I love how gentle he is with Pomni and Ragatha. He'd be such a good dad! Figured that might be fun to write about.
If you like my work, please consider commissioning me or leaving a tip on Ko-fi (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶)
Kinger as a father figure
★ Once, he tried teaching you to play chess. You had a hard time understanding the rules, and Kinger forgot a few of them. But it was still fun! "The knight is the horse. The rook is the tower looking thing." He held up the king. "No clue what this one does!"
★ Kinger calls you, and many others, "kid" unironically. It's a simple nickname that makes you feel warm. Fitting because he's the oldest member of the circus. When you're scared, he says it more often.
★ He's such a girl dad to Ragatha and Pomni, despite neither being his actual kids. He fusses over them when given the opportunity. Actually. Scratch that. He's a father figure to everyone ...Yes, including Jax.
★ Kinger can't remember your birthday. But he remembers how you like your tea! How much sugar you like, and handing it to you at just the right temperature. Gangle likes milk tea. Ragatha gets honey in hers. Jax? He prefers sweet tea mixed with lemonade.
★ Jax gets away with far too much. Kinger has a "he's just a kid" mindset, given that Jax is young. He doesn't know any better. (He does.) So Kinger gives him a bit too much leeway. "I'm sure it's just a phase." That, and he forgets how often Jax causes real harm.
All are fluff, some stuff can be made out as suggestive if you think REALLY hard. Bottom and top talk is meant as ROLES in the relationship
While yes, I believe Kinger gets flustered by Queenie very easily, I don't believe that he's the 'bottom' in the relationship
Queenie is just confident about what she wants, that doesn't mean she's the man of the relationship
Kinger LOVES Queenie's eyes, he could absolutely get lost in them for years on end
He's not a very great artist, but he likes to draw his wife surrounded by butterflies and flowers
Once Queenie started teaching him about bugs, he was a little surprised at the fact that he enjoyed the topic! (Definitely not because his wife was the one yapping about it)
He's not too outgoing and isn't very fond of large crowds of people, so he cherishes his alone time with his wife
Whenever he had to be around a lot of people, his wife's presence or even simply thinking about her would help him get chill out
Queenie really likes to touch her husband. Even in the real world, she couldn't keep his hands off of him
Running fingers through his hair, caressing his face, hugging him, resting her face against his chest that she loves so much, just give it all to her!
She's never even been this touchy with her past partners, and that makes Kinger feel a little special (even if he can barely handle her touch sometimes)
Might be projecting, but I think Queenie LOVES to draw, and is also good at it!
She's definitely caught Kinger peeking at her sketches and blobs of information about various insects, which honestly makes her heart melt
I feel like she'd be more devastated about the fact tat they can't really kiss now that they're chess pieces
Speaking of kissing, I think that's the one area Kinger can easily overwhelm her in. Which she loves!
I honestly couldn't tell you who loves cuddling more. They would both give anything just to curl up into each other after long, tiring days at work
Queenie initiates tickling. Kinger ends up defeating her.
Kinger loves her laugh so much. He loves her smile. Oh he just loves HERRR
Queenie thinks the best seat in the world is his lap
Okay that's all I got for now. Might think of more things later!!!!!!111
Does anyone else feel like Ragatha and Kinger would make a nice couple?
OKAY JUST HEAR ME OUT FOR A BIT HEAR ME OUT!!
Like, Kinger has that sort of realness but accepting attitude that I think Ragatha needs in her life, someone to just listen to her real feelings and help her process them without judgement. And Ragatha being patient and understanding, I think Kinger would appreciate someone who doesn't force him into being "sane" when he's not in the darkness.
Also, I feel like she'd be there to offer that sympathy and patience that Kinger needs to process his wife's abstraction, helping him move on by giving him the space and support he needs. And Kinger, knowing that it's important to make your loved ones feel loved, would let Ragatha know when he can that he appreciates her kind gestures towards him, which I think Ragatha REALLY needs to hear because she does all these nice things for people, but never gets any sort of thank you nor appreciation in return. In fact, she seemed almost shocked that Pomni was thanking her, and she didn't even take the appreciation fully, immediately flipping it back by saying "Oh we care about you!" because she's so afraid of seeming selfish.
This interaction was also very sweet, Kinger offered some objective advice and comforted Ragatha through her worries, helping her realize what Pomni is goinh through and also helping her relate to the circus members better than what she could do on her own.
God I absolutely love Kinger so much as a character, after episode 3 I hold him so close to my heart, he's seriously one of the most genuine, kind, insightful, and caring characters I've seen in a while. And I know that this kind of wisdom wasn't just given, it was earned.
If we're following the theory that Baron Mildenhall is a parallel to Kinger, I think Kinger must have been a huge and ignorant jerk to those who loved him in the past, and this behaviour caused his wife to abstract.
"I know how it can feel in this... circus. Sometimes it all just feels... Pointless.
But it's not. Not if you have people that care about you. Good memories can do a lot. Hold onto them, and cherish the people around you...
You'll never know when they'll be gone."
These expressions don't really scream "nostalgia" to me, but regret. I think after his wife abstracted, Kinger finally realized how deeply his actions must have affected his loved ones. And he learned over time that the only way to be happy in this circus is by being kind to others and never letting someone think they're not wanted or loved.
This is something Ragatha already seems to know by her actions, but I think hearing someone understand it too, tell her that they learned this lesson personally, it could help her feel seen and understood. Not only that, but it would also help her understand that she doesn't have to destroy herself in order to be a good person.
Because if someone who was so terrible in the past could do it, could choose kindness every day and redeem themselves from their mistakes, then so can she.
I think it'll help her be a better friend overall, maybe even more understanding to Jax. Not scolding him first no matter what, and instead taking her time to ensure she never handles a situation in black and white. I have a feeling Ragatha handles morality in a very "good vs evil" way and has trouble seeing the nuances in things, but Kinger does. He knows what it's like to feel regret for your actions, but he also knows that it's never too late to be a better person, and so he passes this lesson onto Pomni and he could very much do it for Ragatha as well.
I dunno I think they'd make a nice couple, not a popular ship like bunnydoll or buttonblossom, but it could work very well considering their flaws and what they need to hear.
Headcanons that eventually I’m going to turn into an AU once I figure out how to make a Visual Novel:
- Kinger taught Queenie how to use a gun, with deadly accuracy
-Queenie was much better at building the pillow fort than Kinger
-The pillow fort used to have fairy lights
-The pillow fort also used to have blankets to make it a little more comfortable
-Queenie’s weapon of choice would be a machete
-If Kinger knew how, he would’ve hidden Queenie in his room when she abstracted
-The fact that he didn’t still haunts him to this day
-Kinger kept himself away from the others after Queenie’s abstraction in fear that he’d hurt somebody
-The others had a secret meeting to vote on what they should do with Kinger after Queenie’s abstraction (they thought it wasn’t going to be long before Kinger abstracted, so they treated him like he was a threat)
-Kinger could do nothing but stare silently at Queenie’s picture during her funeral, he looked like he was on the verge of crying but couldn’t get it out
-Kinger and Queenie were absolutely the mom and dad of the group, and were essentially the leaders
-Kinger wishes that he could remember the others, but only when he’s in darkness for an extended period of time + has something to remind him with he can get glimpses or random facts about them
-Kinger used to go into Queenie’s room all the time to sob into one of her robes (“If he isn’t in his room, then he’s crying in Queenie’s”)
-Ragatha is Queenie’s successor, so she got to witness Kinger’s descent into insanity
-Dobby made the king and queen chess pieces (of their respective colors) to look like Kinger and Queenie, which he showed to them in the pillow fort
-After Queenie’s death, the black queen chess piece went missing, it only showed back up after Dobby’s death in front of his door
-If Kinger went into one of the abstracted player’s rooms, he’d be able to remember them
-Kinger’s room is a complete mess, much like Kaufmo’s, but everything is torn apart and Queenie’s name is scribbled all over the walls along with “I’M SORRY”, “WHAT IS HER NAME?”, “WHAT ARE THEIR NAMES?”, “IT’S MY FAULT”, and a bunch of other things
-Kinger’s hyperfixation on bugs started whenever he went into Queenie’s room, got all stressed out, broke the butterfly enclosure, and one landed on his hand (It grounded him to reality)
-Dobby and Ragatha quickly became friends, and were the only ones who defended Kinger during those secret meetings (mostly Dobby because Ragatha was kind of scared of Kinger)
-The worm-on-a-string abstracted first while Kinger was on a solo adventure with Caine, so Kinger had no clue what happened and came back to his friend being dead (he didn’t believe she was truly gone at first because it’s already been established that they can’t die)
-anyways so whenever Queenie abstracted, Kinger was the one who discovered her, you can only imagine how that went
-Dobby was 16 (nearly 17) when he joined the circus, and the only minor TO join the circus
-Dobby was a volunteer as C&A
-Dobby was very close to Queenie and Kinger, so after Queenie’s abstraction, basically both of them died that night so Dobby did not last long after their deaths
-The “Originals” to the circus are: Kinger, Queenie, Dobby, the purple bat-rat, and the worm-on-a-string
-Back then, adventures were pretty much once a week since Caine was still new at this
-Kinger and Queenie were the lead programmers in making the circus, so Kinger felt personally guilty for everyone being there and made it his personal mission to get everyone out. Queenie on the other hand, understood that it wasn’t their fault this happened, and was Kinger’s voice of reason when he started to spiral because of it
-After the worm’s death Kinger was hellbent on finding and exit even more, he stopped listening to Queenie’s reasonings
-Abstraction terrified Kinger, the thought of any more of his loved ones succumbing to it kept him up at night
-Kinger was around the other’s less because of him desperately trying to find an exit (which also led to him accidentally neglecting his wife)
-Now Kinger wishes that he spent more time with them, and that he tried harder to stay sane for them
-After Kinger went crazy, any sense of normalcy and structure fell apart
-The worm, Queenie, and Dobby’s abstractions were only months apart from each other, with Queenie and Dobby’s being much closer (The rest only lasted for like a year before abstracting)
-Abstraction is a parallel to suicide (poor Kinger did not know that until he almost abstracted)
-While they technically don’t need to sleep, they can still get mentally tired and sleep anyways
-Kinger and Queenie flip flopped between who’s room they’d sleep in (they always slept in the same bed, or just with each other in the pillow fort)
//I will be deleting this once I start the Visual Novel, these are mostly just facts and scenes I’ve been thinking about since October
//Be warned that these will change based on what routes you take, especially the order of abstraction and character relationships
Episode 9 Spoilers for "The amazing digital Circus" ahead.
Topic: Something something german voice actor something something enjoyable head canon.
So, the German voice actor of Kinger Charly has the headcanon that Kinger regularly goes down to the Abstractions and reads them - especially Queenie - some stories at night.
The darkness calms them, so Queenie even recognizes him in some way and listens. She might even enjoy it.
This is extremely cute, therefore I will make this my personal headcanon as well and wanted to share this.
Became autistic about TADC, especially the funny chess guy. So, here's some headcanons below (also considering writing a fic)
Kinger Headcanons
- Kinger prior to the circus needed glasses, post Queenie abstracting, his eyesight has little moments of becoming fuzzy again - but its bearable and not constant
- Something that is constant though, is his hearing. Within the circus, he often feels as if he is being spoken to underwater. Think how it feels when you have water in your ears, you can still hear but its distant- like that, it dulls a little in the darkness though
- A little self indulgent but he's autistic, he has a habit of trying to be helpful but coming across as rude or prestigious (this is not helped by his mental state or lack thereof)
- He's very fidgety, he often has to be holding onto something or fidgeting with his own hands, it's a stim but also a grounding tactic
- Prior to the circus, ironically enough, Queenie and Kinger bonded over a game of chess, they had no idea of the implications to come from this
- Kinger has always been a little paranoid and anxious, even prior to everything happening, I like to think thats why he knows his way around guns and such (presuming hes unfortunately American). He's never actually used one against anyone, but it soothed his brain a little to have one
- He doesn't realise that he comes across as fatherly towards the others, hes doing it out of genuine care for them and I can imagine its gonna be a shock the day he realises
- He's really bad at art, drawing, painting, anything of the sort, he likes to think he can write semi decently but it often ends up in nonsensical rambles
- He has the ability to turn any insult against him into something positive, this is why Jax has little impact on him
- Kinger and Queenie were part of the Circus' development team, but they had no idea of what was to happen from it - Kinger thought it would be something fun / positive for others to play, that it would literally just be a game- and he had always wanted to help people out in that way - it took him a LONG while to get over his guilt regarding it and to realise it wasn't his fault (it still hits him sometimes, especially when hes missing Queenie)
- His emotions, such as his guilt, grief or trauma, are often exacerbated or confused further by his mental state. This led to him not grieving Queenie for a while until it suddenly hit him again, and then he forgot all about it, and re-remembered again (its a cycle)
(I'll probably add more and Headcanons are subjected to change)
(Edited Feb.03.2025 -- It looked too cluttered, so I've done some cleaning)
General
Because I feel that the digital plane (or the Void, which I think contains the data Caine uses to make his adventures) that TADC is located in is loosely connected to the Human World, it does have access to any data information available. It just needs to be looked for.
While no one needs to eat, drink, or sleep to survive, the act of sleeping still has its benefits. As for why I think that sleep can still be beneficial, one word: Burnout (a state of emotional, mental, and often physical exhaustion brought on by prolonged or repeated stress). So, while sleep isn’t necessary for survival, it can help prevent burnouts.
Going off from this, I think that psychosomatic responses can still occur since it's a result of psychological stress.
Serious injury can still occur if the injury is caused by a bug or a virus (but not jumbling caused by Abstraction)
On bad mental health days, if a player can harm themselves.
Instead of blood, players have 'vital code', which takes most of their insides underneath their avatar and is dual-colored with a shimmering third color. AIs and NPCs also have 'vital codes', but Advanced AIs have a single color with a shimmering second color while regular NPCs have only one color.
The food they eat and beverages they drink does feel and taste like the real world counterpart, except they also have a staticky texture and aftertaste to it. It takes some getting used to.
Was bullied a lot as a kid because she was painfully shy
Has lost her father to cancer as a teenager and her mother became emotionally unavailable after the loss (...what? Th-This has nothing to do with my love for the father/daughter dynamic between Kinger and Pomni!)
During nights she can’t sleep in her room, she sleeps in Kinger’s fort for comfort (...shut up)
Does like video games, but doesn’t like horror games. But, she’s willing to watch Gangle play a horror game as long as she has a blanket or pillow to hide behind. Most games Pomni plays are usually more light hearted.
Does gain a slight liking to anime, thanks to Gangle
Snorts when laughing hard enough. She’s embarrassed of this though, but the others find it endearing since it's rare for her to get a hardy laugh.
Among the items she bought at the Gift Shop, one was a plush of Gummigoo. It was an impulse purchase and she has mixed feelings over this.
Was from a big family and the oldest child. She was forced to watch and care for her younger siblings because her parents are either too busy or too exhausted. Ragatha occasionally wonders how her brothers and sisters are doing since she’s been gone.
While she does love her family, she bites down her frustration over not having an active social life.
Enjoys tea. Its soothing.
Ragatha is definitely a mom friend thanks to her home life.
If she has any rips or loose limbs, she’ll sew herself back together. She rarely (never) asks for help for hard to reach places.
Was the main cook for the group until Zooble stepped in so she could take a break. At some point, Ragatha, Zooble, and Gangle would rotate on who’s cooking.
Bit of a delinquent during high school and always getting into trouble with authorities and his father.
He was still in high school when he came to the circus
Kaufmo was actually his best friend in the circus since he was reminded of his old friend back in the Human World and felt betrayed that Kaufmo didn’t open up to him.
In fact, Jax was more tolerable when around Kaufmo
Can play the guitar and is a pretty decent singer.
Enjoys Caine’s adventures more than video games since its way more immersive (since he's actually participating directly)
Was thoroughly upset when he (literally) couldn’t get drunk on his 21st birthday
Under the assumption they were married prior to entering the game, Kinger and Queenie renewed their vows in the circus. Caine even created them new rings. Kinger still has Queenie’s ring after she Abstracted.
Kinger feels guilty over his wife’s Abstraction, believing that he caused her to feel unloved/unwanted.
While Kinger may not remember full of his time with Pomni at the manor, his feelings of fatherly protection towards Pomni is still present, often acting on instinct when he feels Pomni is in distress. Depending on the situation, and state of mind, results vary.
Has unknowingly adopted Pomni and Gangle as his daughters (they are 23 and 22 years apart from him respectively, so it works)...or Pomni and Gangle had adopt him as their father. Whichever came first.
Among the bugs Kinger had grown fond of, he has a greater affinity for butterflies
Has tried to help Ragatha with her fear of centipedes. It failed. Ragatha was grateful though.
Along with Pomni, Kinger isn’t trusted with cooking by himself. Its not like he’s a bad cook, he’s just more likely to cause a fire because he forgot he left the stove on or something in the oven.
There was a one year period where Kinger was the only player in TADC
He earned a Masters in computer science in two years before marrying Queenie, who he met in the same college.
Has sketched drawings of her fellow players, sometimes in different outfits depending on their body type and preferences
Has drawn for her fellow players, usually of stuff they like (such as Ragatha’s love for horses and Kinger with bugs)
A bit of a covert pervert to some degree and a little embarrassed by it. She only shared this bit of information about herself to Zooble when they found a copy of the Highschool of the Dead manga on the floor. Zooble agreed to keep it a secret after Gangle begged.
During the one year period with just Kinger, Caine was surprised how hard it was to maintain a single player from teetering close to the deep end. So, he kept close company with Kinger until a new arrival came along. Since then, he emphasized more on group efforts. (go ahead RoyalTeethshippers. Use this to your heart’s content^^)
As mentioned in the General Headcanons, Caine has taken account of what transpired during his therapy session with Zooble (excluding moments Zooble said ‘nevermind’ or ‘forget it’) and tries to make sure that his adventures won’t lead to horrible experiences…however…
Among the few things Caine doesn’t have control over is what exactly happens during these adventures. Yes, he made them, plots, characters, and all, but whatever happens depends on the ‘adventure’s’ responses to the player’s choice. How’s your wife, Kinger? felt too targeted at the moment, considering the Super Scary Door was originally intended for Zooble and I don’t think Caine bothered to change anything himself. So, depending on the NPC’s given personality, they can act more antagonistic towards the players depending on choices made.
At first, Caine didn't know what to do with the Abstracted when the players first started turning into them. It was through Queenie's Abstraction and her time in Kinger's fort when Caine learned that the Abstracted are calmed in the dark. So, he made a dark place for the Abstracted in the Cellar.
The undeniable urge to draw Kinger jamming out to “the politics of dancing” because I’m incapable of not doing a little shimmy when it comes on. I need this man to be the kind of guy who sings while he mops.
