Party
Loki x Reader [A/N] My lovely anon, I'll be so honest, I'm not sure I have enough rizz to write this prompt the way you wanted, I'm so sorry 😭 So I wrote this, hopefully you still enjoy! ❤️
You stand against the wall, watching as Thor makes his rounds through the party. If there’s any excuse to have a celebration, Thor is sure to find it. It hadn’t been that long since his last one and today you’re exhausted from training. Sif had worked you particularly hard, and all you really wanted to do was retreat to your room and read. You at least want Thor to see your face, so you’re stuck here whilst he does his rounds. Of course you could approach him, but then he’d no doubt drag you into a group conversation that you wouldn’t find an excuse to leave. Then you’d get pulled into the dancing… You’re even more exhausted just thinking about it.
“Hard day?”
Loki’s voice captures your attention and you turn your head to face him, “What makes you say that?”
“I grow tired of Thor’s celebrations too,” Loki says. “I’ve learned to recognise the signs.”
“I thought after his last party Odin would’ve denied him this time.”
Loki scoffs, “Please. He would never deny Thor anything, not his-”
He cuts himself off and you glance at him, surprised, “Is everything okay with you and Thor?”
“Of course. We’re just… Different.”
You hum thoughtfully, glancing at Thor again who is cheering, always laughing, smiling, surrounded by people. It’s true; Loki is quieter, more thoughtful. He and Thor couldn’t be more different if they tried. “There’s nothing wrong with that.”
“I never said there was.”
You roll your eyes, used to Loki by this point. You’d grown up with him and Thor, part of their friend group since you were young. For every victory, for every defeat, you’d been by their sides. You’d never really been closer to one than the other; it was Sif who had always been your closest friend in the group. As your gaze falls back on Thor, you can’t help feeling a sudden closeness with Loki. You’re not like Thor, able to command a room the moment you walk into it. You’re quieter, more reserved – like Loki.
“It’ll be his birthday again soon,” You offer. “That’ll be bigger and better than last year’s presumably.”
“Whenever I think he can’t top his last birthday, he finds a way,” Loki says. “Well… As long as he’s happy.”
He still sounds bitter and you feel a stab of sympathy. Odin has never shied away from the fact that Thor is his favourite. He might not be so blatant about it but it’s still obvious to anyone that’s paying attention. You were, and you knew Loki certainly was. Luckily he seemed close to his mother, Frigga, someone you greatly respected. His Father’s rejection must still sting a little though. Perhaps it was causing a rift between the brothers.
As you open your mouth to speak, he beats you to it, “Do you want a drink?”
You hesitate, “I don’t know. I wasn’t going to stay long, just until Thor saw my face-”
“Oh come on. I can’t get out of this early so I don’t see why you should. Stay and keep me company.”
“The others are here-”
“You know you’re my favourite though.”
You’re so taken aback by his statement that you don’t protest when he pours you a drink, handing you the tankard. As you take a sip, you mull his words over. Did you know you were his favourite? Was that something he said to everybody? He’s taking a long swig of his own drink as if he hadn’t made such a comment, as if it didn’t matter. Maybe you were closer to him than you’d realised or maybe he was just trying to rile you up. It wouldn’t be the first time. The alcohol goes down easily and you sigh, “I think I’m going to need several to get through this.”
“My sentiments exactly,” Loki agrees. “Let’s get another bottle, fill the damn thing to the brim.”
You clink your tankard against his, both of you knocking back drink after drink, turning it into a bit of a game. At one point you take a drink every time you hear Thor’s voice rise above everyone else’s – you can’t help spluttering with laughter when you both take a drink for the tenth time within thirty seconds, and Loki ends up joining in. You don’t see him laugh that often, you wish he’d do it more often.
After knocking back a few drinks you can feel yourself enjoying the party more and more, feeling looser, your head lighter. Loki’s hand is on your arm as he talks, and you find that you don’t mind. Has he always smelt so good? It’s earthy and warm, something you’d never noticed before. The music gets louder, the crowd rowdier, and Loki leans down right by your face so you can hear him better.
“I saw you training with Sif today,” He says. “You’re getting good. Better than her.”
You roll your eyes, “No way. Sif is like, the best of the best-”
“Not anymore. You’ve far surpassed her abilities now.”
He’s wrong, you know he is. But you can’t help leaning into him all the same, lapping up his compliments. It wasn’t that you were a bad fighter, but you’d never been the best. Not within the team, certainly not compared to Sif. You have been working hard – maybe it’s finally been paying off.
You take another sip of your drink, “I didn’t realise you were watching me.”
“I watch you a lot. I’m surprised you never noticed.”
You feel your cheeks burn and you can’t tear your eyes away from his, “And why have you been watching me?”
He smirks, his eyes lighting up, “Oblivious. Of course you are.”
You meet his gaze, thinking for the first time ever how handsome he is. Loki had never really crossed your mind like that, if you were being honest. In fact, for a long time you’d tried to convince yourself that you had feelings for Thor. Sif talked about him often enough, and it wasn’t like half the kingdom weren’t throwing themselves at him. He was strong, charismatic, and he was clearly attractive. There was just something not quite it for you though.
For a moment you let yourself imagine Loki’s arms around you, as you both sit by a warm fire. You head leant against his chest as he reads quietly from a book, closing your eyes as you let the warmth and his voice wash over you. It’s such a vivid scene that you have to look away, hoping he doesn’t notice how affected you are.
You’ve had too much to drink. This always happens at these celebrations though it’s usually Thor’s doing. Tonight it’s Loki’s and you can tell by the way he holds onto your arm, partly just so he can touch you, but also to keep himself upright, that he’s just as drunk as you are.
This was Loki though. Your friend who delighted so often in tricking you when you were children. Who used to sneak out of the palace to lend you a book he’d found in the library, who would spend hours staring at the sky with you, talking about the universes beyond your own. He’d been the first to congratulate you after your first successful battle, and he was there when Odin himself had-
Oh.
Loki’s nose brushes against your cheek, and you realise that he’s right – you have been oblivious. Not just to Loki’s feelings, but your own. “You know, I’m not sure the drink helped,” Loki says. “Maybe we should’ve stuck with your original plan.”
“My- My original plan?”
“To go to your chambers.”
He whispers directly into your ear, and you feel a shiver run down your spine. His voice is low and suggestive, and you know immediately what he wants, but you try to play dumb, “To read? I’m in the middle of the most… Fascinating book.”
“I’m sure it is fascinating,” Loki whispers, “and I’d love to hear all about it. But I have something different in mind for tonight.”
Before you can even react his lips have met yours in an innocent, almost tentative kiss. He pulls back slightly, as if checking you’re okay when you suddenly close the distance again, tasting the warm mead lingering on his tongue. The kiss starts off slow, almost loving, until it gets hotter and heavier. You feel Loki’s arms around you, practically lifting you off your feet and you gasp into his mouth, just about managing to whisper, “My chambers sound good.”
You’re not sure either of you will make it there. For every step you take, you begin kissing again, his arms around your waist, your hands in his hair, him tugging at your clothes, your fingers brushing his shoulders as if you can’t get enough of each other.
No, you’d never considered Loki like this before. Perhaps it’s the drink fuelling you on but you realise it has to be something more than that. You’ve lain with other men before, of course, but this is different. You can feel the chemistry crackling between the two of you. Loki pulls back just enough to mumble against your lips, “I knew it. One day, we will rule Asgard together. Just as it was meant to be.”
It’s only later, when your head is lying against his bare chest, both of you naked and breathless in your bed, that you fully process what he’d said. Ruling Asgard together… Thor was the one destined for the throne. Everyone knew that. It must’ve been the alcohol. Just a random musing that he hadn’t actually meant… Of course it was. Loki was loyal to his brother, to his family, as you all were.
Just the alcohol. That was all. You nuzzle into his chest, feeling his fingers run up and down your bare back. Loki’s good. You have no reason to doubt that. And now… Maybe he’s yours.
