also help with this AU:

The idea that Toothless isn’t the last Night Fury, or at least that Grimmel wasn’t the one that killed all of them single-handedly

The thought that Night Furies are pack hunters which is why Toothless was even on Berk to begin with, he was following the other dragons

The only reason I don’t think Toothless was the last/Grimmel didn’t single-handedly kill the Night Furies is because of the idea of them being pack hunters. Powerful dragons like a Night Fury being pack hunters would make it incredibly difficult to kill all of them easily like Grimmel claims he did.

The reason this ties in is because I do not recall Viggo referring to Toothless as “the last Night Fury”. Now if he did please let me know, but if he has it certainly wasn’t that much if I don’t remember him saying it at all. Not even Ryker, if I remember correctly, called him the last one. So the thought of Viggo and Ryker being sceptical of their uncle for supposedly “killing all Night Furies” is funny to me.

Oh and more evidence that it’s unlikely Grimmel did kill all of them on his own is that Valka knew how to calculate Toothless’ age, so clearly she’s seen other Night Furies before. And based on that, she would’ve had to be around BABY Night Furies to be able to accurately calculate age and notice the chin nubs like that.

Anyway the thought of Grimmel looking between Viggo and Ryker and going

In general, there are few stories about "The Chosen One" that I like, but I have a feeling that Hiccup is one of them.

I mean, the dragon that kidnapped Valka was completely mesmerized with him, and at that time he was just a baby.

So I've been thinking about this for a while now and I need a hard-core HTTYD fan to correct me if I'm wrong but...

Was Valka meant to be the villain in HTTYD 2 originally? Because I was rewatching the movie recently and I honestly got the vibe that she was originally going to be a twist villain and Drago was a red herring or something.

Like the fact she's able to make Toothless faint without even touching him, or that she knew how to push his back fins out even though she's never met a Nightfury before. That felt like a leftover bit from a version where she wasn't a good guy. It just gave me a bad vibe!

Am I the only one who felt like this?

Hear me out: any dragon can get a bit "glowy", for lack of better term, when they become an alpha.

(Or something else cool, idk)

Cause if not, that's a bit... weird, right? Like only a Night Fury can become alpha and only they get the extra color(s?)? What about other species? Is it something along the line of how they tend to look in the Hidden World?

I mean, from SoD (rest it's soul) we know Toothless turns blue (also in Rise of Berk, if you get that skin) in the Hidden World, so what about the other dragons? Do they get a much more concentrated version of a certain color(s) if they became an alpha?

Did the Bewilderbeast have one? What color? Blue? White? Yellow? Or none at all?

I think Meatlug would look cute if she had little green markings, like little plants :D

DISCUSSION! THEORY!

I’ve been thinking a lot about whether I should share this theory. I don’t know if anyone has written a post about it since, or talked about this theory, but yes, I’ve seen baby Hiccup posts, fanart, and I even read a fanfic about the circumstances of Hiccup’s birth.

Just to clarify! I am never and was not preemie myself, but if since there’s a character in the movie who is canonically (and if I remember correctly, also in the books) preemie, and since it’s a relevant topic, I think it’s time I discuss it.

“You came early into this world; so frail, so fragile. I feared you wouldn’t make it. But your father never doubted.”

This line is spoken by Valka in the second movie right? But how early?

I think this is something very few people talk about. I mean specifically premature birth. The parents always remember it, but the baby who arrives early usually doesn’t unless it’s accompanied by illness or physical complications. Or the most important thing: developmental delays.

But it’s important to note:

• Premature birth is not a rare phenomenon. Even today, many babies are born before 37 weeks. These cases are becoming increasingly common.

• For parents, it remains a lifelong memory. The fear, the uncertainty, then the hope that maybe their little miracle will survive. Then the new fear that if the mother becomes pregnant again, will it happen again? The worst is when they lose their miracle.

SO..

Although the franchise never confirmed exactly how early Hiccup was born, it’s easy to imagine that under Viking-era conditions, even a 32–34-week birth carried serious risks. There was no medical care, no warmers, no incubators, no tubes or wires, no sterile tools only the family. If we consider the movie, and the rank Stoick and Valka held at the time, then Gothi and perhaps the elders, plus instinct. Perhaps Gobber as a supporter. The survival of such a baby was not only a physical miracle, but also an emotional one.

The circumstances of the birth were during a cold period, perhaps on a stormy, snowy night (since he was born on a leap day, or I read something similar on Reddit that it that he was born on a very cold day. Canon or not canon, I dunno), and when Gothi realized that this was going to be a birth, she and a midwife could only help with the most necessary tools. The birth may have been quick, but it was probably complicated, as Valka struggled with blood loss and Hiccup did not cry immediately. In fact, he did not even breathe, and Gothi did everything she could to make him cry.

How did they keep him alive? Skin-to-skin contact, hot stones, wool swaddling, drop-by-drop feeding. Gothi carved a small tool out of bone to help add/dose the milk easily. Feeding wasn’t easy, because Hiccup had trouble drinking his mother’s milk. In fact… Valka couldn’t breastfeed for the first few days after the birth she may have been ill and weak. In that case, a woman chosen by Gothi fed Hiccup, or another milk source had to be used. I also heard that premature babies were wrapped in cow stomachs obtained from slaughterhouses to keep them warm. I can imagine something similar was used, maybe a stomach of a yak or sheep.

His breathing was weak, his temperature unstable. The community and even Valka doubted, but Stoick insisted the boy would become a warrior if he survived.

To reduce infection risks, for a while mother and baby (after Valka recovered enough) were kept in a separate room where only the midwife and Gothi were allowed to enter. They stayed in a protected place (a lived-in house, a warm nest), reduced foot traffic, and limited exposure to potential infection sources. This means Stoick couldn’t always visit them.

Hiccup’s survival depended on an experienced midwife, a wet nurse for the early days, and Gothi, who directed the care. They used folk methods (massage, warming, stimulating breathing), perhaps even herbal mixtures. I can imagine Valka didn’t let him off her chest for days, so he could feel her body heat. In the Viking era, these were the “beginner incubators.”

And this leads to why he grew up with such a weak boy, short height, and “fragile” appearance.

That’s my theory-like post. Since today is the World Premature day, if you also belong to this, then Sushi is proud of you even as unknown person.

so uh I have a theory about the mist twister. Which I think might help justify it's existence?

Particularly what it's based on, and what I think it might be the origin of in the HTTYD universe.

This is Wu and Wei, the Mist Twister attached to the main cast of The Nine Realms. Mist Twisters are two-headed tidal class dragons, one head shoots fire, the other shoots water.

And in actual chinese myth, there is a two headed dragon, albeit with much different anatomy

Hong or Jiang, the Rainbow Dragon of chinese myth. It is considered aligned with Yin, as it controls water.

In real life, rainbows are created when light is refracted through water.

What is something that creates light? Fire.

one head of a mist twister shoots fire, the other shoots water, like I said earlier.

So, the Mist Twister is Hong, and I have reason to believe this, due to concept art.

The multi-colored tail fan!

Plus, since white is all the colors of light together, and black is the absence of light, it would make sense.

So, basically, the mist twister is Hong with much more realistic anatomy.

Did Viggo Really Die? (RTTE Headcanon and Theory)

Well met, my fellow Furians! Today, we'll dive into a topic I've been sitting on for years since the show, particularly Season 6, back in 2018.

Did Viggo really die in "Triple Cross"?

Thankfully, several other people have had this suspicion besides me, from what I saw after googling it.

There's @kingofthewilderwest 's post here, though it's about Season 4, I feel it applies well here. There's also a discussion thread about Viggo's death on the HTTYD Wiki here if you feel like checking it out.

But I found it really odd that Viggo "died" so anti-climatically when he survived a BLOODY VOLCANO!!! (That still ticks me off, by the way.)

What makes it stranger is that we see Viggo acting injured in this scene when Hiccup turns to Viggo.

And what happens after Hiccup leaves? Viggo straightens, drops the facade, and does THIS:

I mean look at this mad-lad WALKING AND CHARGING like nothing had happened to him!!! It's absurd!

And those arrows didn't look like they went all that deep. Which, when you think about it, makes sense. After all, there's no way Viggo wouldn't have arrow-resistant armor. Being the Chieftain of Dragon Hunters, his armor is probably mostly made of dragon materials. His cuirass is likely made of some tough dragon material, specifically made to repel any assassination attempts. Someone in his position must've had a lot of assassination attempts and even mutinies. Either that or Viggo is just extremely careful and wants to make sure every precaution is taken to ensure his safety and life.

Of course, the Skrill's fire blast might've killed him, but considering that we never see his death, we haven't seen a body, and the fact Krogan and Johann never mentioned it must mean that Viggo is actually alive.

Allow me to explain how this could be possible.

Viggolocks and the Three Accomplices

As you know, there is a special meaning to "Triple Cross". Not only is it encompassing the double-cross by Krogan and Johann against Viggo, but also the triple-cross Viggo did against them.

However, there's also another reason:

The Accomplices!

In this episode, when Hiccup met Viggo, the latter had this to say:

"The Accomplice. One of the most important pieces in all of Maces and Talons, allowing a player to use an opponent's piece for their own ends. You can certainly win without it; but with it, you can attain total victory."

This entire episode's theme is about accomplices. In fact, it's accomplices who are the episode's catalyst.

How many? Three.

Yes, that's right. THREE!

Hiccup is the first accomplice, obviously.

Who's the second?

A Skrill. Viggo drags Hiccup along to a very cold and snowy place (my theory and headcanon is someplace around the Shivering Shores), and uses a shiny dagger to attract a Skrill to him.

But why a Skrill? Viggo explains this to Hiccup in this scene:

"In ancient times, the Singetail was one of the most feared dragons. However, there was one dragon, whose powerful blast could neutralize the Singetail's fire. Meet our Accomplice, Hiccup. The Singetail's only predator: the Skrill."

Krogan's Flyers were guarding the Hunter base where the Dragon Eye was located. As such, having a Skrill — the Singetails' natural predator and only enemy — on their side was essential to their plan, even if it was just to be a distraction.

However, there was one more accomplice — a third accomplice — who might have possibly been involved that Hiccup (and perhaps even Viggo) didn't know was involved in their little scheme.

This guy, in Season 5's "Wings of War".

Honestly, I truly view this to be an abysmal display of teasing us with a plot point, only to not do anything with it! Seriously! What a waste of a good plot device! 😤💢😠

Or is it? 👀🤔

When he and Viggo dived into the volcano in Dragon's Edge, he almost fell off the ledge and into the volcano (even though, in reality, it's impossible to be anywhere near a volcano without dying from one thing or another 😑).

However, Viggo saved him from dying, causing the Hunter Goon to say this:

Dragon Hunter: I owe you my life!

Viggo: Perhaps someday you will repay me in some small way.

Bear in mind, Viggo didn't do this out of the goodness of his heart. He needed an ally — or an accomplice, in this case — who he could use in the tentative ally-cum-rival's camp. And saving his life was a great way to hook him into doing whatever he wanted him to do.

Thus, it is entirely possible that Viggo recruited him to take part in this scheme, fully intending to escape, take back his Hunters, and go to other lands to continue his empire.

In fact, what's interesting is the expression of this Hunter in this scene below.

Of course, as you know, from the earlier GIFs, it could just be that he was surprised at Viggo charging at him. But you never know.

Of course, one could point out that the Hunter might've already paid Viggo back by interrupting Viggo (and thus Krogan's attempt at assassinating him) in "Wings of War". However, I find that to be a flimsy rebuttal, and I don't believe that Viggo would let that slide and would argue that he already knew of Krogan's scheme, and thus, would insist that the Hunter still owed him.

Conclusion

Therefore, it is my conclusion — along with my theory and headcanon — that Viggo survived this confrontation. Albeit injured, he is saved by the Hunter whose life he redeemed for his own use as the unknown accomplice (to Hiccup) for his plans, and helped him escape Krogan and Johann, where they go to some isolated place to heal. And later, Viggo would gather the remnants of the Hunters, reunite with his Tribe, and sail to distant lands, as he had promised Hiccup.
