Day 3 of this awesome #NewYearInKindness today we touch a very dear theme, to me: kindness towards nature! It's always easier to be kind towards nature, I think. I can't wait to go to the mountains to be totally immersed in nature and we'll do everything, as usual, ecologically. We're going on our GPL car, cooking on electric plates, in a house where the heat was off until later today, we're going on trails and picking up anything some folks may have left, and buying local. Let’s talk about Lotus Mudra. Grip strength is critical for a pull-up, as well as maintaining a supple, mobility to adapt the grip.

Many commercial gyms have multiple grips on their pull-up bars, along with weighted, or banded assistance. Rotating the grip, forearms, and shoulders to a narrow grip, with elbows in a 90° angle maybe more attainable for narrow shoulders, lighter builds, and underdeveloped upper bodies. This grip is more efficient with abdominal and leg engagement rather than the back in wide grip or the bicep driven chin-up.

Lotus Mudra is that feisty little flower that looks like jazz hands and silliness, though it’s rooted in the same muddy muck as the rest of us. When it’s elevated, it looks like a crown. It’s easy to underestimate the energy it takes to raise it high. If you can’t ascend from the root or belly, try entering from above and plunge into the posture. Thumbs and pinkies together while the remaining digit flare out. You can rest the thumbs under the chin for additional stretching of the palm. This refreshes tired shoulders, preps for goblet squats, and helps with wrist fatigue after typing, swiping, and daily technology interaction.
