Burning Wheel RPG Campaign Excerpt
Julien walked up to Antiphonos, feeling a sense of unease flutter in their stomach. They cleared their throat, determined to stay composed. "Antiphonos, I know you have your doubts about magic, but hear me out. Despite our different backgrounds, we share a common struggle. The ruling class has forsaken both of us, leaving us to scrape by at the bottom of the caste system."
Antiphonos scowled, folding his arms across his chest. "And why should I consider joining your group of heretics?"
Julien took a deep breath, meeting Antiphonos' gaze head-on. "We're not just heretics. We're a group of people who want to create something meaningful, something that can make a real difference in the world. We need people like you, strong and determined, to help us achieve that goal."
Antiphonos let out a disdainful snort. "And why would I want to be part of that?"
Julien held their ground, unflinching. "Because I know that you're sick of being looked down upon, tired of being treated like a second-class citizen. You have dreams and aspirations, just like the rest of us. Together, we can turn those dreams into a reality."
Antiphonos fell silent, his expression unreadable. Julien waited patiently, watching as the other man weighed his options. Finally, Antiphonos spoke. "What exactly would I have to do if I joined your...mages guild?"
Julien grinned, feeling a glimmer of hope. "We need people with your skills and experience, people who have lived through the struggles of the lower castes. You could help us build an order that truly represents the people. We need fighters, people who aren't afraid to stand up for what they believe in, even when the odds are against them."
Antiphonos pondered Julien's words for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Alright. I'll hear you out."
