Song Review(s): Widespread Panic - “Maggot Brain” → “Love Tractor” (Live, June 26, 2026)
The whole band is cookin’, but anyone who didn’t know Nick Johnson was filling in temporarily would be staggered to learn the news after taking in Widespread Panic’s June 26 rendition of “Maggot Brain.”
Handling lead-guitar duties while Jimmy Herring undergoes cancer treatment, Johnson seems as comfortable as a longtime member on this moody Funkadelic cover. Just as importantly, Johnson captures the essence of the instrumental, and the essence of Panic, while finding to express himself as well.
It was surely a daunting challenge in front of a sold-out Red Rocks, but Johnson pulled it off. And when drummer Duane Trucks signaled the segue to “Love Tractor,” the band transitioned flawlessly into the light, skittering melody, which immediately devoured previous number.
It’s quite the shift, but the just-released, pro-shot video proves it was not awkward in any way. And when Johnson conjures the spirit of Michael Houser on the outro, it’s clear he’s the right guy in the right place at the right time.
Grade card: Widespread Panic - “Maggot Brain” → “Love Tractor” (Live - 7/2/26) - A+/A-

My status: finished the whole drama
My thoughts: I love the adaptation. It was very well made. Although the characters don’t match visually wise but acting wise the actors did a fantastic job capturing their characters. Especially, Yoon Do-jin as Seo Ye-chan. Yoon Do-Jin managed to capture the cute adorable side of Yechan and brought it to live in the live adaptation. Same with Do Won as Seon Yul who worked alongside Do-Jin to bring our beloved character Seon Yul to live. I have loved this adaptation but not more than the manwha itself.
My rating: I’d give it a solid 9/10. Love the acting, and how it was made but there still was something lacking that I can’t really pinpoint tbh…but still a very well done piece.

My thoughts: This manwha is the most cutest thing I have ever read. Honestly the chemistry they have between them is adorable. I love how the artist didn’t make this a stereotypical manwha where the big looking guy is the top and the smaller looking guy is the bottom.
My rating: 9.5/10

Honestly? I donno what i expected after reading the comments about this manhwa on reddit. Altho artstyle was pretty okay, and I really love the main characters' designs, the undertone of the story is kinda eerie. Maybe Im old or smt, but I think consent is sexy, so..
