Linktober Day 10: Tunic
i feel like i always use the champion's tunic for this prompt. and i will do it again without remorse. anyway have you heard about the dear fellow soldier au, it's very good, i like this guy
today’s design is by @chiangyorange
textless version under cut
I wrote a tiny expansion to Twin Stranger for fun almost two months ago and finally decided I like it too much to leave it in my docs. A.K.A. Age (formerly Champion) and Wild braid each other's hair and talk about boys.
“Don’t you look nice,” Wild teases as he slips into the room.
Age glances at him, taking in the rich blue surcoat and burgundy tunic. His hair is glossy and sleek, having finally been washed after long days of travelling, and sits loose over his shoulders. Wild’s outfit looks similar to a royal guard’s uniform, but the fabric and vibrant colours speak of deeper pockets than even a royal guard has access to.
It’s a nice offset to Age’s own stunning crimson and gold attire. Despite the short notice of the ball they’re all stuck attending, neither of the outfits don’t look like they’re borrowed from someone else’s wardrobe; instead they look as though they were made to fit no one else but Wild and Age.
Whoever Warriors’ friends are, they’re magicians with tailoring cloth.
Wild twirls his finger at Age. “Turn.”
It’s not a request so, hiding his smile, Age turns. He feels Wild’s deft fingers brush through his hair and start parting, the gentle pull of hair as he begins to twist it into braids.
“Are you going to keep yours loose?” Age can’t help but ask.
Wild answers him through a mouthful of pins. “No, I’ll do mine in a second. But I wasn’t gonna leave yours down. Love him dearly, but Wars is only good for reviving hair, not styling it.”
It’s hard to not snort at that playful tease, even if Warriors isn’t here to defend himself. He’s far better than Wild is admitting aloud but because of the length his military's regulations force his hair to be, some of the intricacies of an updo escape him.
There’s a gentle slide of a cool pin against Age’s scalp, pressed firm into a whorl of braid.
“You’re good at this,” Age says over his shoulder. “This isn’t something you picked up on your quest alone, right?”
“No, I did Flora’s hair sometimes, before everything that happened.” Wild fiddles with something and another pin is slotted into place. “Usually when we’d return from her pilgrimages. And then when I decided I wasn’t going to cut my own, she taught me a few tricks and styles.”
It’s Age’s turn to tease. “And you haven’t passed anything to the others yet? Shame.”
Any good “The Chain Meets Age (age of calamity) Link?” It’s fine if he has other names I just call him that
A Timeline Over to Find Some Closure by @the-au-collector
Summary:
After the lackluster visit to the temple, the Chain finds themselves in a new Hyrule just as disagreements run high between them. When one of their own is injured and their life hangs in the balance, the Chain must confront their own issues--and each other--before time runs out.
featuring: Age of Calamity Link, Wild's fucked up past, and even more time travel headaches for everyone!
Oh How I Forgot What It's Like by @snail-studios
Summary:
Trapped in Ruta, faced with a shard of Ganon, injured, afraid– Mipha is sure she’s going to die. Until she’s rescued by nine strange boys- one of whom looks identical to her best friend and love of her life. Things just get weirder from there.
OR
Instead of Sidon, Yunobo, Riju and Teba, the Chain are the ones to rescue the Champions. With help from an ocarina, Terakko and a lot of red potions, chaos and family bonding ensues.
(And Age is just confused and absolutely not jealous, thank you very much. He’s just worried for his girlfriend, as he should be. Duh.)
Wayward Son by Serenity_V
Summary:
For a moment, Wild thought time must have passed too quickly in his world since the Chain had last set foot there, and he had somehow missed most of Castle Town’s reconstruction, not to mention Flora growing her hair back out. Then, he saw…himself.
OR the Chain gets dropped into AoC universe. Conversations ensue.
How To Build Friendships (side effects include getting emotionally destroyed) by El_Marnie
Summary:
The Chain ends up in a familiar Hyrule, but this isn't what Wild's era usually looks like.
The Chain-Meets-Age fic that no one asked for. YOU STILL HAVE TO READ IT THOUGH HA HA HA-
Does my writing style change multiple times throughout this thing? Yes, yes it does. I'm not sure why it's doing that. Please ignore it.
Tags will update as the story does. Content warnings in chapter notes. Archive warnings will probably change as I hurl these boys headlong into a violent bloodbath.
Also, yes, I KNOW it's another Wild-centric fic about Time being his dad but it's MY self-indulgent fanfics okay and I happen to LIKE Wild and YOU STILL HAVE TO READ IT HA HA HA HA
Age of Calamity by K3ttl3_gurl_784
Summary:
A new Link will join the ranks of the Chain. How will Wild take to his new position as mentor, and how will his successor view him?
________________________________________________________________________________________________ His name would be Calamity.
Scrubbed Clean by MarcusDoodlesALot
Summary:
They didn't expect this new Link. They didn't expect him to be a version of Wild, they didn't expect him to be so shy and quiet, and they didn't expect him to have nearly Pure White wings.
My Accent headcannons for the lu chain (and etc):
Time: was taught hylian by trees???? Almost has no tone/infliction in voice (he's working on it)
Malon: Tennessee accent all the way, with that nice hook at the end too (non southerners imagine dolly parton)
Lullaby: very formal proper hylian, dignitary style
Warriors: British military like he's reading from a manual
Sheik: I don't know much about her but the sheikah definitely take inspiration from Japan
Twilight: Appalachian accent as thick as raw honey (non appalachians have yall ever heard of one looking it up)
Midna: try 'n' convince me she don't have a loud ass Louisiana accent (non southerners go watch princess and the frog) (this is totally not for my Midna is African American agenda)
Dusk: real formal like n all that
Sky: That's a Midwesterner (he genuinely tried to get Wild and Rulie to eat jello salad once)
Sun: completely Midwestern
Groose: spends a lot of time around the other two^ but his parents are Gerudo (Arabic/middle eastern)
Four: the minish have always reminded me of the Icelandic tales of little elves
Dot: same formal accent, maybe more like Four's
Age/Cal(calamity): very formal british accent almost royal but also uses some Korean (Zora) words
Mipha: Korean accent (thicker than Sidon's)
Fauna: royal and tight lipped british
Wild: used to be more British (kinghts!), but now is more southern cause twilight has corrupted him
Flora: much more informal than the other zeldas
Legend: Scottish accent, but he usually hides it really well, so you can't really tell at all unless he's mad or tired
Fable: Scottish asf (non Scottish people imagine Merida)
Ravio: fairly normal, but if provoked, he will speak like an Italian mobster wife until he gets his way
Hyrule: Rulie is Irish or Welsh all the way (especially with half fae/fey Hyrule)
Dawn: pretty similar to Hyrule
Aurora: transatlantic accent!!!!!
Spirit: he's always reminded me of Hugo Cabret, so cockney british accent it is (this grates on War's patience)
Phantom: can be formal if she has to but usually just sticks with cockney as well
Wind: Okay look, I love scottish pirate Wind, but I raise you patois or creole pirate Wind
Tetra: Wind's accent but double the amount and also the volume she says it at
The Links and the Master Sword
Age: so how did you all get the Master Sword?
Sky: Well… I forged it myself
Legend: And I reforged it
Time: It was waiting for me in a temple
Wild: Zelda put it in the Korok Forest while I recovered. It took all my strength but eventually I pulled it. What about you?
Age: …
Age: I ran into it and it glowed
Trick!!!! Or treat! :) (or threat, you decide)
one day, Marcus, you are going to throw out your back. When this happens, I will find you, materialize right behind you, and laugh my ass off while calling you a fossil.
have a headcanon: Wild already knows about Age. When the New Champions returned from Age of Calamity, all of them looked weirdly at Wild for several weeks until they finally sucked it up and told him about Age. (Privately, Sidon thinks he likes Wild much better than Age, but would never audibly compare two of his friends!
On the topic of Wild having a memory attack in Ages’ era,
I can only imagine how alarming it must be to see wild do that, especially without having any context to what’s happening.
Like from the outside, a memory attack probably looks pretty concerning.
Like especially if you’re familiar with the concepts like an absence seizure. (It probably looks kinda similar)
like say Mipha (who spends time treating people for injuries) or perhaps Age’s father (who would probably be somewhat trained to look out for that sort of thing bc of knight first aid training or something )
(And tbh, I’m not entirely unconvinced his memory-attack-things aren’t some sort of seizure-adjacent neurological event, related to whatever brain damage caused his amnesia in the first place (regardless if it was caused by the shrine itself, or the injuries that put him in it))
Aaaa There’s so much potential you can explore here!!! This sort of crossover thingy(? I forgot the word) has so many interesting concepts to play around with!
Thoughts?
(Also ps I think you nailed Mipha’s character)
Yeah!! I mean Wild suddenly going still and not reacting to anything is definitely alarming, and I'm sure Mipha can tell something is wrong with him (even if she doesn't know exactly what it is). Maybe she'd even have some ideas on how to help him with them? Make them a little easier somehow? Maybe. She'd try and help him either way I'm sure.
Age's father would be just so concerned by the whole situation anyway, adding memory attacks is just icing on the cake. His son who's not his son but is his son but like x10 traumatized version sometimes get memory attacks or seizures or something. Sure. Why not. His life is already so gosh darn WEIRD.
