- does not mean "basically a allistic person"

low supports means low compared to other autistic people! still need a lot of support compared to a neurotypical able bodied person.

ASD Levels Pride Flags

Colors taken from my autism support needs flags (link), while the nautilus comes from @ipso-faculty's autism pride flags (link).

Althought ASD levels and supports needs aren't strickly the same concepts, they're often used interchangably and they're often directly linked, ence why I've choosen the colors of the autism support needs flags as a base.

In @ipso-faculty's flag the shell symbolises plural ideas: stylised verson of the Autism Spectrum Wheel, a fractal-like pattern that reminds the infinity symbols and a representation of our autistic metaphorical shells.

I've kept the same ideas in the design. Though, in addition, the different shades are linking each levels together, to highlight that they're diverse, complex yet an interconnected continuum.

Eye nystagmus 👀 (A condition which causes 24/7 involuntary eye movements. I have 30% of normal vision because of it)

(I don't know if I still fit the criteria for anxiety disorder and ocd but I still have symptoms of it)

My life situation 🏡⚒️ :

I live at a group home for mentally ill people since April the 4th 2025. From 25th April 2024 to 4th April 2025 I lived at a care home for intellectual disabled people but it wasn't a long term solution because I'm not intellectually disabled. From Monday to Thursday, I'm usually at a daycenter for 4 hours each day.

There are some issues at the new care home but I see it in a positive way. I see it as a motivation to reach my goal. My goal is the become more independent and mentaly stable to become it for semi independent living and living without a legal guardian. My independence and mental health improvement significantly in the last to months.

Why you will find old videos or messages from me where I said I'm MSN 🧩♿️ :

For relatively long time I thought I would be MSN autistic because I thought I couldn't do things I can do in reality. I developed like a MSN autistic person due to a good meant behaviour of my mom. She didn't animate me to be independent to reduce stress and at my first care home I thought it would be good for me to not do IADLS and get help with some ADLS to reduce stress and I also thought I couldn't to the tasks enough to stay healthy. Due to the new care home which animates me to be independent I realised that I'm LSN autistic. But it's not sure if I really was MSN at some point on my life or not.

I often say I was MSN because it's much easier/shorter than explaining this whole story and I also share a lot of experiences with MSN people due to living like that for the biggest part of my life.

My special connection to the topic military 🪖🎖🔫 :

I have a special connection to the topic military and military music 🎵🪖 . The topic military gives me motivation and military music also gives me motivation and can keep me calm / calm me down because military music is a kind of music which is slow and does not suddenly get faster or louder.

For me the topic military also has a spiritual aspect I feel like my soul was made to be in a soldier's body. I know I can't become a soldier but this imagination is really helpful. It hFelps me to stay motivated and be independent.

Information: People are allowed to asked me questions but I decide what I answer especially by some questions about the topic military music I feel unsafe to answer them.

I post about me gaining independence and mental stability but please keep in mind most higher support needs autistics never will reach the things I reach and that's okay and the experiences of higher support needs autistics also should be included ln the autism community.

I make much less posts than I used to due to engaging with the topic military, going into the woods and doing IADLS.

Hey there! Quick question: How do you differentiate between MSN and HSN when assessing care needs? Would HSN be for someone who needs help with basically every ADL and IADL? I’ve been a bit confused about my own support needs and thought I’d ask people who are HSN directly. Are there any nuances to consider when evaluating someone’s support needs?

Hey! I’ll answer as best I can and my partner/caretaker ( @officials-of-hell ) plans on reblogging with more information if needed :)

So first and foremost, support needs take into account all disabilities (both mental and physical). My autism alone is quite disabling, however the part that makes me so high support needs ultimately is the combination of that, my PTSD, DID, POTS, unknown GI issues, etc

Me personally, I cannot do much of anything without assistance and being monitored

The way I’ve found is the best way to determine MSN vs HSN (though I’ll also note that people can border between labels, which is shown by using LSN-MSN and MSN-HSN) is the intensity of what care you need. So what you mentioned of the iADLs and bADLs is pretty accurate

Someone who is LSN likely only really needs help with some iADLs (such as driving, making your bed, doing taxes, etc), while someone who’s MSN may need help with a few of both iADLs and bADLs (bathing, eating, getting dressed, etc), and someone who’s HSN will generally need help across the whole board

Using taxes and bathing/showering as my examples, I am incapable of processing taxes and need intense assistance in doing them or they won’t get done/won’t get done correctly. And when it comes to bathing/showering, my partner has to be in the shower with me, and often has to assist me in physically cleaning myself as getting wet is terrible sensory, and I have terrible anxiety about having my face being wet due to an accident in the ocean from my childhood (got caught in a current and pulled under). I need significant help to do anything except rot in bed (I will not get out of bed if I’m left to my own)

As for nuance? Really the biggest thing to it is determining what things you need the most help with in iADLs and bADLs and seeing if you need help specifically with a few of them, or if you need help across the board for both

Seems like you were already on the right track to figuring things out, and I 100% get where you’re at. Partner had to basically shove it in my face that I’m HSN before I actually even accepted it 😭 I was firmly convinced I wasn’t (I was a liar lol)

i will continue to say this until all of my fellow lsn autistics understand: we absolutely MUST focus on amplifying the voices of and supporting msn/hsn autistics! i will never stop following & reblogging posts from m/hsn autistics because some of us (lsn autistics) don't know how to get it together & realize that it isn't always about us! this doesn't mean i am trying to minimize our struggles or say that we don't have needs to be met because of course we do, but we also need to understand that just because we aren't in the spotlight 24/7 (which we are anyway when it comes to mainstream media but that's a topic for another day) doesn't mean that we get to overshadow m/hsn autistics who have needs that we shouldn't claim to understand because we aren't all the same. Just because we are all autistic doesn't mean that we can claim to understand the needs of someone who doesn't always share the same experiences as us.
