[♥︎⸝⸝] conteúdo: mingyu × f!reader, fluff, slice of life, relacionamento estabelecido, 0.5k palavrinhas e acho que é só!!

— Você me deu um bolo!

— Me fala do carinha que você dispensou…

══✿══╡°˖✧✿✧˖°╞══✿══
The drive was long. It had been at least half an hour since you were ushered into an unmarked black car, unaware of your destination. All you knew was that your friend had jokingly signed you up for a dating show a few months ago and somehow you ended up being chosen as a contestant. You pulled back the window curtain just enough to catch a glimpse of your surroundings. Nothing was visible except for the city lights fading into the horizon ahead of you as the driver sped towards the airport.
You weren’t the biggest fan of reality tv, so you weren’t even sure which show you’d landed a spot on. Based on the extensive surveys, tiresome evaluations, and necessary travel applications, you could only assume it was some kind of long-winded matchmaking show. You were also instructed to pack for warm weather and a long amount of time, so you knew you were headed somewhere tropical for a few weeks. It’s a welcome change from the frigid September air you think, imagining the feeling of the sun’s rays soaking into your skin.
Once you arrived at the airport, you were escorted towards a smaller terminal for a private flight headed to Kauai. As you boarded the plane, you could feel your heartbeat in your throat as the reality of your situation began to sink in; you can’t back out now.
The plane would’ve felt uncomfortably small if it hadn’t been so luxuriously outfitted. Beige leather seats lined one side of the cabin, each within elbow room of a wooden table, and a darker leather couch occupied the other side of the cabin. Frosted bottles of champagne rested in an ice bucket in the center of the main table, accompanied by a wide selection of hors d’oeuvres. In front of the spread was a letter addressed to you and sealed with wax.
You broke the seal and began to read: “We’re looking forward to hosting you on Aloha After Dark! Once you land in Kauai, you will be escorted to the preshow hotel where you will be met with your personal staff. Tonight is your grand entrance, so dress to impress and get ready to find your match!”
To your surprise, you’re slightly familiar with Aloha After Dark. It’s your friend’s favorite show, so you’ve been forced to watch an episode or two. The show centers around singles who participate in challenges and build connections over 10 weeks in a tropical chateau surrounded by the natural beauty of Kauai, or at least that’s what Google told you.
You help yourself to a glass of champagne, then another, to ease your nerves and capitalize on the effects of the free liquid courage before you land. The plane touched down a few hours later and you were placed into another unmarked black car to journey to the temporary hotel.
Once you arrived, you were shown to your room and introduced to your hair, makeup, and wardrobe stylists for the evening. They explained that they’d only be around for the night and that your appearance would be your responsibility while in the chateau, and you were relieved. Being fussed over is not something that you’re used to and, if you actually ended up taking this show seriously, you’d want someone to love you for who you really are, not some flashy caricature.
After the glam team was done primping you, you hardly recognized yourself in the mirror. They had styled you in a jewel toned outfit that beautifully complimented both your skin tone and eye color. You’ve never looked this put together, but you’re excited that you have all the necessary frills to make an excellent first impression on the other contestants. The sound technicians outfitted you with a microphone while the producer monologued about ignoring the cameras, no matter how many you see. After answering all of your follow-up questions, you were brought back down to the lobby.
Instead of just any black car this time, they helped you into a limousine. The drive wasn’t long at all, but it felt like an eternity as your nerves began to bubble in your stomach. As introverted as you were, you were no stranger to making friends and forming romantic connections, but doing so in front of thousands of cameras was daunting. You wondered what kind of people the other contestants would be and if the casting staff actually took their jobs seriously enough to put someone in there for you. Just as that doubt entered your mind, the limo slowed to a stop.
The chateau sprouted out of the Kauai foliage like a great mountain, ornate and seemingly out of place this deep in the tropics. A manicured garden surrounded the entrance with twin fountains flanking the grand front door. The torchlit path to the door was less than inviting, but you walked along the step stones anyway, careful not to trip in front of the cameras. You were instructed to walk dramatically with your head up so they could flash between your pre-recorded intro clip and your live entrance, so you did as you were told.
The doors opened automatically when you reached the stoop and you took your first steps into the chateau. You knew what to expect, having seen this show in passing, but actually being there was beyond surreal. You walked through the entrance, stopping at each doorway to peek inside and survey the layout before reaching the door to the back garden.
You were met by a different producer who told you to wait for his cue and then walk out into the garden with confidence, and most importantly, to ‘not look surprised’. The weird request barely had time to land before you were shooed through the doorway and into the humid night air. The walk to the garden was covered by a floral canopy and lit with small tea lights along the edges of the pathway. You finally reached the end of the path and turned the corner, as instructed, to find that the rest of the contestants were already coupled up, standing in a line in front of the pool with the host of the show gesturing towards you. You weren’t just a contestant, you were a bombshell.
“The next lei ceremony will be at the end of this week and Y/N will have the chance to steal someone from an existing couple. Pomaika'i, or good luck! I will see you all at the ceremony next week!” The host delivered her line and gave you a smirk before turning on her heels and walking out of the garden.
You were so flustered that you didn’t even get a chance to look at the other contestants before they surrounded you. The introductions and hugs were overwhelmingly quick, but welcoming nonetheless, and you were finally able to adjust to the moment before you saw him.
He was standing towards the back of the crowd, with his hand around the waist of a stunning brunette the moment he locked eyes with you. You would’ve fallen on your knees and praised the sky if you could’ve; he was gorgeous. Almost immediately after meeting his gaze, he made his way through the lingering crowd to introduce himself to you.
“Hi I’m Mingyu, it’s really great to meet you!” he beamed as he pulled you into a polite side hug. His smile was disarmingly gentle compared to his hulking figure, his skin caramelized from spending weeks in paradise and eyes sparkling with excitement.
“It’s great to meet you too!” you manage to reply, trying your best not to sound as dumbstruck as you felt.
“Would you like to go for a chat over by the deck?” Mingyu asked after most of the other contestants had dispersed.
You blink in astonishment at his boldness, but nevertheless, “Sure, I’d love to!”
Mingyu led you over to the deck and motioned for you to sit on one of the sun loungers beside him. Despite the warm welcome you received, you could feel the cold eyes of the other contestants lingering on the two of you, especially the brunette girl from earlier. If looks could kill, she would be charged with first degree murder; and you couldn’t blame her. It wasn’t your intention to stroll in and step on anyone’s toes before connecting with all of your potential options; it just so happened that he was the first one you spoke to.
The conversation flowed effortlessly. You learned things about him that you would never have expected based on his looks, like his love for cooking and music, and he learned just as much about you in return. You and Mingyu talked for what felt like hours before another one of the boys cautiously interrupted and pulled you away. Even when you were making your rounds and chatting to everyone, you caught Mingyu stealing glances at you every chance he could.
The night came to an end before you could chat to everyone, so you took note of who all you needed to speak to tomorrow and began getting ready for bed. Since you were the only person not in a couple, you had a bed to yourself just outside of the main bedroom. The contestants made an effort to ensure you were comfortable before bidding you goodnight and funneling into the bedroom. When the lights went out, all you could think about was Mingyu in bed with someone else in the other room and how that hopefully wouldn’t be the case for long.
The next morning, the contestants beckoned you into the bedroom to say good morning and ask about your plan for the day. You tell them that you’re planning on speaking to the few that you hadn’t the night before, but besides that, you’re going to go with the flow. You head upstairs with the crowd and slip on a swimsuit before brushing your teeth, doing your makeup, and heading outside.
Almost as soon as the sunlight hit your skin, Mingyu appeared at your side with a cup of green tea in his hand. “I didn’t know what you liked, but I figured that tea is harder to mess up than coffee is.” he bumbled, almost nervously, as he handed you the warm mug.
You immediately took a sip and, to your delight, “It’s perfect, thank you! And you guessed right, I actually prefer tea in the morning.”
“Good! I wanted to make sure you weren’t left out since everyone usually makes something for their partners. Seeing as you don’t have one yet, I thought I’d make you something.” he says very matter of factly, but the flirtatious tension was undeniable.
“That’s sweet of you Mingyu, I really appreciate it.” you reply with a smile, matching his playful energy.
He winked at you before heading back off to the kitchen to fetch the iced coffee he had made for the brunette girl, whose name you couldn’t remember. He met her halfway back on his walk towards the chateau, handing her the drink and giving her a peck on the cheek. Out of all the current couples, they seemed to have the most interesting dynamic, and you were eager to understand it.
The girl was one of the few people you didn’t speak to individually the night before, so you asked her if she wanted to chat over by the pool and she agreed. After settling down and sticking your feet in, you learned quite a bit. Her name was Jina, she had been here from the start, and she and Mingyu had been coupled up for the last two weeks after he came in as a bombshell. She came across nice enough, but you could sense that there was some tension between you based on how many times she insisted that her partnership with Mingyu was strong.
After speaking to Jina, you made your rounds to the rest of the contestants and you came to the conclusion that most people were solid in their couples, so stealing someone’s partner wouldn’t be that easy. You spent the rest of the day casually chatting around and trying to build connections and friendships, but you kept thinking back to your conversation with Mingyu from the night before. You couldn’t quite pinpoint what it was about your chat with him, but it certainly occupied most of your headspace, and you needed to speak to him again.
Later that night, you’re finally able to pull Mingyu aside for another chat. You pick a secluded spot inside the chateau, away from the prying eyes of the other contestants, and settle down onto one of the couches. Mingyu follows suit and sits down a little closer to you than you expected him to, making your heart skip a beat.
“So, how’s your first full day so far?” Mingyu starts, eagerly beginning the conversation.
“It’s been great actually, everyone’s been so welcoming and lovely to talk to!” It’s hard to form coherent sentences in his presence, but he doesn’t seem to notice.
He smiled, “Good! That’s how it was for me when I came in too, so I’m glad everyone’s still minding their manners. Do you have your eye on anyone yet?”
You almost choked on your champagne. “Maybe one or two people,” you reveal, looking up to find his brow arched inquisitively, “but I’m keeping my cards close to my chest for now.”
He chuckled, “Ohhh I get it,” sarcasm practically flowing out of him, “Jina’s not around, you can tell the truth.”
Your mouth fell open and you landed a gentle punch on his upper arm, “You’re pretty confident, huh?”
“You have to be confident in here, or someone will beat you to the punch. Pun intended” he added, gently reenacting your actions a few seconds ago.
You couldn’t hold back your laugh this time, “So, what are you saying? You’re worried that I won’t pick you?”
“Nah, I just enjoy spending time with you and we won’t have as many opportunities to talk if you pick someone else.” Even though he was keeping up the air of confidence, Mingyu’s tone softened slightly. You noticed how red the tops of his ears were turning as you felt the warmth of the same sensation on your own cheeks.
“I enjoy spending time with you too.” You reassured, placing your hand a little too close to his on the couch cushion. You quickly change the subject before he notices, “So what’s the deal with you and Jina?”
“Nothing really. I mean, I came in two weeks ago and stole her from the guy she said she was in a friendship couple with, but it’s going nowhere. She’s kind and beautiful, but we don’t have that spark, you know?”
Your eyes widen and you whisper, “That’s not what she told me. After we talked, I was under the impression that you two were practically deciding on a wedding date.”
Mingyu emptied half of his champagne flute onto the floor as he laughed, “With Jina?! I don’t think we’ve spoken more than a few words to each other since the lei ceremony two weeks ago. I think she just wanted me to pick her so she didn’t have to share a bed with the other guy anymore. I’ll pull her for a chat tomorrow and make sure we’re on the same page, but I wanted to make sure you knew that our talks mean more to me than Jina’s.” he concluded, draining what remained of the champagne from his glass.
You opened your mouth to respond as Jina practically materialized in the chateau before either of you knew she was there; it was almost like she could sense it. She asked for a moment alone with Mingyu, so you obliged and offered her your seat on the couch before heading out of the room and back towards the garden.
Before you made it outside, a room that you hadn’t noticed on your initial canvas caught your attention. The door was slightly ajar, allowing a sliver of bright light to spill out into the hallway. You gently pushed the door open, revealing a small room furnished only with a single chair in the center; the confessional booth. You giggle softly to yourself at the absurdity of actually sitting down and filming something, but you close the door and take a seat anyway. After psyching yourself up for a few minutes, you click the record button on the camera, sit back, and take a deep breath.
