someone (@/sylphofmind28 !!) posted underneath my original peter parker in gotham post recommending the idea of peter having read DC comics back in his world, allowing him to know the identities of all the bats, which i absolutely adored! so im going to expand more on that here!
peter absolutely read hero comics when he was a little kid, being obsessed w both real heroes and fictional ones. alongside that iron man helmet he may have even had batman bedsheets with a matching nightwing pillow case. he's studied UP on DC heroes and could name every single robin if he ever needed to 'prove' his knowledge is legit. he has a lego batmobile he built with ned at home and comics literally stacked on his bookshelf and desk.
so, when he goes through [insert peter in gotham inciting incident] and ends up in gotham, he's ecstatic. well, first he's terrified out of his mind for a bit wondering how he'll get home, and then he's ecstatic. he knows batman and the rest of the batfam like the back of his hand, so grateful the world is the same as the comic books he's read.
he recognizes he's in gotham by seeing a bruce wayne advertisement, and then picking up a newspaper to see "batman defeated twoface again! back in arkham!"
peter carefully considers if he should immediately go to bruce for help to get back home, or if he should wait it out and just figure it out on his own, and he chooses a nice in between. he can't just break into wayne manor and ask THE batman for help, he has to gain his trust first!
he'll only mess with him and his kids... a little.. on the way.
so as he's reading gotham's version of spider-man comics knowing exactly who all the bats are, the bats struggle to find a james jackson that fits any of spiderman's description. and peter's WELL aware.
but of course, there'll be some slip ups...
Batman: I have to head back for the night. You should too, Spiderman, it's getting late.
Spider-Man: Heading back to the manor already?
Batman: Ye—... Excuse me?
Spider-Man: I meant! Uh! The cave! The bat— uh, cave!... Gotta go, bye!
Batman: Spider—! ... Man...
Oracle: Wow, do you just give rich man energy no matter your form, B?
Batman: Don't start, Oracle.
and he unfortunately can't even avoid them as a civilian either..
peter arrives at the library to check out another book, chatting with barbara as normal, when dick comes in to see barbara.
Dick: Babs, hey! Are you busy?
Barbara: I am at work and have an hour left til break. Does that answer your question?
Dick: Riiight riiight.. Just wondering... Hey, kid!
Peter: Hi Night— sir! Hi, sir!
Barbara: What do you need me for, Dick?
Dick, eyes lingering on Peter: Well, I was wondering if you could help me with my, uh, phone? It broke.
Barbara: Your phone?
Dick: I'll wait an hour for your break..
Peter: Your comms broke?
They both stare at him before he coughs and trips over his words.
Peter: I mean, because you're a cop, no? Your, uh, uniform and all!
Dick: Oh! Oh, haha, no that's not it! Babs wouldn't be able to do anything about that, now could she?
Barbara: Nothing at all!
Peter: OKSORRYBYE
Both of them watch him leave and only look back at eachother once he's gone.
Dick: Strange kid...
Barbara: Smart kid's more like it. Let me see your busted comms.
Dick: Busted is a strong word...
it's genuine peter luck that he hasn't gotten caught yet....
