rewatched a certain early Shippuden scene (half-dead Deidara reunites with Tobi and Zetsu after getting his shit wrecked hy Konoha) and was reminded of one of the funniest decisions the direction had at that point
in only that particular episode Wataru Takagi's (Tobi/Obito's seiyuu) voice has this echoing effect added to it in postproduction, which was, I assume, to enhance the feeling of Tobi actually speaking through a mask in the way. they dropped this pretty much immediatelly, likely because it made the dialogue harder to hear (and probably when they saw the amount of dialogue this orange faced bum has down the line they thought to themselves "fucckkkk we'd have to edit his voice so much it's gonna be so annoyingggg").
but like. imagine a world where Obito's voice is always muffled and half of the time people can't fucking hear his dramatic speeches and declarations
Obito: Heh... so that's how it is. Then so be it! I declare—
Onoki, fixing his hearing aid: What?! What is he saying?
Obito, mildly annoyed at the ruined moment: I repeat, then so be it! I shall decla—
Ay: We can't fucking hear you! Fix your mask, dammit!
Obito, now physically sweating at the prospect of his dramatic and passionate retelling of the lore of Madara's messy situationships was ignored by the Five Kage because no one could hear him: Is... is it better now? Can I continue?
Onoki, flying up right in his face, still twiddling with the hearing aid: Speak louder! I can not make out anything you said!
Obito: I! SHALL! DECLARE! WAR! ON! YOU! ALL OF YOU! YOU HEAR ME?!
Everyone on the summit at the same time: NO, WE CAN'T!
Obito, genuinely on the brink of tears because he's been planning this moment for months and years at this point and he completely messed it up: I... The war!.. You will know!.. The War!.. The hell!.. I shall show!.. I will!.. *sobs*
Recently ressurected Akatsuki members in some random dingy cave hundreds of kilometers away, through their Kabuto-induced undead coma, together: Tobi... pull the dick... out of your mouth... you cocksucking loser...
The first two parts of Naruto Live Spectacle run for two hours. The first one retells the first part of the manga, and the parts that do not directly relate to the main storyline (Naruto and Sasuke) are cut out. There are completely no Chunin exams arc and Tsunade search arc. But the Land of Waves arc is shown quite fully there, with all the necessary dialogues about the "most precious" and love and power. Clearly, the priority is on themes and content, rather than battles and events. Next comes the battle with Gaara (which also contains dialogues about love from Yashamaru) and VOTE1. This is probably the best option for adapting the first part in two hours.
The situation is similar with the second part, which adapts the first four arcs of Shippuden. There's nothing that doesn't include Sasuke. There is no Kazekage rescue arc and Team 8's battle against Akatsuki (but there is the creation of a Rasenshuriken). But all the quarrels between Naruto and Sai about Sasuke are included, lol. Priorities here...
This is a kind of Sasuke Shippuden tbh, his arc with Itachi is central here. It's obvious that the director is a Sasuke fan.
Some scenes legally look like a Romeo and Juliet production.
I immediately remembered the PV "Road of Naruto", which also briefly retells Naruto. Everything there consists of battles and there is almost nothing beyond them in general. And there is a very strange prioritization. Chunin exams take the most time (1:55 minutes out of 9:30) there. The Fourth Shinobi World War is mainly shown in a slide show. The battle against Madara at the end lasts 4 seconds, like???
But the funniest thing there is the Kage Summit arc. It SCREAMS that the director hates Sasuke because... Well, first there are intentionally several seconds about how Gokage kicks Sasuke's ass, and not the other way around, and then the emphasis is on all his "terrible crimes" in this arc. In particular, the attack on Sakura, who attacked him first, lol. This is the most disgusting summary you can think of.
I just like the comparison of these two summary. They have a different format, but that's not even the main difference. They focus on different things and it is obvious from them how their creators see "Naruto" as a whole.
Sasuke’s shown to nullify mortal injuries with Raiton!
Sasuke’s done that twice in the manga: once against Bee and the other time against Danzo.
Granted that he did that against Deidara, as well, but that was to nullify the doton-based clay-nano-bombs in his blood-stream. This is very brilliant. It’s almost as if Sasuke recognizes that he can’t always be with a medic; so in order to bypass this problem, he’s worked a solution around it: vastly lessen the impact of the injury through Raiton and render it non-fatal to allow himself to keep fighting and/or find a way to remove himself from the battle.
No other Shinobi uses any jutsu in this manner save the Medics; so he’s sort of a mini-medic in this sense (a great one at that when he was using the White Snake’s abilities passively.) Damn, even the little things make Sasuke absolutely stand out compared to the rest!
You know the events after the Kage summit are very telling in regards to Naruto and Sakura’s feelings towards Sasuke.
Naruto tries to imagine Sasuke’s pain and understand him, while Sakura doesn’t - she ultimately views him as a criminal.
They both claim to love Sasuke but look at the decisions and actions they take, which contrast one another.
Sakura decides to kill Sasuke whereas Naruto still tries his hardest to save him, even having a panic attack at the thought of him dying.
Naruto couldn’t believe Sakura was willing to kill Sasuke - as Naruto said ‘but she loves him so much’ - that’s Naruto’s thought process - if you love someone, how could you even think of killing them?
I think there will be two more parts. One part after this one and then an Epilogue type part. I don’t want to make parts too long, this one is the longest in the series at about 2.3k words.
To Kakashi’s and Shikamaru’s surprise, you didn’t stumble as you landed a little outside of the Suna, Kankuro placed your marker here a couple days ago so you would land here instead of Gaara’s office again.
They both watched you as you took in deep breath of the Suna air, it was warm, it was inviting, and it was already home. The two of them instantly started sweating.
“Yikes, y/n, is it always this hot here?” Shikamaru asked.
“Huh? Oh yeah probably but here,” you closed your eyes as you expanded the cool air around you, “I’m not good with heat either so I started practicing this.”
Shikamaru and Kakashi looked at each other in confusion, “how did it drop like 30 degrees?”
“Shika, Kakashi, meet my new jutsu! Using my wind and water natures I just kinda manipulate the air so it’s whatever temperature I feel like.” You smiled as you confidently walked on.
“She really isn’t letting anything stop her is she?” Shikamaru smirked.
“Not a chance. You, however, you’re probably going to have to deal with the same thing she has when it comes to Temari aren’t you?” Kakashi smirked through his mask, “y/n told me a couple days ago as she was ranting about how ridiculous this was.”
“I might kill her for that.” Shikamaru chuckled as he and Kakashi walked behind you.
“Gaara wouldn’t let you get a chance,” Kakashi replied, patting the lazy flustered genius on the back.
The three of you walked on to the Suna gates, you smiled as you saw Gaara, Temari and Kankuro waiting for you.
“A welcome from the Kazekage himself,” Kakashi snickered, “I wonder why we get such special treatment.” He smiled, giving you a small nudge.
You felt yourself blush as you looked up at Gaara, a faint blush plastered on his face as well.
“Kakashi, Shikamaru. Temari and Kankuro can lead you to the meeting room. If it’s possible, can I have a moment with y/n?” Gaara asked, the five of you could see how flustered he was.
Shikamaru gave you a wink as the two of them walked on with Temari and Kankuro.
“y/n.” Gaara whispered as the two of you walked a different way to the meeting room.
“Gaara.” you blushed. You watched Gaara’s hair blow with the wind. He really was so handsome, so sweet, so sincere. You wondered how the Village and The Elders didn’t expect you to fall for him when they originally would place you on so many missions to the Suna.
“It’s uh, it’s been a while.” Gaara nervously stuttered out.
“Yeah, 1 month is a super long time to wait after you’ve just admitted feelings to each other, “ you blushed nervously. “Do you uh, you still feel the same right?”
Gaara stopped and looked at you, “whether I had to wait one month or one year, my feelings for you will always remain the same.”
You turned around to look at him, blushing even more now. “Well good, because I went through hell trying to get my Elders to approve,” you laughed.
“So they did approve?” Gaara asked, you could hear the hopefulness in his voice.
“As long as the rest of the Kages are okay with it.” you smiled.
Gaara let out a small sigh as he opened the doors to the meeting room. “Guess we’re about to find out.”
The table was arranged in a large circle. First sat Gaara as his siblings stood behind him, then the Mizukage and her advisors behind her. You saw Kakashi and Shikamaru in the middle as you went to stand next to them. The Raikage and Tsuchikage next to you along with their advisors. The first part of the meeting was discussing the remaining clean up left from the war, new trade routes, and the next chunin exams that would feature all 5 of the great nations. They all called for a break as they’ve been discussing things for hours.
You went to go get a drink of water when you felt someone behind you. “Huh? Oh Izumi! How do you like being the Mizukages newest advisor?” you asked, leaning against the wall.
“It’s uh, it’s nice. I like the responsibility.” Izumi replied.
There was a really weird awkward silence between the two of you. You noticed Gaara staring at you from behind Izumi. You smiled as you locked eyes with him.
“Uh, y/n?” Izumi blushed.
“Oh? You okay Izumi?” you asked, him pulling you out of your thoughts about Gaara. Did Izumi get overheated?
“Would you like to get dinner with me tonight? After this is over?” Izumi asked, hurrying the words out of his mouth.
You stared back at him with wide eyes. Was it really that easy if you weren’t a Kage? You could just ask someone out? You almost felt yourself start to laugh at the ridiculousness of the rules that were limiting you and Gaara.
“We’ll be starting soon.” Gaara told the two of you as he walked past.
You blushed, did he overhear? Did he get a little jealous? You smiled at Izumi, “Thank you, I’m really flattered but I am taken. At least I think I am.”
“OH! OH I’m sorry!” Izumi apologized, “I didn’t know! Please tell whoever it is that I had no clue.” Izumi apologized again as the two of you walked into the meeting room. You gave Gaara a light pat on his back as you walked behind him.
The rest of the Kage settled into the room. “Do you want me to start it?” Kakashi asked you as he took his seat.
You were instantly nervous, it was show time. “Yea- yeah, could you?” you asked, looking down at him. You turned to look at Gaara, was he nervous as well? Suddenly, you could feel light grains of sand wrapping around your hand, giving you a light squeeze. You smiled as you looked at Gaara, he didn’t have to move a muscle to let you know that he was there for you, that he could comfort you.
“Alright, what was the next order of business?” The Mizukage asked.
“Well actually,” Kakashi paused, “Let’s not overcomplicate it. If y/n were to marry someone in the Suna, would any of you be opposed?”
“Why are you asking us? That seems like something the Elders of your village would have to discuss.” The Tsuchikage replied.
“And if that someone was me?” Gaara spoke up.
The room got quiet and stiff as the three Kages stared at Gaara and you. “Y/n, you are the strongest in the Leaf, correct?” The Raikage asked.
“Behind Naruto.” you corrected him.
“So then the Sand and Leaf village would have the strongest kunoichi, while the rest of us wait until you declare war on us.” The Raikage continued.
Your eyes got big, since when did anyone say anything about a war?
“No one ever mentioned a war, just because y/n would divide her time between the two villages doesn’t mean we’re planning anything.” Shikamaru spoke up.
“She’s a high ranking official in the Leaf, who would be married to the Kazekage, how can you expect us to trust that the two of you wouldn’t team up?” The Tsuchikge asked.
“There’s no need for us to team up right now, the War ended years ago and we’re still cleaning up after it.” Temari replied.
“If this union happens, the Land of Lightning would have no choice but to see it as a threat. A declaration of war.” The Raikage replied.
Gaara watched as a single tear left your eyes. “Don’t start a war you aren’t strong enough to finish.” Gaara was sighed out, it was quiet but it was stern. He was tired. No one ever expected he could love someone and now that he does, he doesn’t understand why everyone gets to have a say.
“Lord Kazekage, if you were in our positions you would feel the same way.” The Raikage replied.
“If I was in your position, I’d be able to clearly see whether you approve or not, it doesn’t matter.” Gaara replied.
Your eyes went wide as Shikamaru smirked and Kakashi sat back, the two of them would have little defending to do if Gaara was here for you.
“No matter what village y/n is in, the Suna would never act in a way that could hurt her. Whether she is my wife, or my friend, she will always be protected by the Suna.” Gaara replied, looking directly into the Raikage's eyes.
“So, technically there is already a union?” The Mizukage asked, looking over at Kakashi.
“Well, not exactly. However, as long as I’m Hokage, we would never act towards the Suna in a way that could hurt y/n. So in that case, yes.” Kakashi replied.
The Raikage slammed his hand into the table. You immediately sent a shield out towards Gaara and in front of Kakashi, Gaara sent out his sand towards you. “So the Leaf Village and the Sand Village share the strength of the strongest kunoichi as we just have to allow it?”
Gaara looked over to you, giving you a nod to let you know you can take his shield down as his sand lessened. “Essentially. Yes.”
The three Kage sighed knowing that everything Gaara said was true, disapproving of the relationship would help no one in the long run, the union and alliance was already there.
“Well, I’m all for young love!” The Mizukage smiled as she got up since there was no further discussion to be had, “Lord Kazekage who could’ve thought that you would cause all this drama,” she laughed as she walked out.
Izumi walked over to Gaara, “I uh, I uh, I accidentally asked out y/n, but that was before I knew and don’t worry she turned me down.”
“I knew she would,” Gaara replied, giving the young flustered shinobi a pat on the back. He looked over at you, finally after all this time, after all this waiting he can finally be yours. Gaara made his way over to you, Shikamaru and Kakashi. Passing The Raikage and Tsuchikage along the way, overhearing Killer B’s new rap song about this.
You smiled as you looked at him. You were still behind Kakashi and Shikamaru. “We’ll give you guys a minute.” Kakashi said getting up and dragging Shikamaru behind him.
“What a drag- I wanted to hear!” Shikamaru sighed.
“Hey you.” you blushed as it was just the two of you in the room now.
“Hi.” he replied, his hand finding yours.
“Can’t believe you really told 3 nations they weren’t strong enough to start a war.” You laughed.
“Can’t believe they really thought they had a say.” he sighed as he rested his forehead against yours.
“So, we have everyone’s approval now.” you blushed.
“Yeah, we do.” Gaara whispered.
“So, what now?”
“I assume you’re available tonight?”
“You would assume correctly.”
“I’ll come by the Inn around 6:00.” he replied, “I have some paperwork to finish up but then I promise, it’s just you and me.”
“Just you and me,” you blushed. “Finally,” you laughed as Gaara took your hand and led you outside.
Shikamaru was waiting for you outside of the building, walking up to you as Gaara left to head to the Kazekage’s tower.
“So y/n? You got a boyfriend?” Shikamaru snickered.
“Oh shut up!” you blushed as you pushed him.
“Hey after all that fighting with The Elders you better, I’m on my mom’s bad side right now and trust me, you do not want to be on the receiving end of that.”
“Yeah I guess that’s true, but hey after all this you and Temari getting together should be a breeze.” you teased.
“Oh man - I thought you forgot about that.”
“Forgot about it? That means if we all get married you’ll officially become my brother in law! Which by the way, I have a date with Gaara at 6:00 which means Temari should be free as well.” you replied, nudging into him.
“6:00 huh? I mean I guess I could ask what she’s up to.”
“She’s up to nothing, go ask you dummy!” You whispered as you could spot Temari on the walls. You and Shikamaru made your way up to her.
Kakashi heard a knock on his door, “huh? I wonder who that could be.” he asked himself as he went to open the door. To his surprise it was the red headed Kazekage, “Gaara. I didn’t expect to see you here.”
“My apologies if I have disturbed you.” Gaara replied.
“Not at all,” Kakashi answered, motioning to let Gaara into the room.
“I hope you know my plan is to not marry y/n right away. I want to do things the way normal shinobi would.”
“Well you’re not one to beat around the bush,” Kakashi laughed, “I figured you would take it slow.”
“But I do want to ask your permission to be in a relationship with her.”
“Was the permission of everyone else not enough?” Kakashi asked, sitting against the desk in the room.
“The only permission I only cared about, was yours.” The young Kazekage replied, looking up at the older Hokage.
“Why mine?”
“Out of anyone in the world, y/n respects you the most, she does look to you as her father.”
Kakashi nodded his head, he saw you the same way. Although he never had kids of his own, he did occasionally accidentally refer to you as his daughter in conversations with his friends.
“Well, the two of you have had my permission since the war.” Kakashi replied, laying his hand on Gaara’s shoulder.
“The- the war?”
“Out of a sea of a thousand shinobi, your sand would always find its way to her. It’s something a father would want. It’s what her father, the third hokage, and her uncle would’ve wanted.”
Gaara felt his cheeks getting red. “That’s such a small detail. I didn’t think people would notice.”
“I doubt a lot of them did. Although it did catch the attention of her grandfather, it even caught the attention of Hashirama and Tobirama.” Kakashi laughed, “You’re not a Uchiha so if anything Tobirama was a little relieved.”
“Thank you, Kakashi.” Gaara whispered as he turned to leave.
“Just make sure she doesn’t overdo it with her teleportation jutsu okay?”
“I promise.”
