thank you so much!! and i’m very glad you asked >:3 here’s a little background of his origins, and his relationship to gertrude!

Nicodéme Calvet is an avatar of the Beholding and the Flesh born in the mid 1800s. He was slowly changed into an avatar entirely without his knowing after accidentally collecting pages of a Beholding Leitner that had been infused with the blood of a Flesh avatar. Those pages, which were "gifted" to him by a murder of crows he had befriended, sat in his desk drawer at home and made him worse and worse and worse like a black mold problem that Nico simply couldn't see.

It took him years to understand he was experiencing some sort of supernatural phenomenon, and even longer to understand the gravity of his situation— but as he learned about the fears, his road took him to London. More specifically, The Magnus Institute, where he meets Gertrude Robinson.

This brings us to the last piece I posted! Nico's relationship to the Institute is complicated, as is his relationship to Gertrude. Due to his nature as a dual-patron avatar (who's abilities have less to do with mind-reading/invading and more to do with reading/invading the body) he's often seen on a similar level to allied forces rather than on the same level as the avatars of the Beholding who work at the Institute despite his desire and frequent attempts to play a larger role in Institute affairs. Gertrude occasionally required his assistance in regards to obtaining medical records and consulted him on topics revolving around medicine in return for the Institute's help in keeping his immortal nature under wraps. Beyond this, Nico's attempts to find a proper seat at the table were dismissed, leaving him frustrated— especially with Gertrude.

The aforementioned drawing is a sort of precursor to a vague conversation I imagine them having where Nico attempts cordiality while ominously insisting his potential to her, which comes off more like a threat than a polite suggestion. Needless to say, Nico does not get his way in the end.

Sam Reid has been acting for much longer than hudcon. I wish Connor had been outright supportive and condemned the racism, but he's been nothing but complimentary of Hudson's character and talent. Don't need to post this I just think their situations are different. You're right though, I am very much following Hudson's lead here. If he's cool with it, I can live with it (for now).

Yeah that’s why I added Sam Reid being more established playing a part in it, IWTV cast is also just more diverse in general so it’s also a bit easier to be more outspoken vs the very white cast of HR.

Y’all know I don’t make it a habit of defending white men and I do fully believe whoever is on his team does not have his best interest at heart and he needs to hire me bc I’ll clear all this shit up immediately BUT when we first had this conversation, so many people were mad that I said it’s gonna take specifically Connor making his stance known to see a change in tide and asked how exactly I wanted him to do that (which pissed me smooth tf off, I’m getting irritated thinking about it omg) and I said since he hasn’t done anything himself to stoke the racist flames, simply affirming Hudson’s space in his life or just speaking highly of him will at the very least quiet a subset of fans and some of the publications

And lo and behold, SNL and the vogue interview drop, and even if it was performative, you immediately saw a change in how people spoke about Hudson. I’m not calling Connor a revolutionary or even saying it was his way of denouncing how people spoke about Hudson (he would’ve wanted him there regardless of what the outside noise was) but I mean the change was genuinely immediate, like I actually got whiplash at how quickly some people managed to “cure” their racism and I think Connor is undeniably aware of this.

All that to say, not posting the message with the rest of the cast, absolutely crazy on his part, but he does kinda strike me as a gestures guy, and dare I say, intentional or not, the SNL and Vogue mention did more than that flimsy ass statement did.

So yes he is not without his faults and yes things should’ve been handled differently from the very beginning, and no I don’t believe he’s an evil racist who doesn’t love Hudson, and no I also don’t think he’s Malcom X, but he has never given me a reason to believe that he doesn’t truly have Hudson’s best interest at heart, and as we’ve agreed, if Hudson say it’s cool, then I’ll be cool (for now lol)

Okay, this reading became very long because this miscommunication thing has been plaguing me for weeks and I wanted to get to the bottom of it. So you’re the lucky reading who got an extended cut. 

How does Sam feel about the Relationship: Temperance. This is a card that symbolizes patience. Sam’s being incredibly patient in this relationship right now, maybe even trying to keep the peace. He cares about this relationship and wants to make sure it remains harmonious. 

How does Jacob feel about the Relationship:   The Ten of Wands, reversed. He’s tired, but he’s trying to rest and recover now. He’s looking for support during this time, and perhaps trying to re-delegate tasks and balance work and life and recreation better.

How is the relationship going: Ten of Pentacles, reversed. When upright, The Ten of Pentacles is a card about family, community, and financial stability. However, this card is reversed. That means these two are struggling because there is discord somehow- maybe someone is concerned about family, or how they are being perceived by their social circle at large. They could be afraid of losing approval, or they could be being prompted to change their behaviors. This card, because it is a pentacles card, also suggests a preoccupation with wealth when reversed. 

Why is the relationship going this way: King of Swords. Here’s my personal read on this: The King of Swords represents a strategic leader, an authority figure who thinks with their head and not their heart. They seek order, and are impartial to emotions and sentimental connections or inclinations. If this figure is hovering over the relationship and giving advice, they are making it very hard for Jam to sort through their feelings. Alternatively, if one half of Jam is approaching the relationship in an overly practical way, they are still not communicating about their feelings. 

Do they work it out: The Chariot, Reversed. This card is often a very powerful card, upright or reversed. Upright, this card is about driving forward successfully, in one direction to a goal. However, this card is reversed. This means someone is being pulled in different directions. They need to stop and consider which of these directions they truly want to go before they start to move again. Then they can truly find success. I think this means Jam can patch things up, but they need to settle everything else on their lives first.

do you think Tobey had thoughts of fear when he found out he was going to become a father? Like fear of being like his father which Becky reassures him that he’s not?

As happy as Tobey would be from the news, and how he might be "ready" for it. The anxiety and fear of fatherhood wouldn't go away, and it's tenfold taking into account his father. Like the minute he's told, he's hugging Becky tightly spinning her around, but then his eyes widened and he immediately goes into panic mode. Thinking of all the ways he might fail a child. It's not enough that he used to be a former villain, and from his immature actions, it's the dread that a child might view him unfavorably like he did to his own father. Or that somehow, the sins of his family might affect their kid and Becky. It's hard enough that he thinks he doesn't deserve Becky's love. Does he deserve love from his own children? He thinks it's fine if they hate him, as long as he is in their life them and can provide (unlike his dad). Becky, of course, would lightly scold him for thinking the worst about himself. And reassure him that not in a million years would Tobey be like his father or that he would fail. Being a parent is going to be difficult, but as long as they have each other's support, it's fine. Plus, Tobey is undermining his paternal expertise. He would be surprisingly good with kids even before having his own, and Becky is thankful for that.

Future AU headcanon things bc for parent Tobey (separate cause of different interpretations): At least for my Tobey, it's basically all the same. I mean, it's where I got the anxieties from and applies to it. Fatherhood, in general, to Tobey is this irreparable thing, and he knows he must be the change of the cycle of fatherly neglect in his family, aka he breaks it. Also, I've mentioned it a lot of times, but aside from fatherhood, Tobey becomes motherly, figures since it's the group he has the utmost respect for and it helped change him for the better. (Something something, breaking away toxic masculinity, more gnc Tobey foreshadowing, yada blah blah--you know the drill with me). So it's interesting for him not simply to just choose being part of fatherhood. He's also likes the lable of motherhood or just parenthood in general. Something Becky definitely encourages. Although, yes, Tobey would and will use masculine titles like dad, father, papa, etc. and the kids call him that too (well, Tori actually just calls him Toto like his name since she clocked his gnc aura as a baby hfjfedhh). As despite what I said, it is gratifying for him to be seen as a good father or one at all since the lable has been scorned for most of his life thanks to Theo and by other terrible dads (except for Tim of course!! He loves Tim! One of the reasons he strives with fatherhood since Tim is like the closest role model he has. No offense villains who also became fathers...). But yes, even with that self-awareness, he is still fearing for his life on being a dad. Anxiety doesn't go away, and it will crawl back. But Becky is here, and she'll always be ready to state the obvious. Like how (*spoilers in future AU of all the things his father did*) Tobey could in no way be like his father, for one Tobey is actually present and not abandoning her and their marriage! That calms Tobey down. Of course, he would never. Redirects that frustration off himself and back to his "dad"
