June 18th, 2019: Congratulations to Kanasue (叶季) of Kawahisa (川久) in Miyagawa Cho on the occasion of her misedashi! She is the second imōto of Kanachisa (叶千沙), also of Kawahisa, to debut this year and the seventh maiko from her district. Miyagawa Cho went through a debut slump a few years ago, but they’re clearly making up for it now! Her outfit is full of classical summer motifs and has a special emphasis on yellow/gold. Her kimono features insect cages, which are a common motif in the summer as they’re used to trap and hold fireflies. The cages are surrounded by iconic summer flowers, such as morning glories, carnations, and pampas grass. Her obi, while made for summer, shows lavish chrysanthemums and chrysanthemum leaves; although we tend to associate chrysanthemums with autumn, they are considered suitable to wear all year long! Her collar is decorated with bell flowers and waves while her obiage matches it with a plethora of beaded bell flowers. Her hair keeps it somewhat simple with a warm gold color of tortoise shell that’s in the shape of pine trees and a kanokodome made from brass and coral in the shape of a butterfly. This type of kanokodome is commonly worn by junior maiko in Miyagawa Cho ^^ おめでとうさんどす叶季ちゃん ^o^! Images are courtesy of Kawahisa Okiya and Ochaya.

February 25th, 2019: Congratulations to Kanaemi (叶笑) of Kawahisa (川久) in Miyagawa Cho on the occasion of her misedashi! She is the imōto of the Kawahisa atotori Kanachisa (叶千沙), who is an accomplished natori geiko. The turnout wasn’t too large as most people were over in Kamishichiken for Baikasai (which I’ll post about later), but it was a beautiful day with excellent weather! おめでとうさんどす叶笑ちゃん ^o^!
